  1. I like the green, myself. There is plenty of red ones out there (not that its a bad thing). But hey,its your truck and this is still America (for now)!
  2. Ah,10-4 Brocky! Couldn't remember.........too many beers ago,thanks Al
  3. Power right side window, too!! Nice!!
  4. Your Chicago R model of the day belongs to..... The Belding Co. of Chicago. This former heavy-hauling outfit took this R model and its load from outside of Chicago, and delivered it to the USSR! Wonder what the rate was on that one? Probably didn't get a backhaul either! Should have read more about the details of this haul.I think the truck featured a 237 Maxidyne and a 6 speed.Typical tri-axle lowboy truck today-at least double the horsepower, triple the gears!
  5. Here was a Cruise-Liner that was on one of the Axle Equipment post cards in my collection... It was leased to Star Line Trucking of New Berlin,Wis.
  6. Happy Birthday,Fred............you old cuss,you!!
  7. If he keeps it inside and we're not the United States of China by then, that old Brockway will still be lookin' good! ha-ha!
  8. Here is another Chicago area R model........ ......Welch Brothers,Inc. of Elgin,Il. Makers of concrete pipe, manholes, etc.
  9. The Sky Cycle even had MACK on the tail.........................all the way down to the Snake River! Who knows Mark, maybe MACK didn't want to be associated that kind of entertainment? Al
  10. I was referring to the R models in my post, I should have noted that. DM's are another story. Thats strange how the '79 had the 2 stage and the later ones had the hood scoops. Could the later ones been Canadian built?
  11. Looks like that little guy has already been driving that Pup!!
  12. All out of likes,Ron! Great story! Al
  13. No problem,Ron! Yeah, they were gussied up pretty well, couldn't miss 'em! I remember my Dad (on one of our many trips to Upper Michigan),stopped at LaCombe Mack Sales of Green Bay,Wis.for me (I was Vinny's age at the time) and they had "300 Series" coasters and napkins by the coffee pot,as they must have had a visit by the gold trucks! Dad said,"ask if they'll let you have a couple for your MACK collection?".Mr LaCombe said "take as many as you need".Took a couple of each. Nice people they were. Ah-ha,I take it you Smiths must have known Mr. Parker pretty well. Al
  14. The 300 series had either the scoop (early models '73-'75) then the 2 stage (later models). You may have seen trucks with both,Rob,but they could possibly already been converted to the 2 stage(leaving the scoop useless). The Canadian trucks used the scoop longer in production, and had a foul weather intake set up like the old oil baths,so it used the upper intake tube to return just under the hood . Hope this makes sense to you. Al
  15. Here's some E.K. tidbits from the BULLDOG.....
  16. Here's some,Ken........
  17. Happy Birthday,NoClueJoe! Hope you have a great day,Joe!
  18. You bet,Mark.Any of those old truck stop/diner pictures surrounded by the trucks of that period are cool! I don't know who's got more plates in that picture, the diner or the truck!! Ha,Ha!!
  19. Ah-Ha! Well thanks for sharing it with us,Ron. The book was published in 2011 by Icognografix.Guess that was one tidbit of info they missed.
  20. No it doesn't,Mark. In fact the caption includes these words,"...Sadly,the location has been lost to history." The picture is in the Shell Oil subchapter, showing the different Shell Truck Stops. Its a cool book showing the old "choke & pukes", and the "mom & pop" operations and their transformation to the Super-Stops of today.Bought it used on Amazon for like $11.00! Al
  21. .............I'm split between a '68 and a '70!
  22. I just remember my uncle saying,"the Monforts would get on the C B and say,Boys, move on over to the right lane,we're comin' through"! He was in a KW cabover with a 290 Cummins at the time.He told me,he was almost on the shoulder at that time, anyway!
  23. I hear ya,Mike! How lucky Ron was for growing up around them! Gene Olson has a nice H-60 at his place. Real clean and straight, too!
