  1. Interesting,Matt! I guess I never gave it much thought. Thanks for clearing that up
  2. Thanks,Mike..........................Its all starting to come back to me now!
  3. Max Grabowski started what is now GMC.Guess one of his younger realitives knew who made REAL trucks!
  4. I had an F715ST spec sheet from '62 (first year of the F),and an option listed was "air ride steer axle suspension"! Later spec sheets revealed,it maybe didn't go over too well. Petercar bragged about the offering on their 362 in like '86-7. I said,"Hell,MACK offered that in '62,where where you then,Peterbilt"? Was not aware of it on the H model. But,like the aftermarket kits available now,(Donvel) I'm sure some fabricator out there said,"why couldn't you have an air-ride steer axle"?
  5. Love those easy fixes! Sometimes it just takes us awhile to figger 'em out! No biggie!
  6. The overdrive gear in my T2070 was .60 : 1.With 5.55 rears, 2100 rpms,11R22.5 rubber,I still topped out at 72mph. I believe the double-over quads were real close to that (.60+or-).Not impossible, for sure! Al
  7. Thats where I seen 'em! Thanks,James! Also a pair of green single axle B-67's at Macungie a few years back. I think Calvin Cochran (?) from Indiana had both of his B-61 sleeper cabs outfitted with different radiators. One had the larger alum tanked radiator & the other had the cast iron one, correct?
  8. Gonna be tough to follow Brad but here goes... Another picture of Plote Excavating # 63.Mike Dhamer drove this one.You might say he's kind of a legend around here (in his own mind!) Just glad he and his wife, took tons of pictures over the years of everything he has driven. Al
  9. Welcome, Mark! Bring your hardhat,it gets tough in here sometimes!
  10. The other one that I seen at the boneyard, had more of an RB looking nose on it (just the front 2 feet or so).You can see the fiberglass starting to crack on this "conversion".My guess is it too,is Cummins powered. The extra length was needed to house the 855 cubes. You guys can't see it from there, but I keep kicking myself for not getting a photo of that other one I seen! It was at my guess, around a '68 or so,had a triplex, underslung camelback susp, and the nicest original Bostrum T-Bar & matching rider seat I've ever seen in a truck that old.It even had a 23 channel CB in it with twin truckers antennnas! I know some folks were pulling their hair out over the 711 at that time.Maybe this was a way to keep the truck, just do away with the troublesome motor. Why a heavy Cummins,I don't know?
  11. Bill Bedell captured this picture of a modified R-600 similiar to one I seen at a bone yard in Wisconsin,a few years back. The one I looked at had a NH-220 installed by Cummins in it.They had actually done a nice job on that conversion. This one looks not as nice, but still interesting.
  12. Thats true,Jim.I wasn't thinking about that.I have seen 'em on a B-67 ............Al
  13. Thanks for saving them, steelman. At least there not on their way to being chinese rebar!
  14. I had to drill and tap the wheel on my KW.Took about an extra hour.Well worth it.Soaked the hub & steering shaft with PB Blaster and used my regular steering wheel puller. No extra breaks in the plastic! Used a thin wall socket as well,to get the nut off of it.
  15. Loose the square headlights and the garbage can lid hubcaps! Then we'll say,"thats a sharp R model wrecker"! But,to each his own.If thats what they like,so be it!
  16. I have a couple of the Higgins Hendricksons too... I was told by someone who called Higgins, that the newer Hendrickson was sold to George Young and painted black. So the last 2 pictures are actually the same truck.
  17. That almost looks like a B-615SX up front,but I don't see any V8 emblems.What else could it be? Anyway,cool picture!
  18. That looks like a solid truck! Congrats!
  19. Here is a stunning restoration of a Hendrickson done by Scott Moore.. Even makes use of modern Hendrickson air ride suspension (installed by Joe Keeley).Classic look with a nice ride!
  20. Yes,the IH Comfo-Vision cab was used on everything from FWD's to Oshkosh's,Sicards,Clines,Diamond T's,you name it.There was a few variations, and they were not all just a bolt on replacement,as floor boards, cab back panels, door handles, vents, were different in some makes use of the cab.The years they were produced also shows the differences. That cab started in the early '50's on the IH L-series and went as late as '72 on the IH M-series.
  21. Nice clean "fleet spec" tractor.Clean is just as good as "chromed out" to me! (OK,maybe some aluminum Budds on the front, chrome hubcaps!)
  22. Thanks,Brad for picking up the slack! ........Al
  23. Here is one from our neck of the woods... This truck had an E9 that was putting out over 800hp on the dyno.It had a Holset turbo on it and was tweaked by our local MACK dealer's injection shop.Wasn't real good on fuel, but it would run! Sadly, the owner Alan Smith passed away. Then right after his daughter dropped the insurance, the shop it was parked in burned and this $120,000 restoration was toast! Don't ask me why she decided to drop the insurance,I don't know?
