  1. Took this picture of a picture at the Customer Care Center (museum) of the very same truck in action! Ben Burch drove this truck when new & still owns it!............note: Also got an education on the letter/number stickers on the tractor & trailer.Noticed that looked familiar to ones I've seen on many older pictures.Ben told me that those red/white stickers were given free to fleets from the Farmers Insurance Co. as long as they were customers,of course. A company I worked at in high school, had these stickers on all their trailers.Just wondered. Little more useless info for BMT'ers!
  2. The one my uncle drove was a '77 if I recall,Mark.Had to be about the end of the line for them. I know of one in a collection that has an 8V-92 in it.After a while, they offered the big motors in a standard FLT. So who needed the FLP with it's taller windshields and oddball front end cab parts, not mention that bumper, yikes! They are cool to see at a show, though! Waylon Dorner sure had a nice one at South Bend,In. ATHS Conv. a few years back. Al
  3. Justin, Matt is correct on the DuPont 503 green, but it was also tinted to match the Mack interior green needed.I do not have the formula, but taking a panel (that has not seen sunlight-back of glove box door, back of center dash panel, etc.) to a good auto paint store, they should be able to match it for you. Al
  4. Lookin' good,Ray! "Here Kitty,Kitty"
  5. Another way to redecorate an old Schneider unit! LOL!
  6. Test drove a Roy's R kitted from an older Cruise-Liner in the early '90's. Drove like a new one. By time we got back to N.I. MACK,it had been sold!
  7. Good for pick-ups and heavy's! They have catagories for 'em all!
  8. My uncle drove a Powerliner with the standard NTA-400 in it. I really don't like using a competitors name but they already did that with the Titan (Chevy)!! Like it or not!
  9. Can't wait,Jake! Al
  10. I went from 385's to 425's on my '90 RD also. They wore like iron.I usually carried 17-18K up front. Really liked the fact, when I backed off of a road, they kept the front axle from dragging in the mud like the 385's seemed to do. The bigger diameter was a big +! Guess we should have asked some maintance guys at CF.They were a big user of wedge brakes.Maybe they had the secret for making them work right. I guess I really hated them too much to ask!! Floaters don't turn for sh_t,but then again they're on a heavy front axle that aren't known for their tight turning radius! But they sure look and wear great!
  11. Started back to work this past week. Hauling frost slabs that are giving our JD 450 excavator fits. If the 5yd bucket doesn't open up like an aluminum beer can,I'll be surprised! Management put them & us behind the 8 ball,by not taking advantage of the mild winters the last couple of years. Now we're supposed to run our asses off to make up for their bad decisions. Oh well, another day in the pit! Yes,winter can leave anytime now!
  12. At one time it was on ebay and was in Californy,Matt! Think its taking the sh_t tour across America!
  13. I like that,Jake! Al
  14. Nice wb. !
  15. I've heard that about retirement. I think everybody figures,"he's retired,he doesn't have to be anywhere.....let's ask him to do it" ! Take care Ken. Al
  16. That ones been around. Remember it at Macungie a few years ago,was on an R chassis (I believe) with a Allison. You could be" #1 in the #2 business" with that sharp B model!
  17. I heard of people cooling them down in a bath tub, with some ice around them to get the fever down. Just don't know the particulars. Would hate to steer you wrong, ECD.
  18. Have you tried the "Ford Truck Enthusiasts" website? ford-truck.com. They have a great forum (like BMT), with a bunch of people that are as fascinated with Ford Trucks as we are with Mack's! There is a guy on there that decodes VIN's for folks all the time. He might be of some help. Al
  19. Lookin' Good!........except I didn't have my welding helmet on when looking at the picture of the guy welding on the cab. Now all I can see is :point: :point: :point:!
  20. Doin' it right! Those poor F models, sure wish they would have galvanized those cabs like they eventually did with the R's! Glad to see you and a few others are taking the time to save these trucks. Thanks! Al
  21. Went to order from Grainger years ago.Needed a tax I.D. & other B.S.,so I just forgot about them & ordered from Northern. Now I see they have several retail stores, gee what a concept! Got the runaround from my local Fastenal store, and a good friend suggested McMaster-Carr. That outfit has everything I was looking for and like you guys said "fast shipping". For restoration fasteners, they are tops in my book. Al
  22. Very nice, rustydog! Definitely different,a cool different at that!
  23. The nice DM belongs to Richard Hribar Trucking.....Still lookin' good after all these years!
  24. I know what you mean GG2, I HATE WEDGE BRAKES!! Had 'em on the steer axle on an '86 LNT-8000 Ford. Felt like I was leaving one oar in the water, when stopping on wet pavement. God forbid you had to panick stop- sideways you went! for taking them off the Huskydog!
  25. Looks good GG! Put S-cams up front? What did you have up there, wedge or air/hyd disc? Al
