  1. if that Freightshaker has a 12L Detroit its gonna weigh about 16,000, add 5k for the trailer you get 21k that is probably good on that trailer maybe 1k over but not more than I have hauled. However loaded like it is they have more like 60% of the weight of the truck behind the axles and the added forces of the wind on the back of that sleeper with the side fairings keeping it in, then add the height of 14'6" and..........., seems if they died in a fiery crash on the trip we wouldnt be losing much, Im just sayin. Oh the turbo thing is actually an issue of the turbo spinning with no lubrication, not spinning backwards, when the engine is off so is the turbos oil supply and most turos dont have bearings they have bushings and they actually float on a thin layer of oil that being why they need to be balanced properly, no oil means metal to metal contact.
  2. Even though the numbers above say otherwise their defense segment is what has kept them alive this long, every HET, HEMMTT, PLS,etc in the US and other countries inventory is built by OshKosh and they just sold a bunch of new M1070 HETs to the Army as of this year. Of course they're powered by an Acert Cat nownot the tried and proven Detroit 8V92 so they'll be back in for rebuild real soon.
  3. Well that would be the way it would happen if this was an isolated incident just trying to get home, however those that do this every day seem to be immune from the law I see em all the time and they just seem to keep on going without consequence.
  4. Seems I remember a Freightliner condo being around 13' tall, wouldn't a 3' tall trailer get that closer to 16'? I won't comment on the weight distribution its been said.
  5. I didn't think of myself as a hippie, more confused and REALLY fun at parties, I get a lot more rest now. I don't know about anybody else but I may be able to top the hair in the creeper. While I was in my long hair, strip club going, Goth girlfriend having phase I also had both ears and my eyebrow pierced. I was rolling out from under the rear of a new Freightliner leaned up to keep my hair out of the wheels and wouldn't ya know it that eyebrow ring was the perfect size to get hung on a machine screw sticking out of the back of the rear light bar. I actually came off the creeper on that one. After stopping the bleeding and getting my tears wiped off I thought, ya know what that's what I get for letting a chick talk me into a fucking piercing, they didn't last much longer after that.
  6. Go to a Borg Warner turbo dealer for a turbo it'll be half price and its a better turbo, I can cross reference your p/n to a Borg number if you have it off your turbo.
  7. If you stare into the sun 5 or 10 minutes a day it won't bother you much longer! Lol
  8. You can tell the two stick trucks in the video pretty good with that, shift, shift, shift..........shift, shift, shift........ shift, etc.
  9. Eastern US has some good hills shouldn't be too hard to find a good route, Id bring the Superliner to an eastern run just to hear the V8 on a long hill.
  10. Sound good Bullhusk, there are a few people in the glider game around here, Fitzgerald being the big one, they get new rolling gliders and build them out with Detroit factory reman engines and Eaton reman transmissions and give a heck of a warranty. I think my buddy said a new Freightliner Coronado with a 500hp Series 60 and an 18 speed was $120,000 so about $30-40 grand cheaper than new with no emissions and theyre about 600# lighter too. If Mack had a CHN Rawhide Glider set up for an ETECH that would be a nice truck, Id look at em awful serious if I went back to the road, Id look at a Granite Dump glider set up for an ETECH too.
  11. I had long hair in a previous life and was working at a Truck shop as a Mechanic, have you ever run over your hair on a creeper and got it tangled in the wheel? Not Good! Just made that good hard push on the fuel tank to roll myself out from under the truck and YANK! I cried.
  12. in a pull under throttle the puff limiter is all the way off, if it was messed up it wouldnt run well but there wouldnt be any excess fuel smoke either. If the air filter was stopped up and the fuel filters were good it would get extra smoke, if the fuel filters were clogged it would smoke less, if the smoke limiter wasnt moving from the idle position it would smoke less, if the lift pump were going out it would smoke less, if the injection pump was taking a dump it may smoke more, it would definitely run worse, just out of curiosity you havent gotten it real hot have you? If you inadvertantly got the cylinder temp too high on a long pull with a load as I remember you saying you had isues with in the past the tips on the nozzles may be melted and just drizzling fuel instead of atomizing it, thus making it smoke more and run worse, actually thats the first place Id check after the obvious external stuff on a Mechanical engine.
  13. Macks seem to make drivers more courteous, its easy to do when you dont have to worry about whether or not your truck will move or shut down the next time you hit the throttle.
  14. heres the other one...http://www.ebay.com/itm/200919192515?item=200919192515&viewitem&vxp=mtr
  15. Got one similar coming heres the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/Certified-Dirty-Idle-Sticker-not-Clean-Idle-Sicker-/200926029614?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ec81fe72e
  16. youy might post the hub, brake drum p/n for those that are contemplating a swap on their trailers, it may not be the same but definitely a starting point. Youll be glad you did it in the next year for sure.
  17. Got some pics of new Granites at Rogers Manufacturing waiting on dump bodies, the orange truck was super heavy duty, 20k front on 445 floats, 65 rears on 12r24's and an Allison automatic.
  18. Maybe just a smaller stick!
  19. Ok now that would sell!
  20. The Coronado is basically a long hood Columbia, has the same cab, so does the Century. I agree with all new trucks having their issues and I haven't had a new Mack since 06 so I guess I can't really vouch for anything newer than that. I just have a hard time thinking about paying $150k for a truck that WILL have issues. Actually me and a friend had the conversation about buying an older etech equipped CHN and just rebuilding the whole truck. If you do the math it actually comes out cheaper to buy a million mile CH and put ReMack drive train and new interior in it, that's probably what I would have to do if I had to have another truck. Of course theirs no loans for that and you can't lease it to anyone with an age limit but for an owner operator with some cash it seems feasible.
  21. Just out of curiosity how different are the E6 2 valve springs from a 673? PAI lists 2v springs and they may actually have them for a 673 and just not list them in their parts book, PAI spring kit p/n is ESS-8950 it includes one inner and outer spring and a rotator the lock is an EVL-8210. cxall PAI and see if they offer them 770-822-1000. Did you try Winrock Truck Parts? 800-676-0052 ask for Bill but John or Casey can help, also try Southeastern Equipment at 706-798-7500 they have a ton of 707 and 673 parts and do rebuilds. Good luck.
  22. How bout some new pics of the B with the new shiny stuff on the hood, please?
  23. WHAT! Ok I have been around Freightshakers for a while both in the seat and the shop andthey are noisy, rattly, the dash rattles and falls apart, the chassis plumbing and wiring sucks and they drive like crap. Best Freightliner ever in recent years was the FLD120 bother set forward and set back axle models, best driving shaker I've ever been in. Now Mack on the other hand has a solid interior from the R model up, excellent plumbing and wiring and all have driven great. I hate to break any bubbles but ANY newer trucks are gonna have issues the fact is all the manufacturers are trying to build more with less and it shows. I still couldn't go Freightliner over Mack even at a $10k savings id still go Mack, the only possible substitute for me would be a KW they are also solid trucks that drive well.
  24. This is tha best thread ever, even with a soup nazi!
