  1. Yes,that is Jim Drake.I know he was asking like 12K for it at one time.
  2. Wow! Nice pics from Mary's place. She was a legend!
  3. Chicago area R model of the day goes to..... Bob Gould of Harvard,Ill. This one nice RS600.He bought it new,and still runs it.
  4. There was a guy in our neck of the woods that bought a powered glider back in the late '80's.When the glider was decked for transport (facing the rear),MACK had spun the turn signals around and made them functional, for the trip. When the glider was completed, they forgot about the red to the rear/amber to the front rule, and the guy got pulled over for not having the turn signals facing the right way!
  5. They didn't start using the S-series I H cab until the introduction of the VT-100 in the late '80's.They had stopped building their H- series trucks & tractors in the early '80's as far as I can tell. The VT-100 was their re-entry into the class 8 field. Hendrickson eventually sold their truck division to Valley Truck Parts of Grand Rapids,Mich. (can't remember the year). They renamed it HME (Hendrickson Mobile Equipment), and continued building and selling HME trucks until the late '90's.They currently still manufacture fire trucks, something the old Hendrickson Manufacturing always did.
  6. Funny you should mention that,BULLHUSK.A buddy of mine just bought the Cooper-Jarret truck off of e-bay! I don't remember them as a kid.I do remember the Dodge/Fruehauf Michigan Train set-up though!
  7. Heres a picture of a "Western Contractor" RD model that was built to fill the void left by the RS "Value-Liner" chassis.Should have looked deeper into one of these ,as our specs in Illinois are so weight sensitive. They used more aluminum components in them than your standard RD.My salesman was having a stroke the way it was, after awhile he just turned the data book around to me and said,"hell, you know what you want,YOU order it!" I thought I should have made the commission on that sale!
  8. You're right,Mike, all the Hendricksons in your pictures are owned by Dan Pegram. The cabover was resurrected by Buck Buchanan then later sold to Dan.As I stated in the first post,Dan recentley added Buck's '48 to his collection too.The cabover was extremely rare. That model used Peterbilt doors on it! The first generation Hendrickson cabovers used a modified IH CO-190-220 cab(originally a Diamond T cab)!
  9. Most of the Detroit powered ones had 6-71's in them,Ike.Although, they would build you one with a 12V if you wanted it!
  10. Boy,that H is really lookin' good! Great job!
  11. OK,thanks James.I don't think that (one in Wisc.) Dundee S & G is related.Meyer bought the old Dundee S & G in the '70's. Glad you like 'em,Mike. They were second only to MACK in Chicago & the midwest area for years. They were definetly a custom-built truck. If you could dream it,they would build it.They had a service department that unmatched (from what I was told by oldtimers). There was the service manager,Oscar, they say was there to make sure your truck (no matter the make) was modified to your liking. You could watch your truck being built on the assembly line, too.
  12. Welcome,Chuck..........put yer boots on,it gets deep in here !!!!!!!
  13. Here's some more "Hanks"...
  14. Here's your Chicago area R model of the day Mike Dhamer's Value -Liner
  15. They tell me B models were cold in the winter......try a 4070B with a 318 Driptroit.....BURRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! Fun truck to learn on,though. As long as it wasn't too cold outside!! This is what the poor girl looks like now.Too far gone for me to fix it.They left the damn window open on it for who knows how many years!
  16. Ha Ha!! I used to say that when we'd see somebody burning a bunch of stumps or something making a lot of smoke! "Must be another MACK taking off from the stoplight/sign"
  17. The bastards!!! Somebody knew about the stuff ahead of time. Thats not just a random robbery. To hand pick those type of parts and leave the rest? Sorry for your loss,Paul. That is a bummer.Hope they catch the bastards!!
  18. Yeah,he put the old truck in there to see if he could get some response, since it was so rare.Dan had expressed interest in the past (and bought the extremley rare cabover from Buck),so they struck a deal. They were buds,so it was good mutual deal! It went to a good home.
  19. Yes,I remember OK.When I was a kid, they were hauling freight. What color(s) were the Crystal Lake trucks,James? I work with 1 of the nephews from Crystal Lake.He doesn't talk too much about the "good old days"!. I didn't notice much more than the MACK's either, growing up! Do you remember Sunrise from Crystal Lake at all,or Terra Cotta?
  20. Ahh! Thought I seen that truck before (the R model).Make frequent trips up that way, goin' to da U.P.,don't ya know? Know a GREAT fabricator up in Oshkosh if you need one!
