  1. I'm surprised there are any e7's out there getting less than 6-7mpg, the old 93 I had is still running getting 6.8 most I've run got at least 6 and closer to 7. I would guess you got to do some gear swapping to get into the power band and get those rpm down to get the mileage up. That rawhide looks good, I did 9 cab lights on the 06 Granite and I'm trying to get em here to do it on the 85. I don't know about that louvered grille, it looks good just dont know if i like it better than the factory elite grille. Good luck with the Superdog, keep us informed on what you do to it, I'm curious now.
  2. I'm pretty sure there would be some issues with some state and federal folks if I wore a nametag. I could tell ya but then id have to kill ya! LOL!
  3. Well I'll be damned, being a mechanic I can vouch for the validity of these definitions.
  4. Id like to have one but I couldn't afford to come get it.
  5. What's wrong with the automatic? An Allison would be my choice if I bought a new dump truck, they do much better off road, paving, milling anytime you needed steady low speed performance they are the ticket. I know someone will say its a girls truck and all I can say is try one of each and you'll see what I mean. If I was to buy an otr truck its completely opposite id go with a 13 or 18 manual, I do not like the centrifical clutch automated manuals at all. If you swap it id go with an 8LL they are plentiful and cheaper than a 309 or t310 which would be my Mack trans of choice for a dump. If you decide to swap you will need to have the ecm reflashed or replaced with one from a manual there are sensors it relies on forcertain engine parameters, the tcm will come out with the trans, then you get to change the motor mounts, speedo adapter, center floor panel, add a clutch pedal assembly and cable, drive shaft and that's just the beginning.
  6. Nothin says get off my lawn like a .45 aimed at your forehead!
  7. Good game cameras are good for places like that, make sure you get the ir version not the white light flash or they will see the flash and just take the camera. I have a couple that have the ir flash and you can set for stills or video I set em to shoot a 2 minute video every time they trip and if its dark it still works great since its got the ir light. I think they were about $80 ea at Dicks sporting goods.
  8. I had one of those little paving companies get me for $2500 for hauling, sent a truck to em for two weeks and got paid at the end of the day every day, they called and said they had a big job to do and wanted to settle up at the end and since they were good with my money before I said ok, well the job got finished and they were gone back to Minnesota the day after with my money, if I ever see em here again I'll go get my money out of em one way or another.
  9. 91 no power under load, yep check as above your not getting your fuel advanced under a load or your bleeding charge air in the intake system somewhere, when its not wanting to pull does it smoke more than usual or not at all? Smoke check intake system you got a leak no smoke your not getting your pump to advance.
  10. County highway dept here is all Mack for heavy trucks, always has been. They have one medium duty Mack mid liner still in the ranks too, most of the single axles are something else. I remember growing up seeing a Mack R model tractor pulling the lowboy and Dm tandem dump trucks, now its a set forward CH with the lowboy and Granite tandem dumps. I know they pondered and demo'd a Freightliner once after they got the first two Granites and nobody wanted to leave their R models for the Freightliner so they went back to Mack. TDOT has had their purchasing issues but they always end up back to Mack triaxles in the end, they have some Freightliner trucks but mostly Mack CH,CL tractors and RD, Granite dumps, actually there's a few Internationals in there too but I have never heard good things about them.
  11. 10-4, got plenty to do before I can make it but I'm trying!
  12. if so, just make a stainless filler panel for the bottom of the bumper to make it look taller like the white truck above, on the tapered ends use double light brackets, or some plain stainless pieces and make the center panel the same height and the top attatched to the bumper by a full width stainless pin hinge. I had the center panel made by a fabrication shop and they put a half inch lip on the bottom to give it some rigidity and riveted the top edge to the stainless pin hinge with stainless rivets every 6 inches, then I used 5, 1/4" bolts to mount it to the bottom of the bumper. That truck had a tow pin in the middle but with the center panel on a hinge I could lift it up and run a strap to the tow points on each side under the spring hanger. On the black truck I removed the factory bumper brackets and made a new mount out of 3/4" plate that bolts to the factory mounting locations, I put a tow pin in the middle and used some 2" tube on each side to attatch the bumper to the bracket, I drilled and tapped the tube so the bolts just threaded into the bracket and held the bumper, then you just lift up the tag holder and put a strap into the pin. it looks plain with the bumper on it but if you pull it off there was a major piece of iron back there with my tow pin in it.
  13. Which bumper do you have and where are your tow points? do you have the angled back ends on a flat chrome bumper with the tow points under the front spring hangers?
  14. I kinda figured the great Barry was a mythical figure that never aged so is this just an anniversary of sorts ? Thanks for putting up with us Barry!
  15. Thanks, I am gonna guess they have room for trailers too, I hope so cause I ain't bouncing that far I'll have a 40' van or a 45' lowboy.
  16. I actually got the same mileage wit my last E9 as I did my last E7, both kinda turned up a bit!But both got 6.2-6.8mpg every time I checked. Out of curiosity what's the trailer parking situation like, if I make it I'll be toting an old L&N piggyback trailer or a lowboy(with more Mack's), I'm not driving 800+ miles on unloaded 44k camelbacks! And I would need mine for Transportation to the motel, I saw a golf cart post are they ok with personal rides like that I have a Gator that would be nice after a few hours?
  17. Ponder this, its over 800 miles from my house and I'm trying to make sure my stuff is in order so I can go! Think about my fuel bill in a V8 Superliner from TN!
  18. Just looked at an old mack book, it says the same thing if there's air coming out of the service side when the emergency side is released check for back flow from emergency side thru the chambers and qr valves. If the relay valve leaks with the brakes applied reseal or replace the valve
  19. Like I said if there is air leaking with the brakes released its probably a bad brake chamber, there is no pressure application difference on the relay valve until you push the brake pedal. Go to the small quick release valve mounted on the axle between the brake chambers on the service side, it will have one air line in from the relay valve and two air lines out to the chambers. Remove the lines that go to the chambers and then push in the dash valve to release the brakes, one of them will have air coming out of it if you have a bad chamber, it costs nothing to prove me wrong. From what you are describing it almost has to be the issue, unless your pulling the hand valve down in that case there are other possible but you have not mentioned that in this thread so I'm guessing you have it in gear brake valve in hand valve released.
  20. They headlight trims on a newer RD are plastic not chrome steel like the old ones. Square headlight vs. Round.
  21. The liscense plate hanger on the black truck covers up a tow pin hole, the piece of stainless on the bottom of the bumper between the lights on the white one folds up I made it on a stainless pin hinge.
  22. Is this a can of automotive paint that has had hardener added previously?
  23. Mack has power gray I got a couple cans recently, its not cheap but its nothing I have been able to match just right and the Mack paint is thicker kinda epoxy like it will help seal the engine.
  24. The black ain't bad, on white the stainless disappears and if you paint em it chips when bugs hit it and then they look worse than they do plain black.
