  1. Thanks J. I've already found several good ideas.
  2. Think I'm gona make the repairs. I'll probably refab the tarp shaft and repair the upper arms. I'm not the best welder or fabriacater but the guy down the road I use can do just about anything. I'd rather pay him than buy something. Thanks, next subject: pintle hitche ideas. I'll make a new topic thread for that one.
  3. Thanks Joe, I wasn't for sure if they made them or if they were aftermarket on their beds. They aren't far from me. I'll check with them in the morning.
  4. Hello, as most of you know I just bought myself a 79 RD dump. I'm trying to bring a few things up to par and one of them is the tarp system. This my first dump so I'm not familar with this stuff....lol. But my upper arms and axle are in need or repair of replacement. I was wondering which to do. They are the square tube type and I've did some searching but didn't have much luck. Tarps aren't hard to find but the arms and axle parts are what I'm having trouble with. Not even sure what brand etc. mine are. I would also like some recomendations on a tarp. Photos below..thoughts?
  5. LOL....ok. Talked with the guy I purchased from..Said he forgot about swapping the engine... said not long after he had it the eninge started using oil and made a loud noise like it was about to come apart. He didn't have time to mess with it so he found a firetruck engine with around 20,000 miles on it and swaped it out. At this point, who knows. I still have a great truck and the guy did offer to give me my money back...lol
  6. Just talked with the second owner, the one before the guy I bought it from. He said that it did have the 300 engine when he sold it and that it did come with the 44K rear ends. He also said that when he sold it that it did have original low hours and miles. So, the guy I bought it from must have swaped the engine at some point and somehow forgot to tell me about it....
  7. Been messing around with the truck today. Got the engine tag clean to where I can kind of read it. I beleive the 2nd owner may have changed the engine and possibly the rears. Thats why I thought I was told wrong from my local Mack, I'm guessing. Got a call into the 2nd owner. As you can see on the engine tag the manufactors date is 4- 73, engine family 3, and model END T (?) 675. Thoughts?
  8. Nope thats one of the plugs. Its leaking around it pretty good. Its behind the oil cooler so its hard to see and get to. I took that pic using a mirror.
  9. I'm sure the bed's been swaped at some point. I think it might have been a rogers originally, I dont think ox makes the under body frame.
  10. There's two still there, but they are rusty and I can't read them.
  11. Here's the coolant leak, I've also attached a couple photos of the suspension.
  12. Wasn't for sure how things hooked up or if there's a plug behind the cooler. Seems to be on the high side between the cooler and block.
  13. Any tips on where this coolant leak might be? Hoses seem tight, it almost seems to be around the block behind the oil cooler.
  14. I just had enough time to snap this shot on the way in today. In respect to the previous owner I removed his name from the door. I also just emailed the Mack Musem in hopes of receiving the correct information on the truck, mainly axle specs etc. I do beleive the engine is a 237.
  15. I heard that! I'm already attached. I appreciate you taking the time to look at the different turcks I've mailed ya lately. You don't know how releived I am to have found a truck. I got to where I was seeing craigslist etc at night when I closed my eyes. This truck wasn't even for sale. Looked at an old DM the guy was trying to sell and he started telling about this one and now it calls my place home
  16. I'm curious will they do this for my 96 CH also?
  17. I'm looking now for contacts. Would that be this guy? Don Schumaker, Curator 2402 Lehigh Parkway South Allentown, PA 18103 Telephone: +1 610 351-8413 Fax: +1 610 351-8756 Or is there a different web site or contact I'm not seeing?
  18. It does have the squar axle housing.
  19. Are you saying they are 38's or 44's?
  20. They are now Nextran, used to be Premier Truck Centers Tuscumbia, AL. Always been very helpful, I'm confused why they got all this wrong. Here's the door tag which the vin matches up with a another sticker in the door jamb.
  21. Geez, now I have no idea on the specs of the truck.
  22. Looks like I'm going to name her Mystery. ..lol The guy I bought it from said he was told it was special order, again I don't know. I wouldn't mind having the info from the mack musem, that would be nice to have. Here's a couple more pics or clues. I can take more pics or get different numbers tomorrow if it'll help us figure it out. I felt like the rears were heavier too.
  23. I'm not sure, I gave him the serial and thats what he told me. It was pretty cool though, the trucks was bought new from them by one of the larger contractors at the time an he remembers it. Said the guy ordered it for his personal use and was used around the farm etc. Supposidly wasn't put in the fleet. I'm can't varify anything cause the original owner is with his maker but I do plan on trying to find out. I'll get what ever you guys need to help varify the engine. Thanks! By the way, this truck is awsome!!
  24. Just made it home! Easy as pie! I feel more at home in that truck than my CH. My Mack dealer ran the #'s and had this to say: Mack 300+ engine (315 HP) TRXL107 2 stick 6 speed compact trans 464 ratio 38,000 rears with anti sway 18,000 front axle Build date 01-09-79
  25. Would this be it on the bottom right?
