  1. springvalleymfg.com they make tag axle lits to use a truck steer axle with, i just got a quote for myself last week, beats the hell out of a new one for $6000 when the kit is just over $2000 and I can get a steer axle for $250.
  2. you get to be the one that ID's him on court day!
  3. Leno would know, he has more cars than GM.
  4. The biggest reason a single axle with a steerable tag axle for on highway use hasn't caught on is different weight laws. You would have to have enough tire for your axle to haul a minimum of 18,000# which means at minimum a 315/80r22.5. The other catch 22 is that each states laws are different regarding tag axles, some are legal for 20,000# with a switch inside or out and others are only legal for 12,000# with a switch outside only so it can't be operated from the cab. There would have to be a federal interstate guideline set up with the states ratifying or at the least recognizing the rule for it to even work out nationwide. Just ask anybody that does heavy haul what they can put on their tag axle and theyll say "where?".
  5. The old 76 off hwy 109@I40 in TN was a good one, so was the old Monteagle Truck and auto plaza, nothing but freakin subways and McDonald's at "truck stops" now. I don't think hey should even be called truck stops without 75-80% of their business truck friendly and a subway for food with three sticky tables in the corner and no real parking isn't truck friendly to me.
  6. I like the slightly larger r style fuel tanks on it.
  7. But you guys are missing the big picture here! The newer emissions engines are more environmentally friendly, they burn that ultra low sulfur fuel even. Of course they burn more of it since it has less btu's and they are using egr which raises cylinder temps and kills combustion using more fuel. I don't see the problem I mean come on you have to think about the environment, look at all he noxious fumes and smoke coming from the exhaust on trucks these days, granted they are mostly newer trucks in a regen. But its all about the environment, if you drop the fuel mileage of the trucks by about 20% then add another consumable to the mix (def) and start a fire in the dpf to burn hot enough to burn out trapped soot particles its gotta be better right?
  8. I've wondered if Justin Beaver wasn't Miley Cyrus just playing another character like Hannah Montana. Sure look awful similar and makeup goes a Long way.
  9. Damn I guess it was underground, if anybody had seen what it looked like in daylight they would have sold it a couple years ago.
  10. The 310m and MLR are great transmissions if used properly, I had the 310m in my 04 granite and loved it after I got used to it. I had to have the synchros done in it too, it was still under warranty so that was good. I got it and it was starting the grind between ranges and reverse, talked to the previous driver and he had been beating on it and selecting reverse in neutral before the truck stopped. I never had an issue again remembering to stop completely before pre selecting fwd or reverse and always pre selected range shifts. I think these transmissions get a bad rap from drivers that do exactly what they are not supposed to do then they call it a crap tranny.
  11. Nice work she's gonna be a head turner.
  12. Am I crazy or is that a pair of chopped R model doors leaning on that pallet rack? Oh yeah, great save there on the cab and hood good luck with the build.
  13. Just have to send some measurements and pics to a couple vendors and see what they say, I dont have an R handy to get that stuff. If you can get a couple pics of the original and the measurements together Ill send it to Mike @ Chrome Country and go hang with him to get some info. He will be at the tractor pull with me friday the 31st and saturday the 1st and Ill have the computer with me so we could look at it then. Ryan B.
  14. TN most dumps are triaxles with 18-20k steer, 18-20k tag and 44-46k rears most with 385 or 425 floats on the steer, 11r22.5's on the tag and 11r24.5's on the drive and 16' bodies.
  15. Hmmm, somthing alone these lines in an MH maybe.........
  16. Im still pondering about a 230-240" wheelbase MH tri axle heavy haul truck with some floats on the front, I may have to try to draw me something up just to see what it would look like, damn I got too much running thru my head.
  17. Remember most of those european trucks are actually single axles with tag axles so there is no added electronic traction control changing the pressure on the front rear axle and it can be raised when empty for added fuel savings. Im guessing the electronics are a big part of the price tag and most are probably speced out with a locking differential which ads cost, whereas the traditional 6x4 road tractor just has a power divider not both power divider and axle lock.
  18. interesting, Ive been wondering when a report would come out on the 6x2 idea, seems odd to me there is more tire wear since you are not powering the front rear axle spo there is no torque scuff. however I could see more steer tire scuff if there is mopre weight on the front rear and more drive tire wear due to it being the only axle used to provide tractive effort. Still it seems like a 2+ percent fuel savings over a 5-10 year truck life would more than pay for the added initial cost of $1000-$2000 and the added tire wear. If your trucks travel 100,000miles a year at 5 mpg thats 20,000 gals, @$4/gal thats $80,000 a year for fuel, if it made a .5mpg difference that same truck would use 18181gal of fuel @$4 thats $72727 a year for fuel, then add the additional 400-600# of freight or added mpg benefit from a lighter combination and I see some money to be saved, at least $7000/year per truck with the added tire cost.
  19. Awesome work as always Pawel, keep it up so you can start mine.
  20. $11,000 may seem like a lot but be glad you werent rebuilding an E9, last I knew of a shop doing was twice that for all reman heads and Mack parts.
  21. Oh and heres a Mack bus someone already converted to a motorhome, pretty cheap for the rarety of it in my mind.http://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-mack-bus-/111260236328?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19e7a07a28
  22. I lied, they were made by Busch, I found the ad in an old Walthers catalog, catalogs newer than the late 90's only list the Renault version.
  23. I had one of those in HO scale, made by Herpa I think, looked identical to their Renault version and neither had badging so either could be labelled mack or Renault with the right decals.
  24. "unheardof.....Especially on the back of a Peterbilt" thats cause they cant haul it without breaking crossmembers, the one behind the cab mainly.
  25. What time you think youll be thru Murfreesboro tomorrow?
