  1. Good luck,MightyFruit. I have thought about the high-lift gate option, if I had to get back into it. I like the fact that nothing really touches it (for the most part),when dumping. Dump trucks around here, have to be versatile especially for the hourly stuff (only way to go). Just my .02 Al
  2. Oh yeah,Joe! I remember you could rent them at Sierra Sids 76 (Sparks) too! Al
  3. Just from personal experience, I had no idea what the previous owner had for oil in the B C R's motor (END 673D w/turbo added),when I bought the truck in '01. I changed to Rotella 15W40 (the same oil I had run in my work trucks). I ran for a few weeks (running the truck every now and then-probably 20 hours),drained it.Then I took off the removable sump (great engineering) off the oil pan and found a little sludge.Cleaned it up,replaced the sump and changed oil & filter. Had a slight decrease in oil pressure last spring when I started it up. Changed out the oil press. guage, with no luck. Then went to the oil press. relief valve, pulled it out & cleaned it.Got my oil pressure back. Whew! Easy fix!!
  4. I imagine with the small sizes if these L.E.D.'s now,you could make 'em about any color you'd want! I like the idea of drilling the eyes out,Matt. At least you'd know that one wouldn't break off after hitting a few bumps in the road!
  5. Love the old MACK ads also,Mark. Your right,I don't think those guys had it easy either. But it was an improvement over the AC and others that came before them, you know? Now you guys have pretty decent equipment, but a government that is obsessed with regulations (because they know more about the trucking business than you do....right) that keep you from being the most productive that we all know you can be! My hat is off to you guys still doing it. I'd be looking like this...quite possibly! LOL! Al
  6. I like the fact its "intact",Paul. Plenty to start with, for sure.
  7. Here's one for mowerman. Took this one of BOOMTOWN Verdi,Nv. around 1980,when it was still a truck stop. Bob now passes this at least 4 times a day, right Bob? Stopped for lunch there last October. Just a casino now. Not the same, for sure.
  8. A buddy of mine put one of those hollow dogs on his lawn tractor when we were kids.Good place for it,huh? LOL!! Al
  9. Nice! Yoos guys get all the good stuff! ........and it's going to a good home, I might add!
  10. Oh yeah! Not far from the home 20 there,Mark! Just inside the "cheddar curtain" as us "fibs" (f-ckin' Illinois bastards-called by some Wisconsinites) like to say! LOL!! Cool story about your Dad and the trivia! My signature on BMT, is what Big John used to say all the time. No truer words! Al
  11. My uncle and I used to stop at either Curt's Y-GO-BY ,north of Green Bay,Wi., The Stretch in Fond du Lac,Wi.,Holy Hill Truck Stop,Richfield,Wis. all on Rt. 41, or Senter's ,Russell Rd.(Wis./Ill. state line) on our way to and from Chicago with closet doors and shelving from Amasa,Mich. That was when Schneider (Transport) trucks had only 3 or 4 digit numbers and their drivers were all Teamsters. Mark, remember "Big John Trimble" on WRVA out of Richmond? He broadcasted live from Jarrell"s! Al
  12. That WAS taken from your book cover,Bob! LOL!!
  13. VT-903! Rare ,indeed! Looks good,Mike!
  14. Joe, There are a couple of listings right now in the "vintage mack truck parts" category, for the old side dogs. Unfortunately, they are pitted and aren't cheap enough in my my book. (....cheap....cheap....cheap..)
  15. The key is being able to adjust the pressure on the axles, everyone agrees. Most fleets will not allow that for the fear drivers will be adjusting it for traction, and overlook they're axle weights (and here come the "over on the axle" fines). They are pretty much pre-set, and offer the driver nothing to work with. Most won't even raise. That is useless, unless on clean dry roads. Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea in some applications. I would lay money on it, the 6X2 used tractor would have to be a really good deal, and would be the last truck off the lot around these parts.
  16. That IS a clean double frame------Lucky!
  17. ..........Everything old is NEW again! I have heard horror stories from the old timers and present day line haul drivers that have had to put up with this type of set-up. Although the full-locking single axle is an improvement, the snow belt seems to be no place for the tag/pusher tandem. My .02
  18. I've been using the 1233 NAPA,also.
  19. He must have been livin' right! Glad he's alright,Tim.
  20. Welcome Macktech! "Just jump on in were ya can,and hang on"
