  1. Well the one I am thinking of getting back isnt fresh by any means, but its fairly tight no real blowby and no external leaks or seeps I will probably do rod and main bearings and retorque the heads again if I get it back just for shits andd giggles so I think a 10 or15% over pump and larger turbo should be fine.
  2. Im glad Im not the only one that has IDIOTS aggrevate them when buying parts, I have heard the I have to have your VIN thing too and I always reply I will give you the p/n or the engine s/n but thats it look in the book. I love the look in their eyes when you say book, I guess they have forgotten what those are nowdays and I know they have them right in the back behind the counter. I loved my 84 superdog with the E9 440hp I know it made more than 440 (probably alot more) but it was the strongest truck I have ever driven and that is counting several E7's and N-14 cummins trucks, even a turned up N-14 525 and that thing was pretty peppy. I am looking hard at buying another superdog or maybe my old one back and "when" I get another one it will have to have an E9 its the only way to go for a hp junkie like me.
  3. I do love the way an E9 pulls and I have always been told by old Mack mechanics that the mechanical Mack engine ratings were much closer to Rear Wheel Ratings than Flywheel ratings the guys always said that if a Mack was rated at 350 and a CAT or Cummins was rated at 425 they would be a close match. I wouldnt believe it until I had driven a 300+ that was supposedly stock and it pulled better than my E7 400, then ran with a CAT 550 for a couple weeks and he couldnt get away from my E9 440 to save his life ( dont tell him but I wasnt even trying hard to keep up).
  4. I need info on the Francis Turbo Upgrade please post back when you get it done to let us know how it pulls. I had the v-8 style pump on my 84 I never had it gone thru but I have heard the inline was the way to go for power, I am thinking I want to go buy it back but hey who knows. I know if I do I am going to have to get into it and make some more power its just too darn addictive passing petes!
  5. I would look into removing the exhaust brake completely if the butterfly in the exhaust gets loose or rusts where it connects to the shaft it can move restricting the flow, I doubt it would cause low boost if anything boost would go up slightly by restricing the engine exhaust after the turbo. I think I remember having high EGT low boost issues a few times before on trucks coming thru the shop it was normally boost leaks but I also found some had air intake issues before the turbo limiting airflow causing the engine to run rich and get hot, things like old filters / hoses being sucked in and the interior coming apart on one and hanging down, a 97 ch has an air filter box on the firewall with aluminum pipes and rubber elbows so thats pretty sturdy. I would also clean the cooling stack top to bottom to make sure you dont have a plugged radiator/intercooler, you are correct about the high EGT limiting fuel on an ETECH if the temp gets high fuel is reduced dropping power and lowering boost to try to cool the engine and one cause is a dirty cooling stack.
  6. I am just amazed lately how few people know anything about Mack V8 engines, or anything really. I was looking for some E9 parts online and just searched mack v8 then e9 I was astounded at what I found. I pulled up forum after forum and blog after blog talking about mack v8's and the E9 and I have discovered NOBODY knows what the heck they are talking about anymore. I came across one that said the E9 was the big v8 and the E7 was the smaller v8= WRONG. I found one that said the Mack E9 v8 was not a good running engine and that any Cat 3406 could outpull them on a hill and that they were really a gas engine converted to diesel = WRONG. I found one that said the Mack V8 was an ok engine if you were going to run light but any heavy hauls and they fell on their face and you would be better off with a CAT ACERT = REALLY WRONG. I even ran across one that had compared the E9 to the 3208 CAT, yes I said 32-08 not 34-08 I just dont know where these guys get their facts. I had an 84 Superliner with a 440 E9 and it was a beast it would pull anything I could pass any truck I wanted on a hill and pulling a dump trailer guess what I was grossed out all the time, I even got 6.6 mpg it was awesome. I know that any engine has its faults and E9's had head / head gasket issues but guess what, torque the head bolts when you run the overhead (like I was told to by MACK0 and they work fine. I am realizing that you have to take everything with a grain or 5 of salt most people just will not do the required maintenace to a truck let alone an old v8 to keep it in top shape then say its trash when something breaks. I then had another DUH-HUH encounter at Mack of Nashville, I went in to order a new Gold dog and base