Free to good home.Get it before the garbage man does.Tried selling it before here.Hardly any response.Will not refuse a 24 pack of Coors Banquet,in a fair trade.It is used,has sat outside for the last year,needs work.Has cut out for single exhaust on right front corner.Still intact.Let me know by 3/16/12 or it will leave in the back of an Granite, DM,MR or LE garbage truck,if it's lucky!! I took a black Value-Liner steering wheel,v'd out all the cracks.The guy that did the body/paint work on my truck,used a plastic bumper filler on the v'd out cracks.I then scuffed the whole wheel and he shot it with white Imron.I have noticed some fine cracks,but not in the areas that we repaired .That was done in 2005 and it still looks great today! Hope this helps.

  6. I had pretty good luck with our local Mack dealer at the time I was restoring mine (2004).The heater box cover was still available,which was really the only broken part in my cab! I have seen an aluminum door on an older Eastern R (must have been a R-6??LST).Looked like a nightmare-cracks everywhere! I left most of my original guages in the truck as the S-W's were all working.I repainted the matte black finish on the panel,and used Iowa 80 chrome trim rings to cover up the cleaned but pitted guage bezels.Found one of those rare offset guage panels,but they were plastic, and the elements and kids took their toll on them. I agree, to replace that cab with the newer (late '73-up) one ,would be blasphomy!! Good luck on your search.

As with many others, the 50's & 60's Macks are my favorites as far as style goes.However, My '79 R612ST and '90 RD690S were very dependable trucks to earn a living with.I didn't get rich running those trucks (who does in this business),but at the same time,I made a decent living and sold those trucks for good money after I was done with them. My MACKs were not the reason I got out of the business.Year after year,my accountant would ask me "thats all you spent on maintainance and repairs?". The '90 now has almost a million on it (sold it with 572,000 on the clock) still has the original internals in it.

  16. I would think he does.I know he brought that Shell calender picture to one of our meetings, a while back. He does have an extensive photo collection of work he has done.

  18. Nice pictures of Bob Eckstein's Phantom 309,Mark. I took the pictures of what was left of it at Macungie,Pa.,in about 2003 or 4.Some guy from N.J. was selling the bunk,hood and other misc. parts.If I would have had a pick up, that stuff would have returned to Ill. I will have to dig up the pictures.The guy who painted that truck for Bobby, is in our local ATHS chapter.His name is Rich Johnson from Freeport,Ill..Trucks he painted and lettered, were featured in OVERDRIVE many times throughout the 70's and 80's.Bob was leased to the Viking Division (flatbed) of Spector Freight out of Chicago.

Trent, That truck was purchased new by the late "Lucky Bob" Amato.He was leased to Terra Cotta with that truck until his death.George Koske then bought it had the cab reskinned and repainted, and ran for Tonyan Bros until parking it.Last rumor I heard was he wanted $30,000 for it. It was originally White with red stripes.It has a 400 hp. Mack V-8 with a 6- speed (early E-9 motor-Maxidyne high torque rise version).

Trent, Replacing the roof panel is an ordeal from what I've been told.But one you'll be glad you did,once your done with it.The guy that painted my truck says he'd rather replace a roof, than to try and straighten/repair it.He also warns against Por-15.It's a good product but not to be used before final painting is done,unless its far away from the sheet metal to be painted.He experianced this first hand while painting a beautiful vintage Dodge wagon for a customer.The guy had painted his inner fenders with POR-15.When the painter went to shoot the outer fenders,the paint ribboned as if somebody poured brake fluid on it.It was the fumes coming off of the POR-15 that screwed the paint up.The customer had to take the inner fenders out, then painter then was able to repaint the outers with no problem.I guess its just the volotility of the POR-15 that messed the paint up.Just a hint, by no means am I saying POR-15 is a bad product,it just has to be handled with some thought. Thanks for sharing the Fruehauf brocure.I own a 40's era Fruehauf short lowboy that I pull with my BCR.It was built for the Army Corps of Engineers as a pull trailer.Somewhere along the line somebody pulled out the dolly and replaced it with a kingpin.Although mine wasn't in your brochure,it has a lot of the same features as their civilian models shown.Thanks again.

Thanks HK for the info.I measured the housings and the donor camelback rears,but wasn't sure.Without the carriers out of the donor cutoff,I thought something could be off.The transverse tourque rod brackets bolt to the back of the carrier housings,I believe (around where the through shaft would come out of the front one).I got all of that stuff with it,so hopefully it will convert with little problems(yeah right).It'll be done just down the road from you in Oshkosh.Thanks again
