  1. 4700 is overkill, you still only have 6 forward 1 reverse gears to use auto. The low 1st and second reverse are manually selected and torque limited anyway.
  2. You could do silver or white from the body Line just under the windows up over the top and use a red pinstripe to separate the colors and tie them to the color of the frame. Would probably look pretty slick actually, then use silver/white and red for painted on lettering on the black paint on the lower half. Hmmm, I may do some sketching just to see what that would look like this week.
  3. To chop and narrow an r is a ton of work, I'd hate to think how many hours went into that.
  4. Be neat to know if any of them are sitting in the weeds available for restoration.
  5. And 13/18 speed back boxes aren't overdrive they are direct and low, the overdrive gear is in the front box on an Eaton 13/18 the back box allows you to split down half a gear not up. Check the vibrate software link I posted it has all the gear steps for all Eaton transmissions.
  6. Rtlo, the l means low inertia, the o is overdrive, use the link I posted it has em all.
  7. A big dog doing what it was built for, nice.
  8. Wont see that again, at least ive only ever seen 1.
  9. Really need more info to select a gear ratio, tire size, desired road speed what kind of rpm at that road speed? Select a gear based on top gear driving the torque converter will take care of the slow speed stuff unless you just go nuts and get a super high gear, most of the Allison Mack trucks I have seen are 5.02 to 4.42 rears with several using the MP8 coming with 4.64 rears lately and I would think that would be a great gear for them.
  10. You have to hold the brake pedal to hold the truck back with an automatic and a lot of guys are used to selecting a lower gear and using the engine brake in low-low, an Allison with a retarder and an engine brake will hold pretty good I would think from the stuff I have driven.
  11. The 4500 weighs in at 893 with a pto, and 968 with a pto and retarder, the 4700 weighs 1149 with a pto and 1224 wth pto and retarder, the 4700 is 10" longer and 3 quarts more oil capacity also. I have never seen a truck with the 7 speed, all the garbage trucks, buses, fire trucks, concrete trucks and dump trucks I have been around were 5 or 6 speeds. I was looking at the gearing talking with mighty fruit about this check out his post on understanding specs in drivetrain it has road speed versus rpm for different rear gear ratios and tires sizes posted with the 4500 series. I have the rugged duty series brochure right here, the 4500 series has a 4.70 low gear and a .67OD, the 4700 has a 7.63 manually selected low gear but a 3.51 low for automatic use so when driving around the lowest gear you would have is higher than the 4500 series without stopping and selecting the low gear every time, the .64 OD doesn't really offer much difference from the .67 OD in the 4500, the rpm versus road speed would be like 30rpm difference with 11r22.5 tires. your 4700 series low second reverse gear is only offered with torque limiting and your first three gears are also torque limited in the 4700 your max torque input of 1850# is only rated for gears 4-7, in the 4500 series its rated for 1850 in gears 2 -6.
  12. the 4500 series is lighter and is plenty, you have to remember the torque converter, you gear it right and you wont need the 7 speed or the two reverse gears, they drive like a pickup truck with an auto give it more throttle it goes.
  13. I dug some of my truck drawings out of a box and scanned em in, I know the CL isn't perfect(didn't realize I drew a CH hood till too late). I did the SuperLiner when I was looking for a chassis to rebuild, I wanted to put a Rogers Tub body on one but never found the right truck. The Freightshaker was for a friend that just bought a black one like in the pic. The KW was when an old boss decided he might buy a couple T800's so I did my version to show him what I though we should get(we never got any).
  14. Good to see your progress, I dunno about red though, ever truck on the road is white, red or black seems like. I would keep the black with red frame or use a metallic blue or maybe even like a green with the red frame. As for the heat get some insulation in the ceiling and it'll stop that, or paint it two tone with silver on top and blue or green, or whatever on the bottom.
  15. I haven't but mine is still 24 volt, I have pondered swapping to a high torqe 12volt.

  17. Awwwww, dirty pool mister! I do like to see Pete's going away but not 359's they're going the way of a Superliner I like the old trucks from pretty much every manufacturer just can't stand the newer ones....uh from pretty much every manufacturer.
  18. You would barely notice the difference between a 4.34/4.42 only about 40rpm.
  19. Ok
  20. Yeah it makes no sense to me but they say its different, I'd swap the shifter and run the 13 like an 18 since you would rarely use the deep reduction in low range, I like splitting the top two gears more than anything.
  21. Its because of the lower torque capacity of the gears and bearings in low range, Eaton can build a 13speed cheaper than an 18. I asked an Eaton rep about 2 or 3 years ago at MidAmerica why they didn't just make the 18 and sell it with either shifter as a 13 or 18 convertible. He told me they made it cheaper by using the 9 speed components for low range and heavier components for high range to handle the split so it was both cheaper and lighter to build a 13. I asked how much cheaper and lighter and he couldn't answer than question, all the info I could find showed a 15-20# difference in the 13 and 18 speed Eaton.
  22. Well at least those are loose rocks, its bedrock here, I doubt I could dig more than 2 feet anywhere on my 23 acres.
  23. Well looks like I'll miss ya this time, gotta warn us a little earlier and I can get Mike and Staxx together and we can hit Hooters or somethin.
  24. I'm only about 45 miles from downtowndowntown Nashville, just southeast of Murfreesboro.
