  1. Here is an A model 6 wheeler that Celli had..... The building in the background is their former shop (& home)that was built in 1957 by my great-uncle,Achilles "Kelly" Parochelli & crew.It was torn down a couple years ago,as the town of Schiller Park,Il. forced them out. You'll notice in many of the Celli pictures, that building is in the background.
  2. Ron, No kiddin'! We had a guy around this area that ran one with an 8V-92T in it.As soon as the Driptroit puked,he repowered it with a early 350 (tip-turbine) Mack! One of the strangest sounding FORDs around, but he said he really liked that cab.His father had all MACKs,so he was well versed in the advantages of BULLDOG POWER! Al
  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL YOU GUYS!!!!
  4. Heres an LJ that was part of the Celli fleet.... Gene went to Springfield (Ill. state capitol) many years ago to lobby and testify for the use of short dump trailers in Illinois. He was a firm believer in the use of short dump trailers over the straight trucks of the day,in the name of efficient construction material moving. This was one of their earlier semi-dump configurations.
  5. Thanks for posting that one,Jim.Forgot I have that one in a file somewhere, also! Al
  6. I remember Ford recalling them because the air bags for the cab suspension, were too small(and would fail) and you would see them leaning to one side or another!
  7. Ken, There is video of it.I just found it a week or 2 ago.Might be on the official EK website,I'm not sure.YouTube is always a great source for that stuff. Al
  8. Mack has never really succeeded in the smaller class market.Like 2stack said, the R-400 was just an attempt to get people into a MACK,without the famous ,time tested,MACK powertrain. They did the same in recent years with the RD-series,using the Renault motor, the E-5. I somewhat understand the reason for "cheapening" the engine/powertrain MACK,just leave that to the other guys, and dominate the areas you once held so dear! .............................Al Rhino,.........................Good Day!
  9. Here's one from the "All-American Truck Stops" book!....
  10. I was going to mention that! My K-125 air cleaner is what my step is mounted on (the drivers side).
  11. No kiddin',Mark! I met the man (Gene Celli) when I was 10 years old (42 years ago),and he is now 91 years old and can still hammer out those dates & figures! And he thinks he's not as sharp as he used to be! BULLSHIT Gene, you are the man!
  12. Had to be close,Rich.September of '74,was the Snake River Canyon attempt.Mack Trucks was a sponsor, but not too much after that particular jump!
  13. Your Chicago area R model of the day goes to... Stringer & Son!
  14. Here is a factory press photo sent to me by WHQ in 1975.....
  15. This truck,a NR9,was one of 2 Gene Celli & his Dad,Carlo, bought after the war. Both had 510's in 'em.One diesel, the other gas.He told me they were both former Red Ball Express military trucks! Said they ran them for years. He paid something like $5000.00 for the pair at a miltary surplus auction in Springfield,Ill. Note the Genuine Army canvas roof still intact. He said later on,they did put the steel roofs on the trucks. This picture was taken in Chicago, 1948.