for a friends truck and was looking at the bulldog magazine it had an article about the new Titan with the MP10. I was told by the new and probably 19 year old parts guy that the MP10 was the baddest engine Mack had ever made, I said hold on there haus I think the E9 has the rights to that sewed up for a few years to which he said no way that makes 605hp. I could see where this was going and asked if he had ever driven a truck, answer = "well no!" Oh well do you know the difference in the way a large mechanical engine runs versus a new electronic emissions engine? "Well the new ones make more horsepower!" I wasnt going to win so I just asked basic Mack questions like, what do you have to have to get a gold Bulldog? and guess what the Mack Parts guy told me. and I quote "the gold bulldog is just an order option for the trucks so it stands out on the chrome grille it doesnt really mean anything" WHAT????? I almost lost it surely someone in the dealership could teach this twerp about what he is selling so he doesnt annoy anyone that actually knows what the heck they are talking about when they come in! I guess I am just ranting but I had to share, I just think BMT.com might be the only place I have found someone that knows anything about a real Mack truck I get so tired of the 18 year old idiots that start these darn threads about things they know nothing about then spread bad info. I for one am glad BMT exists and I know that some of the greatest minds on the subject of Mack trucks are here to help if anyone needs GOOD info, and I want to thank all the members that help others with issues regarding something their local parts guy probably knows nothing about anymore. Ryan B.
  7. Makes me sad to see all those old F models rusting down when there are so few out there on the road and at shows.
  8. I cant find my paperwork from when I bought my pto sorry man keep trying the right combo is out there.
  9. I think its just the grille emblem, the door emblems are not chrome they are a brushed look and the one in the grille fits around the grille bar. I put the Elite grille, the one with no emblems like you have just bought on my old 93 CH it looks great but I went old school and got a hood side emblem, the one that had the old Mack script on the side of the hood on R's and DM's and mounted it in the lower corner like the new grilles it looks sweet and its not just ilike every other new mack. I say try something different you might come up with the next big thing, I swapped the grille bars around and added more to my Granite grilles and now 4 or 5 other trucks here have done the same thing, of course now two companies make custom grilles for the granite. Go check out my pics and you will see what can be done with factory parts to create a custom look. (shameless plug to check out my stuff)
  10. I had problems finding a PTO for my trtxl1070 too I had to use the spacer/adapter also, the second pto I found was the right one the backlash was perfect and I think I had to use 6 gaskets also Ill try to find the paperwork its been several years but I might still have it here I remember it was a chelsea air shift and it went on the small 6 bolt adapter hole and had the chelsea adapter and parker pump, and the flow was 125% at 1500rpm as I recall it ran a dump trailer ok but it could have been faster I got it from Truck Pro in Nashvile TN 615-244-6333. Ill check back after I look for paperwork and see if you found it.
  11. I had the TRTXL 1070 in my 84 Super Liner behind an E-9 you cant match the power to the tranny any better than that setup with 4:42 rears it will pull every trail on the interstate all by itself, I believe the correct trans numbers are the trtxl 1070 is 1:1 and the trtxl 1070B is OD I had looked into replacing my 1070 with the 1070 b to get the OD make sure you replace the screw on air filter on the trans every service they get moisture and crud in the air solenoids and act a fool then you have to take them apart and clean them out and go back together again ( I did it twice takes me a while to get the hint) of course my truck did not have an air dryer it had the screw on air filter on the tranny newer trucks may be set up differently but either way water and crud = bad!
  12. I know that my truck was an 04 Granite with the AI-427 a Mack 310M trans and 4:64 rears with 11R24.5 tires and it would outpull my buddy's 2004 KW W-900 with a Cat C-15 475/500, 8LL and 4:30 rears on the same tires. Like I said it took some complaining but they can make it run
  13. yep as I said in my first post the "Renault sourced Mack E-3", it was a Renault engine that was re badged as a Mack E-3 I just cant find any info on it here or on the web I got all the books on the E-6, E-7 and E-9 I even have books on the TRTXL transmissions but I got nothing on Medium Duty Macks, heck I just found the tune up and rebuild books for an Aset AI engine.
