  1. Hey if thats all thats changed in the last 60+ years were good, LOL!
  2. if he actually does have almost all the chrome theres a couple grand there not to mention the thermodyne and the duplex, oh and the B model truck too! I spent every last penny I had getting a tractor so I got no truck money or I woulod go get it and bring it to Watts show for someone to get. Actually if someon wants it I might still be able to get it to PA during Watts show for them. (gotta get to work on the lowboy now)
  3. Somebody needs to get this one, its cheap if they arent just plain bsing in the add. http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/3879192290.html
  4. what is the year, model and serial and I can price out a rebuildkit for the valve, its just seals and springs, some o rings and some back up seals and your done. Its more of a pain to get off than to rebuild really, worst part is losing the oil cause there is no shut off on any Ive worked on, get a cap and plug ready and try to save some or get a good clean drum and get the machine blocked up high enough to let it drain.
  5. I would go for the full CDL, you already have to take the test if your gonna get it so you might as well be certified ( or certifiable), surely someone there can get you a trailer to play with, the only other thing youll need is a medical card to get it done and then every two years you get your medical card again and every 5 you renew your license and if you feel the urge you can go drive for someone part time. You may have to get your insurance swapped around to pull a trailer, my insurance allows me to pull anyones trailers but if you have antique insurance you better check.
  6. Thats a big reason I havent made any more videos in the SUperliner, the damn camera kept wanting to focus on the pitted out windshield not what was ahead.
  7. How many years ago it looks like they are putting up or taking down a sign behind the truck and with those wheels and tires it aint newer.
  8. Ha a non-cdl, never heard of such a thing in TN, you can get a class D for driver as in to drive ANY personal vehicle, a class D with an F, or for hire endorsement, that does anything under 26,000lbs commercial carrying less than 15 passengers, a class C for commercial under 26,000 lb carrying more than 15 passengers- you have to have it to get a P-passenger, and S-school bus endorsement to drive anything over 15 passengers under 26,000lb, then the class B- trucks over 26,000lb trailers under 10,000lb, then the class A tractors with trailers over 26,000 and all the endorsements therefore. I however have never heardo of anybody that got a non-commercial cdl to drive an RV or personal vehicle, even though most are well over 26,000, actually in TN you dont even have to have a CDL to drive a farm truck even if its a tractor trailer hauling agricultural over 80,000lb. some states get screwy and most cops have no idea of the actual rules so you get a different answer every time you ask the question and most of the laws are written so as to be up for interpretation so they can hang one in you when they want to.
  9. Yeah no anerobic compound will harden in oil but several are oil insensitive meaning they are not supposed to deteriorate in contact with oil after set. Good luck with it.
  10. Yep, nice looking project truck there, good length too.
  11. Got it, try loctite brand 271 or 2047, 271 is for fasteners up to 1", 2047 is for fasteners over 7/8" the STD loctite 242/243 or 262/263 is really only good up to about 1/2" over that it doesn't have enough density to fill the threads so it won't last an large bolts. I have 271 on the truck and use it on 1" bolts on vibratory tampers it holds up well there, I learned the lesson about the 262 the hard way having to rebuild a part after it failed on 1" bolts. Hope that helps good luck with it.
  12. Yeah, they still have that old RS700L v8 truck that's been under water about 4 times down on the river advertised for $5500. I called and offered em $4500 and the guy on the phone said they wouldn't let it go for under $6000. I made a trip down there years ago to look at s couple RD Tri axles and after that waste of a day of my life and $100 in fuel I haven't been back.
  13. Midwest Diesel says they have em in stock and same day shipping number is 888-866-3406
  14. I like the KW A model wrecker that thing is awesome, anybody else spot the flat black looking R model behind the wrecker?
  15. I drove an 84 Brigadier with a NTC Cummins 290 under the dash, we had to re seal the valve covers and you did the back one from in the cab thru the hole the doghouse covered up, it was overfull of engine and I'm sure a 3406 was the same way.
  16. There's a company that advertises cat parts in several truck and equipment sale papers but I don't have one here, they have 3406E pans in stock I'll try to pick up a tractor house tomorrow and get a name and number.
  17. Sounds like the threads in the carrier are worn, if it were me I would go back with the Mack studs and use locktite........damn I can't remember the number I'll get it in the morning, anyway use a thick locktite on the studs, then use nordlock washers under the nuts. Also if its moving enough to do this then the bolts holding the bottom of the bracket to the carrier are loose, I would use the same thing there with new bolts. I have securement issues all the time at work on RR equipment and I have found the Nordlock brand two piece lock washer far superior to a split washer. I also have about 10 different thread lock products on my truck each better suited to a certain issue. Most people only think of red or blue locktite but trust me there's a lot more too it. I'll get the number of the locktite in the morning and post again when I can, Nordlocks can be purchased from Fastenal in a kit or by individual sizes.
  18. Well you guys are just catching up to the rest of the country now, in TN a tandem is good for 66,000 on state roads and federal bridge law chart for fed. Roads (interstates) Tri axles are good to 74,000 and quads 80,000 secondary. The fed bridge on the interstate for my 04 Granite was only 56,500 ( everybody runs secondary road weights till they get caught).
  19. Nice C130, oh wait there's other pics here, I mean ill take the one in the last pic anywhere she wants to go she don't need a bus ticket.
  20. I doubt its the trans, sounded like you could hear the bounce in the exhaust, any chance that hill was slick and you were slipping a wheel causing some hop in your camelback suspension ?
  21. Yep pretty much all truck makers mount the front axle qr2 on the crossmember forward of the axle. I have seen some mounted on radiator brackets and one bolted to a bumper before but the crossmember is oe style and probably the safest bet. Make sure you run equal length lines from each side if one is longer the short side will activate faster and the long side will release slower and you'll get brake drag and possible control issues on slick roads.
  22. Wow they sold 1,336 trucks, hmm Daimler would never drop such a profitable in demand product offering to make room for more market share with their other brands............can anyone say Sterling? and they sold three times the truck Western Star does a year. Oh well I see another Twinkie situation developing here!
  23. I put em in my 84 myself because the last time I had it done they leaked, I used 3M weather strip adhesive in both sides of the channel and it sealed right up.
  24. Ever notice how my pics are 50+ feet away from the truck, its a good 50 footer! theres a lot of chips on the back of the sleeper and under all the doors and my roof is peeling pretty bad too, I got on it with some scuff pads and some rattle can to keep the rust away for now.
