  1. Yes,thankfully.We don't always get that lucky!
  2. They're my favorite!
  3. Mike,I remember going to Florida in '74 and there was a steel hauling outfit that was running a bunch of green sleeper cabs like that.Do you know the history of that truck?
  4. Mike you can now prove to the county that "Mike Harbison is going green"Gotta be some kind of a grant or federal gimme for that, wouldn't ya think!.
  5. I hear you ,Rob.That's everywhere.Someone will always be there to say,"thats not original",or something similiar. But like you said, you just tune that stuff out and proceed with the fun to be had! This IS a great forum and I appreciate all the information that most put on it.It's very helpful Thank you!
  6. Or is it just because it has a 5 and "tree" in it .....I know,10,000 comedians out of work and thats all you can come up with!
  7. I belong to the ATHS (+2 chapters),ATCA,& OTT.They are all businesses, that have to maitain a level of income to survive. When there was just a handful of people in the hobby, things were probably not as difficult to deal with. 99% of the people I deal with are great and we have the same common thread in all of us.WE LIKE OLD TRUCKS! Every now & then you get some downer that just isn't happy with his/her life, and they lose focus about what these groups are all about. Yes,I agree about "cliques".There are cliques everywhere and that will probably never change. But,the common item here is the love for old trucks & trucking history and the groups that fuel & support these hobbies. You are not going to find any organization without fault. They try,but they can't please everyone! This is America (for now!),and we are still free to pick and choose our affiliation with any organization we wish. I love that freedom and I love old trucks, any organization that does so,I support! .........Al Rhino........Good Day!!! (my 2.9 cents)
  8. GREAT! Keep those young guys involved! My son started out following me around, but got into other hobbies.I didn't wan't to push him into my hobby, that takes the fun out of it.Who knows, maybe he'll come back at some time,to the trucks? Hope so! Again, good for you for caring enough to find the history on the old iron around you!
  9. I remember them selling off donated trucks in the past,Trent. But that was so they would no longer have to pay rent to the various museums or storage facilities, that house the trucks. That "rental fee" was a sticking point to a lot of members. The ATHS does not own a truck museum of its own. They do have plans to expand the KC,Mo. headquarters to include room for a few trucks. But I hear ya,anytime there is descention in the ranks, you can overthrow the current bunch in the next election! But you have to VOTE! I am not a fan of politics,I am a fan of old trucks! Anytime I feel that the politics is overunning the old trucks "mission",I get a little angry. We have too much politics in our daily life to let it screw up our hobby! ..........My 2 cents!
  10. The very same one, David! Someday his " teflon" suit, too will wear out!
  11. Cool pictures of some good 'ol Bulldogs! Thanks to Tim for starting this thread! You eastern guys always had some "beefy" Bulldogs for your construction projects. Not that ours wern't,we just couldn't put those kinds of loads on,without some kind of consequences!(although we did,a time or two) Just think what our highways, streets, housing, and general infrastructure would be like if the Bulldog was a lesser truck? Love the stories about guys like Mr. Julian and so many like him that helped build this great country! My hard hat is off to them all!
  12. I heard about those early loaders being a little light in the behind, bet that was a pucker-up moment!
  13. Rob, this is just in the past 3-4 years or so! He had not been forced out due to O'Hare expansion, but more by politicians wanting established large property/low tax rate businesses "out of there" so that higher tax paying hotels, etc. could be built. He was not heavily compensated for his land. What he recieved for it most likely went to the lawyers. He just wanted to stay there. When they told him of their plan of revelopment,he said "fine,I'll redevelop the property to your specifications".They said,"No we already have a developer in mind". To this day nothing bigger than a self-serve gas station sits on the property that once housed one of the biggest contruction material hauling fleets,Chicago will ever have had, at it's service! DAMN SHAME!!!!
  14. Hey Jim,yeah I remember the 10 wheelers (or in Ill. we refer to them as 6 wheelers,it's a Chicago thing!).The B-42's had hyd brakes on them(not good in stop and go traffic).Yeah once and a while Mr. Eugene "Gene" Celli would by a brand X tractor, I think to prove a point to that manufacturer! Yes,that is Eugene in the picture, he owned Celli Trucking Co..Now the CTC emblem stands for Celli Truck Center. They are located on Mannheim Rd,just north of North Ave. in Melrose Park, now.Eminent Domain forced them from their near 50 year home in Schiller Park,Ill.(by O'Hare Int'l Airport).Gene told me he(and his father,Carlo) started using that color combo after WWII.A company that had gone out of business had the same colors and he liked them.he figured it they weren't using them ,he would! Yes he had several CH's.That one on the wall was an owner/operator,Sam Romano's truck. He had several o/o's leased on in the dump div. Most had Macks. Why wouldn't you?He had a staff of mechanics well versed in the Bulldog. An o/o could park his truck at Celli's yard at night, write up what was wrong with it.When he showed up in the a.m.,his truck would be ready for another days work! Most of Celli's CH were of the axle set forward type.
  15. LOOKIN' GOOD! Feel bad for the little Toyota that runs into that! Aw...no I don't!
  16. Seen that at an ATHS chapter meeting in the mid '90's! I think the title was "The Moving of the Edaville Railroad" If I'm not mistaken.I think it was put out by the same outfit that did the ATCA show videos back then. Its a good one.Won an Oscar at my house!
  17. Good one,Rob!!
  18. Those day cab F model shells were there, when I was 10,Trent! They had gotten a deal on them and were converting old rusted out F sleeper cabs to day cabs. There was one particular unit that pulled a fuel tanker from the city out to Wauconda.Had the day cab on it,but the stack and breather tube were 30" inches behind the cab yet.Looked a little hokey! Tom just went back down to Greco's a couple of weeks ago.Everything is pretty much right where it was last time we were there! C-615 & all.
  19. Nice pictures Gregg The Clariben hood brochure I have has many makes and models listed. Those big chrome grilles do look like a W900! That was an option, made by Clariben.I think the brochure said it was like $265.00 upgrade if you wanted it!Thanks for snapping the pictures and posting them. Al
  20. I always hear they were hot in the summer & cold in the winter. An old fleet owner around here used to say,"It may have a different driver in it, but those Mack's just keep coming back!"
  21. You probably talked to Jim (service mgr.).He let me and Tom B. look through a container full of stuff. That day cab F-model N.O.S. shell was in there along with some of the hoods.Nothing real nice, but it was worth a look.Tom made an offer on the wrecker and Jim laughed at him.He sold me an air ride cut off for a decent price,I thought.Yeah, I bet those letters went pretty fast,Trent!
  22. Not that I know of,Paul. One of the 2 trucks has probably never been out of Illinois. The other one has but only 2 or 3 states away! 1 is met.brown, the other is green. Al
  23. A buddy of mine had some made up.He said the sticker guy that made them up was pretty nervous about doing so.Trademarks & all!
  24. Yes sir.Superdog put that in the newsletter once,so thats what I titled the pic!
  25. Jim,it's called Dark Jade Green Metallic-A DuPont fleet color
