Hendrickson Composolite SCT20 vrs. Watson Chalin Pusher
rsb502 replied to leegsr52's topic in Driveline and Suspension
I like the axle loading weights you got there, just remember, that is a perfectly evenly distributed load and getting exactly 20,000 on the tag, it wont happen, ever. For 300# I dont know the 52's may not be that bad of an upgrade. The brake doesn't make sense, it should be a 16.5 x7 or a 16.5 x8.6" shoe, there isn't really enough room for a longer 7" shoes that I can see but I have had the 8.6" wide shoes before and that would cover the difference in friction area.- 38 replies

Ha, didn't we talk about dealers not knowing weights somewhere recently. I don't get it, what do they tech these guys, if I'm buying a truck to haul by the ton I'm gonna want to know what it weighs.- 38 replies

The ISX is a good engine, the emissions standards killed it, when the ISX came out it was a great engine, got better for the first couple years then came the EPA. I don't think any of the new engines are worth a crap anymore when compared to engines from 2004 back but this is what we've got take it or leave it. The Detroit Series 60,Mack Etech,Cat 3406E and Cummins N14 had reached a level of near perfection pre EPA 2004 if you ask me, they made more lower per liter and lasted longer than ever before. All engine makers were forced to try to adapt current designs to try to meet the new standards and then most started making plans for new engines for the long term, Detroit (Daimler) got it done first and they are reaping the rewards of having what may be the most reliable engine of the current standards. I don't think any of the newer emissions engines are going to meet the reliability and economy standards set by pre 04 engines. The ISX has had teething issues in it current form just like all the rest, Cummins had EGR cooler and turbo issues, Detroit had turbo and injector issues, Cat couldn't get the Acert engines to work without falling apart, Mack and Volvo have been rounds with turbos, injectors and injector cups, they all have their thing but for the 2006 model year the ISX is right in there with the rest.

It'll work, it will have a lower low gear for off road use and the top end rpm will only change a little from the .71 to .73 OD, gotta get the right bell housing and clutch fork for it though, Mack uses an underslung fork and the rear mounts are on the bell housing.

What are the differences and in the new trucks from 44-52 rears? Are the 52 rears still on the same style trunnion or are they on the wide trunnion like the old 58's with the brackets on the outside of the frame? Do you know what the weight difference is from 44-46-52? I ask because I'm curious nobody here goes heavier than 46, most Macks are 44's on Camelback, most other trucks are Eatons with 46 Hendrickson.- 38 replies

The Hendrickson is cheaper? decision made! I have never tried to figure weight distribution on a dump truck because every time you load it the load is distributed differently and in TN we put 74,000 on 18-20k steer, 16-20k tag and 44-46 rears, I have scaled out axle by axle before and it was always close but if the tag is up your gonna be over on your steer and drives anyway, and itll be up off road where its rougher and would help more. I think I was 22-24,000 on the steer and 48-50,000 on the rears with the tag up on a 16' body tri axle Granite, like I said it was different every time, even with the same loader and same material.- 38 replies

Ever forgot to open/close your tailgate?
rsb502 replied to jakebrake86's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Asphalt plants around here are glad to help you remember to close your gate next time by handing you a shovel and pointing at the pile you just left on the scale. I've seen several drivers do it once but never seen anyone do it twice. -

Pawel those are the early button tuck vinyl panels, others know the interior trim levels I'm not sure which they were part of. The seats went right in, I have gone to a mid back bostrom low ride height cloth seat in the 85, it is the same T series just different trim. It gives you more leg room by allowing the seat to slide back farther. -

Damn, I've seen dump trucks do that but never a trailer, they normally flop over before they get that far -

I checked out the Hendrickson stuff at mid America and was impressed, probably more expensive but more than likely lighter and longer lasting than Watson Chalin. 20/20/52 is a bunch of axle, never seen a tri axle with 52's I know of. You gonna run 90,000#? What's the cost and weight difference from 46-52 rears?- 38 replies

"F##K it it's not mine" is the railroad equipment operators motto, just one of the reasons I'm tired of my job.

I've forgotten to latch one and loaded rock, felt like a great big dummy. I also had a pin break on a cylinder and one popped open, was still at the crusher so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. -

Heres some of my 84 model, I put 2005 Granite seats in it and then the guy that bought it from me loaded it with stuff this is not how I kept it but its interior pics from after I sold it. -
Ha, just saw a UPS truck today, the dot number was 021800, then another truck with a 1800000 something number, seems I have had one longer than I thought, theres been over 250,000 since mine.

grrrrrrr, I don't even let people lean on or put their foot on my work truck without hearing about it from me, and I cant stand CSX's crap right now (ready to quit this shit hole).

I agree with Ray, she already has the principal in her head so she would just need the practice and she could be a driver instructor her first day at most trucking companies, oh and shes a freakin cutie pie, she could do her own cutie in a bikini on the car pics -
truck has a bad vibration
rsb502 replied to Keffer inc's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Don't tighten up your gearbox, if your having a vibration its more than likely a balance issue. What kind of vibration, thru the steering wheel, feel it thru the seat? -
Nope not likely, what are they plumbed into and how many lines are there on the other one? If they are ties together does the other side have the same setup? Does the line from the top of this one go to the top of the other one and a T then off into the frame? I'm guessing the raise lower valve is bad but the #1 quick release valve could be bad, hard to tell without Being able to see the plumbing.if this is on the down press bags then the pic you have there the line on top is supply air and the line coming out of the side should go to the air bag. That would mean there was a T somewhere to get one line from the control valve tied into both QR valves.
-
They don't need to look here, they already know who the carry permit holders are.
-
that's a QR2 quick release valve, same thing you would find on service brakes on your non parking brake axles but there would be a line on the other side not a plug, so one line goes to the control valve and the other to the air lower bags? if so swap that valve, take it off and carry it to any truck parts place and they should have one, it doesn't matter pete, kw, mack, international, fleetpride whatever you can get one there.

this should be pretty clear, Chicago IL- no handgun ownership or carry =18.5 murders per 100,000 Washington D.C.-no handgun carry or ownership =13.9 per 100,000 Oakland CA- must prove a need to carry =31.8 per 100,000 Stockton CA- must prove a need to carry =23.7 per 100,000 Houston TX- permit to carry = 10 per 100,000 Nashville TN- permit to carry = 10 per 100,000 las Vegas NV- open carry = 5 per 100,000 seems for big cities its a pretty good chunk safer to cbe allowed to legally carry a gun to me, and I didn't even get into the population of said cities
-
Check this crime list out, use the small arrows at the top of each column to rank in descending order and look at the cities, use, Murder, rape, robbery and burglary, the violent crime statistics are complete b.s. they use the individual departments definitions of violent crime and not a unified set of criteria so one cities violent crime may not be in another, also some departments report violent crimes separately from rape, murder and assaul and others include them so that list is just way off. However the numbers of murders, robberies and burglaries should be pretty solid since they are reported individually tot he fbi and other agencies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_cities_by_crime_rate it shouldn't surprise anyone to see Washington show up in the top 20 or so on several of those lists, amazingly Chicago, a gun free city in a gun free state seems to pop up an awful lot.
