Gerhart Mack Days 2021 - October 1st & 2nd
b615rich replied to DavCut's topic in Truck Shows and Events
I know this is the usual weekend, but are you sure it’s on? It does not seem to be posted in the usual event calendars, not even Watts’. Always a great show but seems quiet. Wrote them and still waiting to hear back. -
Sorry. Sold today. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing with the video. Your truck so it’s your vision. Agree you could make a really nice resto rod but with such a great body I’d think just drop in a diesel motor and do the brakes. Mike’s probably right, if you like the body and don’t care about the rest too much it’s way easier to put the body on a late model chassis - Dodge Ram or even a school bus. As for value, gas engines are all over and the mechanical stuff is always out there so not very rare or valuable. Good luck and thanks again for sharing!

Price lowered to $9250. https://harrisburg.craigslist.org/cto/d/grantville-1959-mack-75-tractor/7139385306.html

First 25 serials. Under 1025. But I may be off too. Says 1955-1966 but only 1600 made. Was just a fun fact so probably doesn’t really matter. Most I’ve seen were 1959-1962. Good question. Trivial facts are a part of this hobby!

Well, the price is negotiable. Currently on CL for $9500. Would love to see it with an enthusiast. Thanks ! https://harrisburg.craigslist.org/cto/d/grantville-1959-mack-75-tractor/7139385306.html

Saw one brand new at Bridgeport (CT) Mack in the early 80's had a twin stick with the RR splitter (think R was on the splitter). It was ordered and then the buyer backed out. That place was great looking - cement poured with Mack script, giant bull dogs on the roof corners. I wonder if anyone has pictures.

Acquired another Mack

Those scanias are under rated. They didn't have a lot of power but ran smooth, idled nice, and were easy to maintain. Those centrifugal oil filters were simple and oddly effective. Cool find, never drove an auto but I am sure it is a nice ride . You won't win any drag races but what the heck. -

It only sat for a week. Tried a medium sized hammer but need to get the rims off the hit the side. Not sure wailing on the open rim of the drum is a great idea. Odd it would stick so fast and no salt on the roads. Was pouring when I pulled into town though. -

41Chevy - I tried rocking it but no luck. Really worry about breaking something, I guess it is never to late to be smart for a change. Found a few local guys to try will call tomorrow. Did you make it to Trucktoberfest? -
Maxi Brake stuck on one wheel - need mechanic Harrisburg PA!?

It seems to move pretty freely. When you apply the service brakes it moves all the way forward but shoes don't seem to react. When you release and back off the adjuster it will get almost all the way to the can (maybe an inch to one and a half away from the can. There is nothing showing on the cam, it is in a housing from the adjuster to where the housing mounts to the backer plate (I made that term up but using car breake term - not really a plate but a flange on the end of the axle). Probably need the wheels off and to bang on the drum or heat or? Tried hitting the drum rim and the brake shoes but probably not the right angle. Not sure I want to take the adjuster off. Very limited tools here. . Usually I regret not having a garage to work in, but now just miss tools and own space -
Maddog - I like that old picture. Can you tell a gas engine? Seems a lot of those wreckers were. I always am looking so close I forget to take pictures. That Bethlehem Steel DM was there I guess on loan. He did a nice job. The old AC Gary Mahan brought down was very cool. Always a lot to look at for sure.

It's a 1959 B but the rear is from a 70's? Eaton rears on Reyco. I can't see the cam itself but it seems to have been greased when they did the brakes. When you say turn the S cam where would you grip it? Would the slack adjuster still move if the cam were stuck? -

Thanks for the reply. First, I caged the spring with the tool which pulled the slack adjuster in and when I released the brakes it pulled in even a little more. So by my logic I don't think it's the can or an air issue (?). -
Another great Trucktoberfest today at the Mack Historical Museum. Always great to see the trucks at the museum and the many beautiful examples brought by the dedicated folks in our hobby.

Moving from NY to PA so have to find new local mechanic. My need ended up being sooner than I thought. Drove 4 hours down two weeks ago - truck ran and drove great! Getting ready for Trucktoberfest this week I realized one maxi is stuck on. Caged the spring, slack adjuster seemed to move fine. Even backed the adjuster off a little, very little travel available as brakes are almost brand new. Tried hitting shoes but think they might be stuck on the drums or for some other reason are not pulling back together (springs are new and look fine). I don't the cam is spun because there is so much lining left. I am working in a hotel lot with only basic tools til I move so I'm thinking the next step is road service. Anyone know anyone good near Harrisburg PA or have any ideas? I saw a place called "Triple K"?

I researched this pretty well and went with Gulfway. Unlike the others, you can park outside and trailer whatever personal trailer you want with no annual mileage limit. Pleasant and efficient folks to deal with. -
One massive load bearing unit.
