Yep sounds like toe out and or king pins, if its spoke wheels jack them up one side at a time and spin the tire with something next to it to see if its on crooked you may have to loosen two nuts across from the high spot and tighten the one that's out and try again, if they don't run true it will wobble. Of course if the toe is out or the king pins are bad running straight won't help.

I haven't heard about the short lines creating moisture, I can see hot compressed air cooling and condensing moisture in the system, that's the whole reason for a dryer. I have installed many an AD9 on trucks built without dryers in whatever location worked best, I don't think you will have any issues with the location. I will say this I have had to remove several airdryers and tanks over over the years to do transmission work, keep in mind what your mounting location will do to a future clutch replacement. I mounted the one on my 84 on the back of the tool box on the drivers side in front of the back wheels, it was never in the way working on a diveline or trans issue.

Triaxle dump body length?
rsb502 replied to REEL ADDICTION's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Tri axles here in mid tn are 16' body, we run 74,000 on state roads, go by bridge law on interstate, I have seen 15' Tri axles and 18' Tri axles really just depends on you. I would go for a 16' with a tri axle and an 18.5 on a quad, my reasons being the shorter the truck the lighter the truck and a 16' bed with 60" sides is about it for hauling 24tons in the bed, with the quad you can gross 80,000 on state and the bridge on a truck with a set forward axle and 18.5' bed gets you to70,000 on the interstate, anything longer the tare versus gross doesn't add up. There's my reasons, now you gotta ignore us and go with your math. -
Granite outside air cleaner
rsb502 replied to MACKTRUCKS4's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Yeah I pondered those too, since its a universal cab it could be anything for any other truck, CH,CV,CL,CX, you get the picture. They hadn't started with the titan then so that's not it, I never figured it out, always thought it was for hood stops, or alignment on another truck model. -
Luber finer not lumber, damn phone!
-
That location can be either a power steering reservoir or a lumber finer remote oil filter. Your pic has a dipstick so its the power steering variety. I just might have one of each in hiding for a future project!

a lot, avoid tight areas with a tri drive, if your loaded youll push the steer tires in loose ground before it turns. I have been looking into a different option for a friends truck. I am balancing weight distribution with traction, I am going to pull his front drive out, put the rear on the front air suspension and mount a trailer axle on the rear air suspension, then move the leveling valve to the front and add a dump valve to the rear air bags operated from a second dash switch. If my engineering works out, it will get single axle fuel mileage, distribute his weight right loaded and when he needs traction he can dump the air on the rear putting all the weight on his drive aiding traction. I think I have the parts I need I have a remote air valve from a tag axle that when activated will block the air to the rear bags from the leveling valve and dump the pressure in the rear bags at the same time(Watson and chalin valve).

Is this a spoke wheel truck? If so have you jacked it up and checked for runout?

I have to chime in with my two cents here, I enjoy BMT more than any other web based anything I have ever gotten into. I have to say the reason is everything is kept fairly light hearted and I have not seen anyone intentionally trying to demean anyone on this sight. I think more than anything I enjoy learning about trucks and sharing what little bit of knowledge I have with others, if it wasn't for reading all the posts I can here I would not know what I do. I have always liked to meet old truckers and old mechanics and pick their brains, its what has helped me get to where I am now and has probably kept me out of trouble more than once. I want to thank all those on BMT that are willing to share their wisdom with others, there are very few true old Mack gurus left and I am thankful that several are here and willing to share their knowledge so others can keep the old trucks running. So in closing, Thank you to all those that share on BMT and thanks to Barry for keeping it going and keeping us in check, I truly appreciate what I have learned here and I can't say that about the ATHS. Thanks,Ryan B.

R / RW interior driver side door panel
rsb502 replied to Rwm3's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Contact phil at global truck parts for door panel, and a new dog is about $65 from Mack, I think they are on Watt's website in the r model store, no point in paying for a used dog. -
With a mechanical E7 350, the fuel system flows plenty for about 450hp you just have to get the pump set up and advance the timing a few degrees. I know a lot of people change parts looking for power but with a mechanical engine you can make plenty with what you have already, and its cheaper than swapping parts. If you really want to swap parts get with a trim diesel or another good diesel shop and get the pump set, timing advanced and some aftermarket injectors and turbo and you can make over 500 to the wheels pretty easy with an E7.

When you get the rocker covers off and loosen up the saddles make sure the press in studs that hold them aren't loose in their holes, it happens and you get a tick had it on my 440, STAXX took care of it.

I'm glad someone posted the copyright law but seems they already have it covered with " non commercial use" in their own usage agreement, I'm pretty sure BMT is "non-commercial use". I can't help but think these may be the same guys that don't think "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" means you can have a gun. I would bet most that would argue about that pic when it clearly met their own posted criteria would argue about the second amendment, wonder if they know why "freedom of speech and expression" means? I gotta let this go I'm too tore up fighting the 2nd issue right now to deal with more stupid!

Mack Rw Superliner Scale Model
rsb502 replied to Pawel's topic in Mack Scale Model and Diecast Corner
Excellent work, Id like to have you build one of my truck but I doubt I can afford it. I have a friend here from Poland that has custom ho trains made back home they are always perfect. You guys are great at detail work over there, maybe one day I can make the trip with Peter he knows of a few model makers to go see. -
Replacing rear cab panel on Superliner
rsb502 replied to keg1's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
while you have that sheetmetal off, put some dynamat or other sound deadening material in between the metal in the corners, its one of the only places you cant get to with the interior out since its double walled and I do love the way dynamat helps the interior noise level, it makes a HUGE difference. -
Traction! a tandem with a tag limits traction on slick/soft ground, a tridem makes more traction and still distributes weight like a tandem with a tag. If loaded light a tridem will be squirrely too, there isnt much tractive effort when the weight of an empty truck is divided over 14 wheels so most tridems built are heavy chassis that will have something heavy mounted on them or will pull a dedicated trailer almost all of the time to keep the weight needed for traction, most are sold in Canada where the ground gets spongy and soft as it thaws(for the two warm months!).

Ha, well its a little older than 2013 I think it was 2006 when that one was taken, I bought it early in 06 and had it fixed up later that year, I dont see the issue about the pics. If they are selling the pics for money, then I would think they need the truck owners and manufacturers permission, you cant put a Mack emblem on anything without getting their say so. I really havent ever seen the issue with this kind of stuff, I have taken pics of trucks and planes for years and years, I have pics going back to when I was in a Wickes Lumber truck at 5 years old (on a forklift too, Dad was the manager here). I have never asked for anything for mine, hell I have made copies for people, with the shirts I gave them permission, who cares its a picture its not your life savings, if you are counting on the income off of pics of trucks you posted on the internet to put your kids thru college and support your retirement, well I hope you like beenie weenies(is that name copy righted). If anybody wants to copy pics of my trucks go for it, and if you want to get some other pics I have, email me or call me, I have tons of pics of trucks and trains too. Nuff Said!
