  1. 10-4 bbig, a lot of folks are going to 22.5's round here too. The 11r22.5 on an Alcoa wheel vs a low pro 24.5 on an alcoa is the same height 42" and the 24.5 is actually 2.6# lighter by the books, lol. I always liked the 42" tall tire but the shorter sidewall on the 24.5 seems more stable to me, just personal preference really. On the subject of the Eaton 13 speed being a double od, well its not what you think. The term double od came from way back when some mechanics did gear flips to trucks to get the top two gears to be od, creating a .73 8th and .62 9th, the hi-lo split on the side of the shifter is actuality an underdrive or deep reduction back box. When your in hi on the splitter the gear ratios are the same as the 9 speed used to make up the 13, when you split it to lo your actually putting that gear thru a real reduction. Back box the get a half gear step. The Eaton low is 12.44 I think and the od is .73, the mack is also 12 something but .71 od so a little higher on top, the mack 313/318LR have 16.42 lo and .71 od.
  2. Great find, see if you can find someone that does on site aluminum polishing. Just having all the aluminum polished out will make a huge difference and I bet you will scratch the wheels off your to buy list.
  3. Grrr, damn pos politicians need to have to desk with their own policies but they are too good for all that and get their own personal govt paid healthcare.
  4. Instill think your Gearing it too high, you get the rpm too low with your 2.56 rears and you'll lug and it won't pull for shit and fuel mileage will suck. Ask guys here what they are running and go with that. I also don't like the m drive but more for the "0" tolerance internals that will make the trans unrepairable only replaceable for a premium fee. I like bbigrigs set up of the MP8 445C, 13 speed 3.55 rears, only change I would make is low pro 24.5 rubber.
  5. Wasn't there a guy in Chicago a couple years ago that had a couple R's or RD's for sale that had never been worked?
  6. That power wagon is my favorite, those things are just bad ass old school trucks.
  7. Look like "D" models to me!
  8. Mack still has a very few pieces of the manifolds, if I can ever get a spare engine to do mock up work or get mine in a shop and take it apart for a while I'm gonna make tubular mailnifolds for the e9. I have a machine shop ready to laser cut my flanges already, we did the cad drawings last year now I just need stuff.
  9. Good job, looks like your in bidness
  10. I'm still trying to get one of you guys from down under to ship me a couple pairs of those white mud flaps.
  11. poor old Vinny would have a stroke!
  12. Heck look at camelback suspension, when was that started and what has really changed there, it would still be easily recognizable to a Mack mechanic from the early days.
  13. Don't forget the last RD's were Aset engine trucks with all electronic dashes and the gauges and switches were all different, lol. Not a lot changed in 38 years for sure.
  14. Its just around the corner again, I'll be attending the mid america show Saturday as always, who else is going? I guess high noon at the Mack booth for a photo op again can't hurt either.
  15. For someone with an excavation company paying to haul equipment is gonna happen sooner or later. However when your not completely covered up and have time to move it with your own truck or need a piece moved asap being able to just load it up and move it is a big plus. Most of the people I know in that business have a truck and move their own stuff most of the time just because they can move it on their schedule not when the truck can get to it. Also if he buys a dump trailer he can not only use the truck to haul equipment but haul dirt and rock as well so in my mind its a huge asset to the company.
  16. Awww, my 04 was good! Lol
  17. He was Slummin!, damn old red oval drivers!
  18. Its a different torque rating from one to another engine and the clutch trans driveline and some rears have different torque ratings and using the minimum keeps costs down, to use an eaton 18913 transmission (1800# torque rating)instead of a 16913 (1600# rating) costs more and with the lower torque rating its considered a waste. I would order a new truck with the heaviest driveline clutch and trans available for a couple reasons, one you will be hard pressed to snap it off road, two if you uprate the engine or haul reakly heavy youll never overload the drivetrain.
  19. The 05 CHN would be an aset AC427 engine so, external egr and variable geometry turbo, the aset AI engines were a little more reliable at first but after the updated parts are installed the AC engines are great performers, oh and I believe Rochester Fuel Injection has bigger injectors for em!, lol.
  20. Sounds like the perfect truck for a small operator really. the 14 steer is the heaviest you can get in a CH, the 44 rears are perfect for lowboy and dump work, the 427 is the highest torque rise spec and the rest.....well its a MACK,DUH!
  21. The pre scr engines like the 09 your looking at are pretty solid other than the 7th injector issues as stated before and injector cup issues. If its had the updates to all of that stuff it should be pretty decent. If not all you have to do is go to mack with the Vin and ask what updates or campaigns have been completed and what is available and go from there. The 425, 13 speed and 4.17 rears should pull great, I doubt you'd notice a lot of difference in uprating to 44. As long as the clutch trans and driveline are rated for the torque you can have mack update it all the way to 485 or 505 now, I doubt they're rated for the torque though. I'd say you found a pretty well specs truck for local work that should do a good job for ya but I can't see it from my house and there is a lot to be said for what a truck looks like.
  22. Awesome, get a video of it running up on YouTube when you can, oh and More Pics! Lol congrats
  23. You can get 9" wheels in several offsets, some are flat "float" style wheels while others are hard to tell from a std wheel, biggest difference is thickness and they all have small hand holes.
  24. Yeah I've seen taller legs on that style 5th wheel, I think you've got a 3" and they make two taller if I remember right. I wasn't thinking about bottom dump I was thinking and dump pivot so no worries there.
  25. Call your local Mack dealers parts dept with the model, year and Vin, they'll be able to tell you. If they can't help the Mack museum is the only other one I could think of to call.