  14. I need info, I am looking into a possible engine swap using the old Renault sourced Mack E-3 but I cant find engine specs anywhere and I have lost all the brochures I used to have apparently. I need to know displacement, cubes, engine length, width, etc. I have found one from a wrecked mid liner and I think its high time someone used one in a pickup truck. I have seen Cummins 8.3 liter installs in Dodge and Chevy trucks and I think I remember the E-3 being a 6 or 7 liter but I cant find it. I would appreciate any info anyone has and if I get to the swap I will definitely keep BMT posted on progress.
  15. I had an 04 Granite with the AI 427 it was a TURD with a capitol T when I go it too , I went to Mack and complained they tinkered with the ECM, went back Irate it was worse they tinkered again, when I went back the third time I talked to the guys that send the reflash for the ECM from PA on the phone with the service advisor here in Nashville.I am pretty sure you can think of what I said long story short I said they could have teh TURD and I was Buying a KW that afternoon, amazingly when I left 2 hours later the truck black smoked and ran like a raped ape. I know a few Mack mechanics here locally and from what I have learned Mack can make the trucks run but they have to be leaned on to do so, the local dealers cant play with the calibration it is emailed to them from PA and flashed to your specific ECM but when they get it right you can make a AI 427 run with a CAT 475, I can vouch for that. I know the AI engines which should be in your 04 if not both have some pretty crazy emissions controls on them to keep them under the EPA Nox standards but thats it its all in the ECM calibration I say go back and ask for help tell them the guys with CAT engines are laughing at you most of the time they will help.
  16. I never heard of a Dodge Mack partnership in the 60's I only know about the Mack Jr's from the 30's I would like to find out if they did have something going on with Dodge then that would be some rare trucks.
  17. there were hundreds of these Granites hauling to and from Kuwait they were all daycabs all identical and they were all pulling over width heavy haul trailers.
  18. From the album: my trucks

I found this F model outsied of Nasiriyah Iraq the buil plates show 11/80 built for export with Kg's not pounds in the capacity boxes.

  20. I just got back from Iraq and have a little more insight into the super singles you speak of in europe . There were tons of european and european inspired trucks and trailers in IQ mostly Mercedes and Volvo tractors and Shmitz and Gorica trailers they were almost eclusively tri axle trailers with 385/65 R22.5's not your average low pro 445/50 R22.5 super singles the same goes for Mixers here they run 445/65 R22.5 tires. The 385/65's and 445/65's are very high load rated tires and are mostly made with cut and chip resistant compounds the 445's are actually a heavier load rating than most common 22.5 duals. I ran 425/65 R22.5's on the front of one of my trucks and 315/65's on another both tri axle dumps and had less issues with them than the dual 14 and 16 ply 22's and 24's I ran on the rear. The super single is a fuel and weight saving tire put them on an alum wheel and you can drop over 150lbs per hub coming from duals so in bulk hauling they are a great way to save weight if you ran them truck and trailer you could save over 1200lbs thats another half ton of cargo pretty good from a tire that gets better fuel mileage and wears longer too. I have done the math and if I buy another dump trailer I plan to get it set up with 385/65R22.5's and will probably put them on the tractor drives too, if I can save over a half ton there and get better mileage it pays in the long run not to mention there are tons of 385's out there used that come off of steer axles on heavy trucks with plenty of life left in them when put on a trailer youd never have to buy new tires again. I just thought Id drop that thought in there everybody take it easy Im back out. Ryan Bassett
  21. Man I can recall doing the same insurance b/s when I bought my granite, I was 28 and had a cdl since I was 18 but there deal is mainly the high number of dump truck claims. I know about the waived cargo ins convoy was talking about it has to do with agricultural hauling and anything coming out of the ground is agricultural per some laws so you can find the loophole and get a waiver to haul dirt and gravel but only out of the ground if it is processed its considered a product from a plant so no more waiver (i.e. crushed stone). I wish you luck I got tired of all the cut throats around here and got rid of my trucks the dump trucking business aint great right now.

  24. Well I am off topic there oops I meant to email those to Trent sorry my Bad! Let me make it better, I have found a possible supplier for Athearn HO scale Mack B and R model trucks I am trying to buy out part of a hobby shop that is closing if I get what I want there are 42 HO scale Mack Dump trucks and Cement Mixers, I think there are 3 tow trucks and other assorted KW's. I will post a list if I get them and let em go cheap right now I have offered $5 a truck they retail for around $25. Ryan
