  1. Does anybody know how many Superliners showed up this year? looks like it was a great time, I am going to have to get there next year.
  2. 10-4, ROGER! Im back out!
  3. I didnt even notice that I looked at it 3 or 4 times, good catch.
  4. Hey, what are ou trying to do make the truck truly worthless? At least with a Cat somebody will buy it for parts!
  5. Oh yeah the 1693, its A BAD MOMMA SHUT YO MOUTH! I ran dump trucks for years with a friend that has a 1973 KW ext hood A model W900 with a 1693 that thing is a bad ass, the only thting that has ever run with it was my old daycab Superdog with an E9 440hp. I dont want to sound biased with my engine oppinions its not like I hate all Cats and love all Macks to me(i know ill get crap for this) the E9 is the best pulling stock engine in a truck but its not the best engine they have reliability issues too, I would say the most relaible engine I have ever been around would have to be an N-14 Cummins red head, the N-14 460s and 500's just ran forever, all you have to do is change the oil and about every two or three years replace the EPS sensor and they just go. Actually the second strongest truck I have ever driven was a cranked up N-14 525, that sucker was a bad boy it had to making over 550 to the wheels. Well theres my two cents plus a little extra, guess Ill sit back and wait for the flak.
  6. To all the comments on E models, I think the E model is a great engine, but I dont think it was the best ever, I still think that was the B model. I may rate these things differently than most though, since I am a mechanic /driver, I rate them by reliability and the E model had more issues than the B hands down, the B's just ran forever if you took care of em, the E models have what people here call the E model shake when they get some bad fuel or water thru the fuel system it gets a miss thats hard to find using injector cut out tests. I know I have been around about 20 or so that had it I know of 6 right now, I know that you can throw new injectors, new fuel system check valves in it and it will fix it but it just seems like it should be easier to diagnose and fix to me. The first C-15 was actually just a 3406E with a new name it wasnt a 15.2 liter like the ACERT engines they came a year or two later, the first C-15 wasnt bad, the ACERT sequential turbo engines had some pretty serious issues with heads and turbos for the first 3 years and they have gotten the reliability better now but its still tainted to me. As far as stopped making it, well they didnt they just stopped painting it yellow its blue and gray now and its called the Maxxforce 15 the Cat C-13 is the Maxxforce 13, Cat and International made an agreement that Cat would supply engines to International if they would build them a truck thats why the doors on the CAT truck look like International doors, they are.
  7. If you were standing there with my hood on the ground youd be shot when I got back, but thats just me Im kinda OCD about my truck, hands off I dont f with anybody elses I want the favor in return. I have always hated the Major Car Show crowd, the local cruise in guys are OK, most of em anyway. But the big shows I have been to in the past I was ticked off half way thru listening to the b.s. about everybodys cars not being perfect like theirs are, and he has the wrong headlights and he has the wrong tires and he has the wrong color needle in his speedo, just WTF?
  8. I dont see a reason to rebuild until there is excessive blow by, or engine noise, of course a c-15 sounds like its falling apart off the showroom floor. I dont think I would ever buy one I know everybody I know that has em has had issues with them, the early c-15's at Howard Baer all had broken head bolts and bad actuators, a couple of them were down so much they got rid of em. I hope you didnt get an Acert c-15 they are worse about actuator issues, turbo issues, and get horrible fuel mileage for the power they make, I think Cat quit making engines after the 3406B and just cobbled the rest together from parts they had laying around. if you want a new Cat C-15 go get a new International with a Maxxforce 15 thats just a gray and blue Cat C-15.
  9. the mounting flange was one of my concerns, I didnt think about the hx going the other way I dont know if it would have registered if I did. My cast elbow is almost toast too the flange under the clamp is getting pretty thin so Ill probably have to do the same thing with a 5" flange elbow and tight radius 90 for mine as the stockers are getting hard to find and they cost $600.
  10. Well Im sad I missed it but I am gonna try to get there next year, hopefully with the Superliner to add in to Superliner row, I think seeing those pics is jsut great all those old Macks in the same place is one of the best sights I can imagine, and a bone yard to boot!
  11. The best engine brake on a Mack in my book is the Powerleash on the Aset engines, but I havent driven an MP8 or MP10 so they may be better. The old E-7 and Etech brakes worked good with thick cold oil but started to slack off after the oil thinned out, we put a high volume oil pump in an Etech 350 and that sucker had some great braking power after that. I know the dynatard in an E9 works best cold with thick oil it fades after it gets hot too, but the engine pulls so damn hard I just dont care. I like HP!
