  1. Who knows,Brian? They bought Thielen's and 51% of Super-Mix now! Can you say "Monopoly"?
  2. I know before the buyout,Ozinga would call MEYER for trucks on a busy day!
  3. He's just getting the Ski-Doo ready!
  4. Had a '90 RD with a EM-6 300L/2070 in it.Had 5.55 rears in it because the 2050,2060,2070,&2080 all had a .60:1 OD in them. Had a 70mph top end with the 5.55's in it,and was a sweetheart off the road with a 14.16 crawler in it! Ordered it with the 2060 in it,but it wasn't low enough to get restarted in soft ground. My local MACK garage changed it to a 2070 for me,and that was the answer.
  5. Don't hang around too long at a trucking outfit's yard......they're liable to put you to work!
  6. I have some brackets from a Value-Liner in my trailer.I'll check and let you know.
  7. I seen it many times back in the day and you always had it looking sharp! Was a favorite truck of mine at the time! What were the specs? Had dual full curve stacks,as I recall.
  8. Ranchhopper, did the '71 RS700L you drove in the '80's,belong to Ed Beltz Excavating?
  9. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PRIME A TURBO (through the top oil feed, before re-attaching the line) UPON INSTALLING IT WITH FRESH ENGINE OIL,PRIOR TO STARTING IT! At least that's what I was always told and have done.Says so in TS442. Sorry, forgot to mention it. Al
  10. Wondering too! Hope all is well Mark. Al
  11. Passed it leaving Auburn,In. ATHS convention in 2005. Nice truck. I will have to come out there and visit it and the rest of the "old iron" you guys have in the museum! Al
  12. I have an END673D in the BCR that had a Schwitzer turbo installed on it by the previous owner. It ran fine but in pulling off the intake side elbow,I could see the fins were pretty beat up.Bearings didn't seem too bad (just checked out the shaft for movement),although you could see some oil seepage.Called our local fuel inj./turbo shop.He called Schwitzer. The people he gave my numbers to,said their records don't go that far back! My local MACK dealer suggested one off of a 237 (ENDT675). Had to do some minor exhaust reconfiguring, but it runs great. If it were to go,it would be an easier find than the old Schwitzer,The old turbo did have a cooler sound to it,though! I understand completely, what you're thinking about-RELIABILTY!
  13. Nice, straight, survivor! By the way,John Yazel had Sunrise Cartage of Crystal Lake for many years.
  14. Brad, I always liked the quick-coupler coolant lines on their trucks. A mechanic there told me they would plug all the trucks into a series of piping at islands, and a huge tank of warm coolant inside the shop, would circulate through the trucks all night. The trucks could leave after air was built up. Harry did not want the guys starting the trucks, then coming back in for coffee, while the trucks warmed up. Understood.
  15. There's probably a bunch of different ways around it. I wanted to use an air shift 6 speed knob (which was used first on the 2070),but was told by the service manager that the stick on mine was metric and so were the airlines. Too much to mess with for me,I guess. Al
  16. Weasel, that R is actually a BCR! Jake, what I want to know is how you got the BCR through that low overhead garage door? LOL! (I really know how you did it!) Congrats(?) on the Packard sale. Al
  17. Roadway used the HELL out of the hub piloted WHD-8 wheel system. I had it on my '90 RD,on the rears only-had ball seat 10 hole on the front.Great wheels until an inexperienced tire jockey forgot to tighten the nuts to the required torque. A set of duals loosened up and beat the hell out of a hub. I did like them, though. 8 nuts and you had both wheels and the outboard brake drum off. 10 hole hub-piloted (unimount) came out shortly afterwards, and pretty much became the industry standard.
  18. Not that I know of. I had the "golf club" looking plastic shift knob on my '90 RD w/T2070A trans. I used an old Roadway brand sparkle shift knob by popping off the plastic logo insert, removing the metric nut from the top of the stick.I then welded the nut to the bottom of a coupler (used for shift lever extensions),I was then able to thread a short shift lever extension into the coupler and screw the standard threaded shift knob on to the extension. I had to drill a hole in the insert so the coupler would fit through it and not look to tacky. Hope this helps. Al
  19. C-A-T= Can't Afford This!
  20. That 1 was probably re-powered with a 673 and spent a productive life hauling freight!
  21. Nice truck,Keith. So many of those still around here also. Everyone knows harvest is Loadstar season. That's when most of the "old timers" are seen.
  22. Another Northern Towing(of the former Northern Illinois MACK) truck.A single axle Value-Liner they bought new. 350 (tip-turbine) and a 12 or 13 speed (can't remember). It is resting comfortably in the barn after a repaint.
