  1. That horn button was on the truck when I found it,Bob! So many little items like that were in such nice shape when I bought the thing, that influnced me to re-do that truck. The headliner just needed some 409 and a rag.It too ,cleaned up very nice! I was lucky to find so many things still intact. The original owners wife even commented"wow, where did you find the nice headliner?".I told her it was the same one that was in the truck since day 1!
  2. That is a cool trailer,Rob.Way too good for you !!!!!! Gov. Liquidations has alot of old ARMY trailers like that quite often. Then again too,at least a thousand miles from home!!
  3. Nice find,Mike.Like the budds & center mount air horn.Like you said, stuff you didn't see around the midwest alot.Looks more like a "western" spec truck, you know? Of course Iowa is west of Illinois!
  4. I agree,Rob.I've seen an air cleaner "kinked" at the top because of the weight of the bonnet(even though its not that much), but stick it up in the air a little bit, and the force of the wind against it can tweak it to the rear a little bit..Then other guys have no problems! I don't know if its the original production air cleaners vs. newer reproduction ones or what?
  5. Like the story of the CF truck.Even they couldn't resist the bulldog! They even had some CH's when they closed the doors.
  6. That U has the optional dash we were talking about in another thread, recently.
  7. You guys know that while we were talking about these guage panels, somebody with no inkling of what these are,is tossing 4 or 5 of them (N.O.S.) into a dumpster at some old family owned Mack dealership that was just bought by a 5 or 6 dealer owned conglomorate, that wants nothing to do with anything pre-Volvo!!! BLASPHOMY!! But, it's happening!!!
  8. Vinny, Keep on asking for U model stuff. Its perfectly normal for someone in your condition. You've been bitten by the bug,and its your mission to collect everything "U". Keep on asking for pictures and info,at least one of us at a time, will try to come up with something!
  9. Vinny, yeah they probably left the country 5 years ago and are now Chinese rebar! Sorry!!
  10. That '69 that belonged to my first boss, had the speedo & tach in the usual places, the center panel had the pyrometer and other gauges like fuel pressure & other component temps, etc..It's been a few years since I've seen the old truck. It finished up life around the Chicagoland area as a wrecker. It has since been sold to a guy in Guetamala (?) or somewhere like that.
  11. Thanks for posting those photos,Mike. When we talked about that truck on the phone,I had a hard time imagining the set-up.That certainly is a rare one.Tough to float the gears in on that one,I bet! And thanks Green Dash for posting the brochure link. You just can't get this kind of knowledge anywhere else but BMT,can you? Makes me want to turn my C-8000 FORD into an N,even if its only cosmetically!
  12. I met Bob in '85 while I was stationed @ Ft. Lewis,Wa. He let me wander around his yard and take pictures of all the treasures there. He and his wife were very nice people. He showed me a copy of the Wheels of Time. I joined The ATHS at that time and have been a member ever since.I met up with him again at Milwaukee in '93. Truly an icon in the antique truck and MACK world.R.I.P. Bob
  13. One of my mentors had the angled dash panel in his '69 R 711ST.I remember at the far right was the pyrometer.I wanted one for the BCR.Found one in a parts truck. But when I climbed in the cab,I found that somebody had broken the panel(plastic) along with any of the gauges still left in the truck.Dammit!Auto Meter does make angled rings for standard gauges.I bought a set and I will let you guys know how they look.
  14. Dan, I see that they mounted the oil filter on the left outside & the emblem on the right side.Different than the rest of 'em.But at least they put it somewhere on the truck! Interesting! Thanks for including the pictures and story. Al
  15. Looks like an RD fuel tank.Is it an RD?
  16. Nice truck! Looks straight, clean, complete! I like the door panels,a Mack option at the time! Nice!
  17. Heres one that was on with Pirkle, back in the day! And one that belonged to a Manders from the Twin City area of Minnesota.Must be a relation of Sid's. Funky, yet functional, describes these 2 LJ's Thanks to Bill Bedell for snapping these 2 pics!
  18. I hear ya,Ben. Unfortunatley,we just can't save them all! I think of the time there was a EH fuel truck in a gravel pit by my house when I was a kid.It was on its side already,so we took every MACK emblem off of it.Good thing. The next week it was cut up! I missed the 3 dumpsters of parts, manuals, and general trucking memoriabilia that was thrown out by the 1st owner of my BCR,and that makes me cry,Ben. in the words of Slick Willie,"I feel your pain" Al
