  1. Hi Guys. My B61 has a FA505 front axle. I believe the king pins can be adjusted. In the manual, it looks like I have "type III". According to the manual, I jack under the axle centre to remove the load, remove the cotter pin and adjust the thrust bearing screw to bring within tolerance. Has anyone done this and are there any things to watch for? Thanks. Rod.
  2. Hi Guys, Would a bogey drive off a CH just slip into a B61's frame or are they different widths? Thanks. Rod. And where would I find the ratio's stamped?
  3. Having owned and driven both, the Duplex lever is on the right hand side (your passenger side) of the main gearbox lever, whilst the quadbox lever is placed on the left hand side (your drivers side) of the main gearbox lever. Why, I do not know. - Rod.
  4. It is quite common to see these parked overnight at the drivers home in the configuration of when the truck is tipping. ie the trailer is parked parallel (but facing the opposite direction) to the truck. Looks all tight and cosy.
  5. Hang in there. When I brought my BEAST home, I thought to myself, what have I done now. That is ONE HUGE job. Then I had a cup of tea, sat down and told myself, No. It's not one big job, it's just hundreds of small jobs. You will get there. Most of us have heard the phrase "you should have been here yesterday" Again, a lot of us are not in the industry. We beg, borrow or st... to get things done. I find that a lot of businesses help me out pricewise, when I tell them that I'm not in the industry and the part is going to help restore an old truck that is on conditional registration (ie not going to be used for earning money). As I said. hang in there. You Will Get There!! Rod.
  6. Hi Grant. Thanks for the piccy's. I decided not to go this year, as in previous years they have sandwiched me between huge new skyscrapers of trucks. Very intimidating I have suggested to organizers that it may be better to place all the older historic trucks in one area, but they don't want to do that. Rod.
  7. No No No. Rob, don't tell me there is an easier way. You mean that (remember right hand drive), My clutch pedal which comes/travels about 14" out of the floor (leaving me 17" to place my leg and I'm 6' 2" tall) and then, still in one piece goes almost to the back of the gearbox, over the top and then down the left hand side of the gearbox to the clutch. This same pedal that needs almost both feet to hold it down at the traffic lights - don't tell me it can be replaced by "a hanging pedal from an R model". I suppose this new arrangement can also be operated by one foot only? Don't tell me it can be done - simply. I don't want to know Ah...the younger generation
  8. Having done it about 3 times in the last 4 or so years, here is my 2c worth. Mike. You had me worried when you said "When phaseing in the air compressor to the engine, is their a geared tooth that both comp. & engine have to line-up in-order to be phased in ? Or does the comp. piston have to be at TDC or something same as timing an car engine" That really had me going, because no I had not lined anything up!!! Gambi80 said "What an effin bugger that was putting it back on" UNDERSTATEMENT of the year - however, it can be done. Mike. I did not use a floor jack. What I did was tie a rope around it and loop it around something up top. Raise the compressor with one hand and pull on the rope with the other. Oh. I should mention, that at about this time, my 2 month old pup decides to come under with me and help by licking my bald head. Funny that the more I laughed, the more she licked and compressor slipped back down to floor. Did this about 3 times! I think the operation would be a lot easier with two people (and NO pup). The person, up the top, just to take the tension on the rope and also direct how to position the compressor and the person underneath, just providing the brawn. Oh. Forgot to tell you guys that these were all changed on my B61 which is right hand drive and therefore there is a big steering box to complicate matters. But as I said, it can be done!
  9. Welcome Pete, This is a fantastic place (but don't spread it around). Are you working or retired? Regards, Rod.
  10. It is a fantastic place. We also have another island a bit closer to Aus and it too is great for a holiday; http://www.lordhoweisland.info/ Have been to both of them many times. Rod.
  11. This photo recently appeared in a motoring magazine. Megan has kindly provided the following information; I have quite a lot of Mack truck images, so if you would like anymore - please don't hesitate to ask - I have the whole series of getting the Mack off the ship. The Mack is owned by Mr Brendon Christian (Norfolk Island resident) who runs BC Excavations on the island. He imported 2 of the Macks, he is a good friend of mine. Kind regards, Megan Fitzpatrick Image Gallery Taylors Road Norfolk Island E: imagegallery@ninet.nf Ph: 0011 6723 23045 Norfolk Island is an absolutely fantastic place. www.norfolkisland.com.au
  12. Hey Swishy. Welcome to where some of us lurk. I thought you were here ages ago. To our friends who do not know Swishy, he is a wealth of info and always very eager to help. Welcome again. Rod.
  13. Hey Mark. That is all set up for Duel II :D
  14. Unfortuntely guys it is a myth, although we, like you, would like to believe it was so. http://www.snopes.com/crime/justice/grambo.asp
  15. Hi Andy. Is this the inside of Malcolm Macwatt's B853SX w/Cummins? If so, what is the big gauge on the dash?
  16. Hi Andy. Unusual stick arrangement.
  17. Hi Jeff. I made the same swap a couple of years ago. I found all the mounts etc did line up, but I did have to get a new drive shaft (shorter) made up, because the length of the 20 speed gearbox is longer. If you recheck, everything should just slide right on in. Rod.
  18. Finished. The engineering company I found locally, bored and bushed the old bracket and also made up one new sliding rail. Cost just over A$200, but just been for a test run and FANTASTIC!!! And while I had nothing to do  I decided to change the air compressor. So here I am, lying flat on my back, under the old girl, pushing a 25kg air compressor UP from underneath and juggling it for position, when my (well, she actually belongs to the Guide Dog Assoc) 13week old pup decides to lick my almost bald head. When I keep pushing her away, with whatever hand is free, she then turn and pushes her ass into my face. "Life wasn't meant to be easy"
  19. I wish Matt all the best. He helped get me parts and send them to Australia no hassle at all. Whereas most companies in the USA will not even reply to us. Your top of my list Matt. Rod.
  20. UPDATE - After searching here and the States, love nor money cannot buy a new (or even a good) one, so a local engineering company is going to "bore and bush" it for me. Not cheap, but at least it will be good. Yeeha! Rod. ps thanks Macks. Long Island Truck Parts advised me, that they had not sold one in about 10 years. Yours must have been the last
  21. Hi Guys. Just found this and thought our Stateside mates might like it. Enjoy. Rod.
  22. Well done. What a lad. Thank you.
  23. All of a sudden, all thread show only one topic and then all the replies are condensed into one lines, which I have to click on to open. I must have touched something. Help!!!
