  1. Gotcha! I will maybe pick up something and give it a try. I just changed fluid in tranny and rear ends about a week ago so should be good. Amsoil 80w-90. The noise is probably mostly from me shifting too soon and getting below the 1200 rpm mark. This Mack 6 speed is a nice transmission and dwell time between shifts isn’t as long as I was always led to believe. Besides my TDI Jetta, I mostly shift everything slow like a grain truck anyways. Even the NV5600 in my Dodge doesn’t like to be rushed.
  2. I noticed plenty of gear rollover noise when under load at a low rpm and would maybe try to muffle that a bit. What do people put on the shifter sticks to quiet down the trans? Pipe foam or rubber hose or something similar?
  3. Yea I asked my local Mack dealer and I think he said the oem is like $375 and still available. It’s a lot of money but I will probably just bite the bullet and pick one up after fall work. On a side note I hauled with it for the first time today. Took 2 loads of beans into the elevator. Neither were full loads but it pulled well and has surprisingly good power. I go through a pretty healthy valley and only had to downshift into 4th gear. I crested the hill at 1200rpm and just let it eat.
  4. Congrats of both of the new additions! That is a nice looking truck.
  5. Thank you! Yea I kind of wanted it to appear somewhat original. I was going to use a lighter color that would match the vinyl but figured the slightly darker color would show dirt less. Plus it matches the brown interior cab color. Next interior project will be a new OEM floormat as mine is wore through on the driver side. That will probably be an after harvest project.
  6. My driver seat bottom was in poor shape so I removed it a couple weeks ago. I went ahead and pulled all the staples holding the cover onto the wood and inspected the foam, It was still in pretty good shape so that was good for reuse. I took everything including some original tan vinyl to the local upholstery shop. I choose some high wear tweed style fabric for the top and kept the original vinyl for the sides. It all turned out nice and should last many years.
  7. Nice looking truck!
  8. I'll have to pull it off this weekend and take a closer look. I was just hoping to confirm what I have beforehand and maybe get hose and possibly fittings on order. I managed to finish changing fluid in rear axles last night. Its getting closer to being ready for work.
  9. The other end shows either 9 or 6.
  10. The fitting shows DOT 1210
  11. It looks like AN uses the -8, -10, etc sizes? It was mentioned that this is SAE so would that be the more common 3/8, 5/16, etc measurements?
  12. Any idea what size this hose would be?
  13. Good information! I will probably stick with the SAE 100R5 Are those original ends pushed on just like a normal barb? I read somewhere that they could be kind of screwed on reverse threads but that might have been something else.
  14. I understand there are probably a few options these days for a replacement such a plain rubber, etc but I would like to keep it somewhat original looking if possible. Would the PTFE like in this link be the correct stuff? https://hotrodfuelhose.com/products/ptfe-lined-black-silver-nylon-braided-hose-an6-an8-an10
  15. My fuel line from the lift pump to the filter is leaking. Is this something still available from the dealer or do people just have them made? Would these be considered AN fittings? Iv browsed the net a bit and see kits to make these style. Are these ends crimped or just pushed on?
  16. I purchased it about 5 years ago from a member of this forum.
  17. I put 80w-90 fully synthetic in the trans and will do the same in the rears.
  18. Changed transmission lube today. Old fluid looked good and magnet was fairly clean so nothing alarming. Expensive Amsoil hooked me again. Haha
  19. Replaced the heater cover as the original had a piece broken off the corner. New decal too.
  20. That's good to know that the cores are available. When looking up from the bottom side I could see some green corrosion toward the tope of the core just under the water tank. I guess it will be the first to let me know when it gives up.
  21. Worked on the Mack this weekend. The coolant flanges on the radiator were leaking so I removed them along with the other 2 block off plates. I blasted and painted the pieces, added new gaskets and stainless hardware. I was a little disappointed with my local Mack dealer as I had to order 10 of the top smaller gaskets when I only needed 2. Apparently they are against having stock of these, Oh well. I replaced the coolant filter and that was quite a chore to removed but I finally got it. Filled with new coolant and it should be in good shape for the next many years.
  22. I was finally able to get one. New part number lists it as a solenoid.
  23. Thanks for the photos. I know what you mean about machines looking bigger when in a shed. I have 2 D7’s and the one in the shed seems twice as big. A D9 is no joke, Iv watched a D8 crawl past thinking that was a hefty piece of iron then a D9 follows and I’m always wowed by just how big they are. Cool stuff. Here is a photo of my Challenger next to my D2.
  24. I just looked and you are correct. I didn’t see that tucked up under the dial. Nevertheless mine reads 4404 hrs whatever that means I guess.
  25. My 79 R686ST was only used to pull a lowboy. Its original and has 118,000 miles and 4400hrs.
