  1. That's the one,Jim! Talked to Gene Olson today and he didn't remember the truck off hand. I will have to send him the pics. I bet he'll know who the guy was when he sees the truck!
  2. Mark, like the visor (before the Lunds were out). Was that custom made or was it from something else, modified to fit the old R? Al
  3. I know a guy that sold him a Cruise-Liner that had a "tuned-up E6-350" in it,that would out pull 425 Cats on a particular grade in Wis. This guy told me,Mr. Schwind rebuilt the motor(didn't really need it) back to stock specifications. He said he wished he known he was going to do that with it,he would have given him a stock 350 to rebuild and put that one in his MH! Oh well. The man is a stickler for maintenance, for sure!
  4. Thanks,Mark & Joe D.. It definitely was the way they ran 'em like that, with the tag axle. I remember seeing a fleet from out east (I think) that also had a daycab LJ with same grille, hood, fender arrangement as this on it. It said "Mr. Mack" across the push plate on the front. It might have been in "Wheels of Time" or "Double Clutch" where I seen it. I use to get ready to look for the truck every time we went by his place, south of Green Bay. We would normally be headed south on the way back from our vacation in the U.P. of Mich. on a Sunday. The truck/trailer was always washed up,hooked up,and ready to leave as we drove by! Al
  5. Happy Birthday R-R! Go ahead and let the clutch out!
  6. That 9000 looks to be in decent shape. Has to be one of the few surviving Spector trucks around. Nice find. Mark, always had a soft spot for the Freightliner cabovers. The outfit I worked at in high school (washing trucks),had several with NH-250's in 'em yet. They just sounded too cool with that backdrop manifold & a Jake brake,ya know? Al
  7. Not exactly the first I drove, but the first one I bought and drove full time. I had driven a few around the yard at the construction outfit I worked for out of high school. But that really doesn't count. This truck (my '79 R612ST) too,was a stretched tractor. That was 1988. All was good until I broke the frame. Had it fixed, and started looking for a truck meant to have 18K on the front axle. Bit the bullet & ordered new. Never sorry I did that.
  8. Welcome! You started off on the right foot, showin' off yer !
  9. ....I was thinking the same thing,Mike. I'll have to call down to the bikini state and ask him! Al
  10. Some people (Vaneck Bros.) still have a sense of decency!
  11. ws721, That is cool you and your brother are the "cabover kings" and are working to preserve that element of trucking history! Somebody has to do it! I commend you guys and understand totally the "too many trucks, not enough $$$$ aspect". Good luck with all your "no-hoods"! Al
  12. Unbelievable, isn't it ?
  13. Any woman that will plow the home 20 out before the 'ol man gets home,is OK by me Ray! She's a keeper!
  14. Almost looks like the roof of an old JB Hunt Navistar grafted to that MH,Vlad.
  15. Here's yet another shot of that Cruise-Liner Aerodyne conversion. Looks like it just got out of the paint shop in this pic....
  16. Lots of possibilities.......nice truck for sure!
  17. ......better get 'er in the shop,Jake! LOL!!
  18. I first seen this truck as a kid,in the early '70's. The owner/operator that hauled produce with it, was located just south of Green Bay,Wis. on RT 41 in Lawrence,Wis. He had advertised the truck in the Wheels of Time for sale in the early '90's. Kind of an interesting look with the B-model fenders on it. This was long before "Trick My Truck",for sure! The house/shop is still there along with a couple of old storage trailers. Don't know what ever happened to the old LJ. Maybe its still in the shop there?
  19. Here is an earlier picture of that same Hank,Jake. It had been owned earlier by a wrecker outfit in Lake Zurich,Ill.,Price Gas. This picture was taken after he had sold it to this outfit and they painted it their color. Note the actual picture of "Huffin' Henri"!
  20. Ha-ha ("nice beaver" comment)! Yes,Chuck,Bill left us on Jan. 28th. Missed by all,you bet. He unselfishly shared his pictures with all of us. In his honor I've ALWAYS given him credit for his pictures (as well as others). Its the least we can do for these great photographers! Glad you liked the "shot"!
  21. Here is a B-53S tandem (or 6 wheeler-Chicago speak) dump owned by Edward Kraemer & Sons of Plain,Wis. The late Bill Bedell caught this early photo.
  22. Cool pics there, Jake! I think I have a picture of a Kraemer B-53S dump in my files, that the late Bill Bedell took.I'll check. Al
  23. Oh yeah,Mark. Who could forget the "Mexican" (or Japanese) Freightliners! And the "Road Commodes LOL! Think I'd rather have a "White-Freightliner" instead. Bill Bedell photo....
  24. Man,thats just too bad. You're right anything can happen, for sure. The tire thing seems to happen more these days. When I was a kid,the big fear was split rims. Now even the tubeless seem to be having trouble. Our local natural gas company, had a mechanic get blasted in the face by a trailer tire that he was walking by while working on the trailer. He was seriously injured, but has since recovered. With all the old tires we all mess with in this hobby, please everyone "USE CAUTION" when working on/around any tires!
  25. ..............."just jump on in where ya can,and hang on!!"