  12. I got hat same info from another E9 owner recently, I have access to some HT60 turbos so I was trying to see if it was a vaiable swap, I read a few years back thats what they run on em in AU so I dont know I might just go with the Antrum turbo, injectors, intercooler, pump setup. I do like HP!
  13. Somebody better get that E9 Cruiseliner, I dont think I have ever seen one before only heard that they made em, it would be a RARE truck for sure and at $6500 you cant put reman heads on that engine(at least I cant).
  14. Im pretty sure the lower mount is the spacer under the u bolts on top of the spring and the upper is a frame bolt replaced with a stud, find another MR with shocks on the front and get the VIN then look at the fron susp breakdown should only be 2 studs, 2 lower mounts, possibly two spacers under that, then 6 washers, 8 bushings and 6 nuts. Oh and 2 shocks!
  15. The 2000,01,02 427 Etech engines were cam getters, its a common job to put a cam in em, like Staxx said check the valve train most of the time they get a valve or something else when they go, at any rate most reputable shops have probably done one before and have the stuff to do it again.
  16. MMMM...trtxl 1070, why did they stop making that awesome piece of mechanical achievement, I dont think I ever found a speed or a load I couldnt get into the power band with that thing and some 4.42 rears.
  17. That Green is freakin awesome, I am going to go dark Blue metallic on mine with silver metallic stripes when I get it done, hopefully next year, maybe 10 years from now.
  18. Those 310J 4x4 cab backhoes weigh about 17500 the 310 SJ weighs in closer to 18500, we have hte SJ's at work you want to talk about a stout backhoe those things are crazy strong. I think the new J series Deere's are nicer than the old 416 Cat's but the new 420E series machines are SWEET! I gotta say it would be a tough call if I was bying a new backhoe it would be a Cat 420E or a Deere 310SJ, the Case doesnt even rate until you get to a 580Super N with pilot controls on the rear, they are close but to have the same power you would need a 590 Super N I believe, the new Case rear boom on the Nseries is tons better than the old ductile Iron boom but the 580's are short on Hyd power compared to the SJ and Cat, the Case 580 Super N is supposed to be equivalent to the SJ but its not as strong and the 310J is a little stronger than the 580 N but not as strong as the Super N. There B your new backhoe run down from somebody that works for a railroad that supposedly has or leases around 350 of em. I have 8 between Nashville and Chattanooga TN.
  19. Well I guess nobody knows about the Holset, does anybody have an upgraded Turbo on an E9 that they can give me some info on?
  20. That is an awesome old B model I like the fact it is still in pretty much original condition, I would love to have it but I dont have much cash left after the start on my Superliner project, but man it would look cool behind the sdog on a lowboy going to Gerharts next year.
  21. sounds like camelback with rubber bushings and deep tread to me, how heavy on how many axles? are we talking 50000 on 3 axles or 80000 on 5 axles, it makes a big difference. I ran 65000 to 68000 on both tandem and tri axle dumps the tandems were always squirrely to me over 50000. What axle ratings? 16000 front, 44000 rear or 14600 front and 34000 rear?
  22. A 300+ was a bad mutha, I ran both mechanical 300 and 350's and I always thought the 350 pulled better, after the swap to V-MAC I ran all 350,400,427 and 460's. I always liked the way a Mechanical 350 ran especially an E7 they seemed to have an endless supply of torque, the heavier the load the more low end grunt the truck seemed to have, I had a 93 CH with the VMAC 1 400 (bosch electronic pump) it ran the same loaded or empty, you had to get it on a pretty good hill or really load it down to notice any real difference in power, of course I run em to about 1600 and shift I dont know if I ever had that truck over 1700 that was about72 and fast enough for me pulling a dump trailer at 80,000. I have had to learn to drive a Mack over the years, I ran the piss out of em when I started and tried to get em as high in the rpm as I could just wasting fuel and killing the trucks, I was too young and smarter than the old guys that told me I would haul just as much letting the truck do the work. I think after I really figured it out and got used to a Mack I rarely even look at a tach I give it about half pedal and when torque peaks I shift it so Im probably only running 1200-1400 in low then maybe up to 1600 in high range, that is the greatest thing I have learned from all the older guys I have watched over the years, let the truck do the work let it tell you when to shift and if you cant feel it you better just get out of it, you have to feel a truck to drive it right.
  23. Aww hell Ill do it, 2 years! The two are basically the same truck just differences of year model options, like engine and chassis designation as severe duty, however I have been wrong before.
  24. Thats pretty awesome, I cant say I have been loaded by helicopter, anyone else?
  25. these are a few of the trucks I have owned or driven over the last few years, I have a few Mack truck pics from Iraq in here too
