    A classic.I went into the ARRRRRRMY shortly after that movie came out. You can imagine how many of us recited those lines during basic! We did get extra push-ups & "DO YOU THINK YOU'RE FUNNY?" from the drill sergeants (a lot). Al

    Hope they do rescind it. Not to point fingers,but I see more diesel pickups putting out more smoke than most of the big trucks that actually contribute to the economy of this country. I would venture to say most tree huggers see the "light" trucks smoking,in their travels. My 02 cents. Al

    I would agree the introduction of the ENDT676,probably meant goodbye for the derated V-8. Must be a misprint in C.I.D. department though. They have as 672 cubes. Should read 865 ( ?). Al

    Nice fuel prices for sure,Dave! If I recall,Freightliner could run a lower doghouse when the truck was equipped with the 1676. Which played hell when the re-power came along! I was never a V-8 guy myself. It seemed they were alll good runners until the inevitable happened. I still think the 8V71 was about the cheapest to rebuild and probably the most reliable of the V-8's. Those big V's could pass everything on the road,but I passed them at the repair shop with my little 6! Al

    Guess the legal community has run out of reasons for frivolous law suits,so they're playing the "sex card" now. Disgusting! I would like to file a suit in federal court about the sexual abuse me and millions of other taxpayers have suffered,at the hands of the last administration. Al

    Mackey,was the R 700 on that brochure an Artim broker? I always thought it could have been. I remember seeing several day cabs hauling steel around Chicago back in the late '70's early '80's. Some companies that come to mind: Umthun,CW,CRST,Rediehs,Chief,all the big freight outfits with their "special commodities" divisions, and of course Artim. USS was running 3 shifts and pumping out steel like hell wouldn't have it! Al

    Dave, I think that ill-fated V-8 was the 1676 340hp. I read about in OVERDRIVE years ago. I forgot what the major malfunction was,but it was enough to make them replace it with the engine of the customers choice. The 1693 was a good motor,for sure. I remember a small fleet from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,had some pretty nicely eguipped Freightliners with 1693TA's in 'em. Their single stacks were all on the left side. Also not to get way off thread here,one BMT member from Washington state is selling his 8V 92 powered Super-Liner dump on the truckpaper.com. Al
