  1. Over the years,I have heard of guys using multi-speed transmissions with a Maxidyne(high torque rise) engine with success. Not so much luck, using a 5 or 6 speed with with a Thermodyne or for that matter,an Econodyne (or conventional torque rise engine),unless geared super low (like 5.something rears & direct trans, where it won't hurt 'em). And Mike, there are no dumb questions here.Remember that!
  2. Know what you mean DigDug about paying the price because you know what it would go for elsewhere. If you feel alright with the price for the quality,go for it! I too have missed out thinking,"I'll hold out,he'll buckle" .Just to have some other guy say,"I'll take it for that"! Been there, done that!
  3. You can bet Volvo bought the Terex ADT line just to eliminate them.Weak compared to a Volvo,to say the least.Rigid frame, thats a different story. This will be their second purchase of the Terex brand. They were once known as VME= Volvo Michigan Euclid, after they acquired Michigan and Euclid(a Terex line) in the late '80's.
  4. It's throwing me off :tease:a little bit! An R611ST (were they E-6's by then or still ENDT673C's?) either way, what in the hell is it doing with just a 6 speed behind it? Like the "weasel" says,Themodynes & Maxidynes are 2 different animals. An R685 with a 6 speed, okay. But a 611? HMMMMMMMMMMM?? Of course, trucks can be modified over the years.I know of a guy that put a E-6 in a Superliner that had come from the factory with an EM-6 in it.Lasted about 4-5 months.Couldn't take the lugging.
  5. Lotza yeller & green iron there, slpwlkr! 10-4 on the paperweights! LOL!!
  6. Right back @ ya,Mark!
  7. Oh yeah,Frank's had a 1/32 also.Didn't seem to get quite as much as the H.O.scale track. He had a huge Aurora Model Motoring track (molded in yellow plasic) that was like 10 lanes or so! It had already been disabled by time I started going there. It was loaded with curves.I thought that must have been cool! And yes,Aurora had the "hop up kits"! LOL!!
  8. That just looks TOUGH!! I don't care who you are! LOL!!
  9. Its a 12 footer.Bought it as a cab & chassis.Shortened the wb by 4.5 feet (it had a 26' body on it prior to me buying it),lobbed off another 4' off the back and remounted the big step bumper that was on there when I got it.
  10. That's what I thought,Mike.Looks nice.I think it has like a 320"wb or something.BIG truck! I remembered it belonging to a collection in Louisiana at one time,too.
  11. Looks like it,Fred. Wasn't it built by Howard Fuhgitt (?) from Pa.?
  12. OOH LA LA!
  13. I agree,Mark. I would hang out at Frank's Barber,Toy,and Hobby Shop, downtown Crystal Lake,Ill. With the purchase of any H.O. scale car (Aurora Model Motoring or later A/FX) you got to use the 6 lane track free for a half hour! I had one of the Aurora N-model (we thought they were Ford C-models at first) stake body trucks in my case. Those were like $3.75.AMT truck models were $5.00,cars $3.25.Frank's also had a cool selection of Corgi and Matchbox cars & trucks.Frank passed away years ago.The store stayed open for awhile. Then the big stores came in,and they closed up. Glad to hear Bob's is still open and doing good.
  14. I too like the 7.3,Tim.My little Binder (former U-Haul) has a 7.3 N/A in it. It gets a little use (firewood, scrap hauling, big parts hauling, etc.) per year. Not a powerhouse, but starts great in all kinds of weather.I think it'll be around for awhile!
  15. Welcome Dave
  16. Don't look too bad,Mike.Seems to be a common problem with the trunnion, here in the rust belt.
  17. MACK sure knew how to spoil a guy, with all those "creature comforts"! LOL! Nice article,Mark!
  18. Watch out for the crabgrass!
  19. Yes they did.It was very popular around the northern Illinois area, for one.Check out the thread "Chicago R models". You'll see several examples.
  20. No wallpaper in a buddy of mine's garage,he's into old signs....
  21. Oh Yeah,Hendrickson RSA suspension was lightweight all right.Good for the "bean counter",bad for the driver! Mike Lavery's RL has the same set-up only his has a 237 under the hood.
  22. There was a P&H (Harnischfeger) engine plant right in Crystal Lake.Sunrise Cartage & Meyer Bros.(Glenn,Dale,Roger,Edwin) were 2 of the companies that experimented with them, also. Not too reliable from what I've heard.Like you said James,2 stroke diesels.
