(the compressor doesnt actually stop but the pressure on the unloaders from that 1/4" line keep the valves open so it doesnt build pressure, the compressor is running whenver the engine is) just to clarify for my sake my OCD got me there.
-
by quick release do you mean a push lock air fitting? is it a 1/4" line? does the line go to the governor? Sounds like a governor issue soIm guessing the unloader line 1/4" line on the governor is leaking and it has to hold pressure to build air. Just out of curiosity did the truck build air ok before installing the new compressor? if so and you re connected the 1/4 line to the compressor that is routed to the governor (if its not mounted to the compressor) you may have gotten some trash in the line, wherever the governor is it has a 1/4" line from the tank telling it when to engage the unloaders in the head of the air compressor, once the pressure on the tank side of the governor drops to a point that the unloader pressure can move the spring loaded spool in the governor the pressure from the unloader line is bled out the exhaust port and the compressor buids air again until the pressure from the tank equals the pressure on the unloader side and stops again.

Go back and read again I said I had no real basis, but it was said these were sitting in a junkyard not a trucking companys back lot for parts, and even if he were using them for parts it seems 5 MH's might be a little much maybe someone else might like to save one of them from rusting into the grass there, why not sell it. Also I said "people that let things rot like that or scrap them as opposed to selling them to someone that wants them make me mad" is the owner of that lots name included in the above? or was it a generalized statement about letting things rust versus saving them? I never said, "seeing those pics makes those guys assholes" I actually stated I dont know them then there was a comma and the rest of my statement. I wasnt knocking your friends, I was knocking the practice of letting rare vehicles rot to the ground, if they are using them for restorations good for them, then they are not letting them rot to the ground just because they dont want to sell them they actually serve a purpose and I am ok with them serving to get other trucks back running. The End.

Maybe one of these days I can get mine painted, don't see it anytime soon but a guy can dream.

That looks like one bad B right there, I've never seen one with dual breathers until now, I like it, I like it a lot. -
What is it I need to clean my monitor its all blurry, LOL! Theres a guy here locally that did a 3 year restoration on a K100 and a Reefer trailer, I dont know of any working cab overs around here though, Ill see if I still have pics of the K Dub somewhere.

You can make that drive in 3 days with a co driver helping out (or if you get a doctored toothpick or two), and there arent any toll roads you "have" to run that direction I can think of, maybe in CA but I dont remember any, Id drive it if it was me but I like road trips like that, itll give you a whole new perspective on what your day to day routine is. Or you could just Bribe Ray to go get it, probably cheaper to drive it back though he probably thinks the same way I do of CA. p.s. I dont recommend the toothpick, theyll hurt ya I dont think my pulse is back to normal yet and that was 13 years ago!

One thing about a rear engine transit bus, they are actually fairly well balanced because the engine is behind the rear axle and the fuel tank is behind the front axle, I would guess it weights about 24-26,000 empty that right in there with a 40' Blue Bird. It should go on the lower deck and leave the upper deck for a partial but I doubt you could get anything else on the bottom with it, I would load it backwards just because out of fuel and no driver the rear axle will be about 2,000 heavier than the front so your weight should be good, then just load a partial on top and rock on back. Ray I think California would put up a road block and not even let you enter to turn around running a Mack V8 truck, too much power for them, or was it smoke, eh whateva. If you really want it and your thinking about driving it make sure its running and driving and has good tires, then get your paperwork in order or CA wont even let you leave with it, could have it hauled across the state line then hop in and drive back.
-
You need the weight, overall length, overall height and and the wheelbase to help accurately gage what it will take to move it, I would guess its an old city bus being a gmc fishbowl Im guessing 96" wide 10' tall and 35' long but that is again a guess. I dont know it may fit on the bottom deck of a stepdeck and that would be the way to get it back if you could theres plenty of step decks out there, Im thinking a std 48' step deck is 38-42" tall to the lower deck and there should be 10-12' of upper deck so that makes it 36-38' of lower deck to get the bus on, and if it hangs over tha back your still ok if it doesnt hang too far to make it over length. I would guess that would be the cheapest way to get it back too, then you just have to find somewhere to unload it onto a dock by driving it off or use some blocking and ramps to keep it from high centering.

So from the looks of those pics if they arent going to sell any of them they are just planning to let them rust to the ground, gee that makes much more sense than to let someone that will take care of the trucks and either use them or show them have at em. I dont know the guys there and I have no real basis, but people that let things rot like that or scrap them as opposed to selling them to someone that wants them make me mad, thats where most of our Icons went in this country, the scrap pile!

Mack E7 Mechanical- low oil pressure issue.
rsb502 replied to Okiki Olufokunbi's topic in Engine and Transmission
how much pressure does it have at speed on the road, say 1500-1750rpm? I cant remember what my 93 made at idle but it wasnt much after it warmed up. -
Good ol Baskin, had some friends drive from Murfreesboro to his lot to look at dump trucks, I told em not to waste the trip but they found out the hard way. Baskin gets some neat ol Mack's but he's a high priced junk merchant fur sure.

