  1. Aww,come on buddy, can't we all just get along!!
  2. I took it as you don't have to push down too far to get brakes Now,"clutch top pedal" means a whole nother thing!
  3. Maybe we can get PeterMack to do a Chicago Area Die-Cast Truck of the Day thread! I'd be retired by the time he would get to the last one! As soon as he gets married(as if that would happen),that collection will be available on e-Bay!! (I know,Brian, the last laugh is on me.I'm married, you're not)
  4. That looks like a good one! Why do they got to be so darn far away? (hmmmmm.........could have it delivered to Macungie, then drive it home 800 miles...hmmmmm?)
  5. The Buckeye Tavern? It's an old building (barn),right Matt? If thats the same place you're talkinhg about. The food/service was real good a couple years back, anyway.
  6. The Chicago area R model of the day goes to.. Cassidy Conveyor. Its really an RB,but nonetheless a version of the R,so it qualifies! Brian Dhamer Photo. In fact thats Brian with his brand X,dumping into the conveyor. (pssst....Peterbilt's can't get close enough to the slab/foundation to just dump in!) sorry,Bri.......we're still friends, right?
  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY,BARRY!! THANKS FOR BEING OUR WEBMASTER AND ALL! HOPE THIS GREETING IS A "BEST ANSWER" CANIDATE!!
  8. Yep,Its amazing SOME of the people that are out there. We've all had to work with, around, and sometimes for! There is a Homer Simpson at every outfit! DOH!
  9. That Cruise-Liners a shorty! Must be like 144"wb! Almost down to "trailer-toter" specs! MH DOES look nice!
  10. Thats why Meyer got rid of the DMM's,Trent.I guess when a driver would get put in one of those, rather than an Oshkosh, or RD,or standard DM,he would forget and upon exiting the cab, would slip and fall off of the thing (thats a long way down). Why a guy can't stop and think about it,I'll never know? Meyer said they were a "workman's comp case, waiting to happen". I guess statistics showed it was a bad design (MACK only had it for like 40+ years)!
  11. That IS a good question! Was it when the interior color was switched to gray? My father-in-law had an '85 R688ST(Canadian-built) that had a beige/brown interior yet.I remember going to an open house at Elgin(Ill.)Mack with him in the fall of '86 and seeing a new '87 with the gray interior, but didn't notice if the dash was the hard plastic or not.Yes,Mike I liked that version of the plastic, also.More durable than the padded type.Although, I liked the beige/brown or tan interior(even the red or black Western) colors better, for some reason!
  12. Richie told me about them, but a non-running KT sounded like a checking account drainer! I helped put the wet kits on,fire extingiushers, beacons, etc. all 4 of those trucks, when they were new.My boss told me,"He better not see me driving one of the new trucks".I said,'I'll just wait 'till you leave".
  13. I don't know.A 300/auto, would probably be sufficient. They would be geared pretty low,as they wouldn't see any street time.I know 40mph is pretty fast in a gravel pit or quarry! Our "safety nut" (or company condom-he's there for your protection),wants us to travel at 10mph in the pit.We travel on a 3.5 round trip haul road at times.Too slow,or too fast can cause you to work yourself right out of a job.I run 10-15 around the plant areas as a rule.I get out on the haul road 20-25 is a safe speed in a 40-tonner.
  14. Boy,what a screw up on somebody's part, huh? That would be interesting to see, for sure! It was a common practice, back when cabovers didn't tilt. I guess I have seen a few pictures of some brand X C.O.E.'s with add-on bunks, but no F's.
  15. Yes.The paving side is now called "Orange Crush,LLC". They got their PP slapped by the state of Illinois, and can no longer do state work.
  16. Here are 2 pictures Richie sent me,3 years before they were scrapped Richie said they nicknamed the trucks,"The Sheeba's" LOL!! They were big, bulky, and with those floaters on the front (& 18 F),they didn't steer worth a shit! He said they usually put the new guys in 'em.Which is probably the reason why they ended up in the field and ultimatley, cut up!
  17. I think that diner is "The Bear Swamp Family Resturant" or something like that. Good food. We went one year down the block to the Macungie Pub (now called The Pub on Main).Sign out front said "The best clam in town" so we thought we'd go in and see what all the fuss was about. They were right!
  18. Happy Birthday, you old cuss!! Have a great day, unless you got other plans!
  19. Since were on the path of BIGGER Macks,we have to remember folks, this thread is "Chicago R models" LOL!! It doesn't get any more Chicago than a Palumbo R model, and they don't get any bigger than these RM 800's ! Enjoy! These monsters are used for stockpiling sand & stone at one of their asphalt plants,I would imagine. The last time I seen one of these RM dumps was at Vulcan-McCook,while I was headed for the Hodgkins scale(1998-9).It belonged to Central Blacktop. They must have a plant in the quarry. I wish Meyer would buy one of these instead of the 40 ton Deere I drive!
  20. No problem there,Mark. That Oshkosh Converted to a DMM (or an OCDMM),is a pretty interesting truck, too! Al
  21. Ah ha! Looks like a 10-ton ARMY Tractor there.I can't remember the nomenclature of those.They had a V-8 Cummins in them,though.
  22. Yeah,Tom,my buddy's truck is doing the same thing. He said his gear was also not spinning when he put the new sensor in.Says it works fine for a few hours, then only reads about 20mph tops, for the rest of the day.He is also pulling out what hair he has left!