That's awesome everybody needs an old truck to drive around, it looks great. I take the Superliner to town every other week, I may take it to the cruise in these Friday now that I'm thinking about it. -
We have several 2 to 4 sylinder ari cooled Deutz engines running in railroad machinery at CSX, they are reliable engines but the smaller ones are cheap enough when one goes donw you just swap the whole engine out and go for another couple years or more, I found a spike puller with a Deutz last year that had over 6000hrs on the meter and was still going dont know how long itll last but thats longer than our 4B Cummins engines last till they have to get pumps rebuilt most of the time. Of course now we are going to electronic Deere power for our equipment and so far its a 50/50 thing some are crap and some run great but most are under powered compared to the older emchanical engines, they are replacing 6V71 detroits and 5.9/6.7L Cummins with a 6.8 liter Powertech Deere and its not turning out real great so far they are way underpowered for our applications, most run two or more large hyraulic pumps and when you load the hydraulics they pull the engines way down quick.

O bummer is destroying this country but he is not the only one to blame, it takes all the other morons in Washington that will say or do anything to stay in office to get to this point, we cant afford to run the government without cuts but we can give millions free cell phones, housing, food, healthcare, and just plain money for nothing, they have extended every pay out like unemployment, housing and food stamps but not done anything to bring more money in, now we are going to just give Africa 9 billion dollars? wtf man? If we didnt have enough money to avoid the supposed fiscal cliff and sequester, our infrastructure is crumbling but we dont have the money to maintain it properly so how can we give another country 9 billion dollars? We have to get the message thru that we are done giving hand outs and we are done supporting the rest of the world until we get our shit straight here at home and the only way to do that is to clean house in washington and start over with term limits to keep it from happening again. Any legislator that votes for anything they said they were against, any time the politicians procrastinate for well over a year and wont reach an agreement leaving the rest of us holding the bag needs to be booted immediately and any time there is an election with 126% voter turn out it needs to be voided and done again till its right there is absolutely no way on this earth that whole districts voted for one candidate but if you read the vote tally there were several all Obama counties in several states and several states with well over 120% voter turn out, that is not possible but they just swept it under the rug and went on with business as usual, again wtf? I am a single white male with a job, I get 0 in help from the government and never have, I have never drawn unemployment, I have never gotten free healthcare or money for food or a phone or car insurance, but I pay in more money each year in taxes than I and many other made in a year when I started working oh and thats well over $20,000 in case you were wondering. I even got to pay more in taxes this year, I wasnt supposed to, the politicians said I wouldnt have to, that I was under the limit but nope I pay more, enough that my 3% raise on the 1st of July wont get me back to what I netted last year, so whats so good about the current administration again? Im sorry I just dont see anything good coming my way any time soon from the fed, ever since this batch of fools got in there Ive been getting screwed harder and harder every year and It makes me sick, I have contemplated quitting my job and going back to driving a truck for someone else and getting some tax releif and oh yeah guess what if my math is right I would net the same amount if I made 30k less a year, so how does that compute? OK rant over I gotta ignore this crap now before I get really ticked off.

Thanks for the info, I'll try to get with him tomorrow. -
Ha, we had to roll a bus in Iraq to get certified for Combat recovery. I remember reading the paperwork thinking why the hell do we need to know how to upright a bus in a war zone? It was fun though we used a 5 ton wrecker for the catch truck and a HET tractor for the pull truck, we uprighted a full system too (Mercedes tractor and a tank trailer) I don't know what I'll do with the knowledge now but hey I still remember enough to get into trouble I bet.

Thankfully International has given up on the Maxxforce 13/15, they were wearing their warranty dept out, so now they're back to the ISX 13/15 I don't know how the new ones do on the road but the early ISX was a beast that had some success with reliability and power.

Outback at Allentown
rsb502 replied to vision386's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Yeah the centrifical clutches on auto shift trucks aren't the best for low speed work. I was helping move some new Freightliners locally with eaton autoshifts, it was a pain in the butt to get it to slip under the trailer smoothly I would hate to try to use one on a job site. Allison's are freaking sweet down low, I've used buses and trucks with em and they were all smooth to drive. -

Ha, I used to take the window crank handles off and put em back on so that they were forward or up with the window down and cracked to the bottom of my vent visors, I got tired of the bruise in the shape of the little knob on the handle in the side of my knee cap! LOL! -

Nice one though! Something about the look of the spokes on those older trucks just makes em look mean. -

Not trying to come off Cocky, more of a laughing to myself when typing because of a recent event with Staxx wanting to use a RW cab on his RD and realizing it was gonna be A LOT of work to swap that corner. I definitely dont know all things Mack but I learn something new about them every time I check in here. I have worked on some buses in the driveway for sure, and a couple shops, and some gravel parking lots in some yards even(man Im glad I dont mess with buses anymore). I hope I can help some folks with the stuff I do know and if I dont know it ill try to figure it out and help where and when I can, and if I get curious about something Ill post a question, I like the fact that BMT seems to be a positive place for the most part, obviously you cant see sarcasm on the screen so it can be a little tricky at times but hey such is the way of the computer. I was gone from BMT a while , partly not wanting to be reminded of the 84 after I sold it and partly overseas, as far as posting all day goes, this is the only thing keeping me from sleeping on the job some days, LOL! I still dont know if I like a smart phone but it gives me something to do sitting in the middle of nowhere on the side of the tracks waiting on a machine to get done so I can do my thing. Sad to hear about selling the RD though I think if I went back to DUmp trucking and I couldnt find an RW I would probably try to find a nice RD, I like a Granite but the R cab just fits me like an old shoe I guess, if I had a granite, and an RD outside I would probably take the RD 9 times out of 10 but as a friend has said you cant get a driver to stay in an RD when there are newer trucks around.
