  1. It seams A dump trailer would be the best idea. Of course I wouldn't need a tag trailer, already have two low boys, need to sale one or make a trade for me a dump trailer. I see a lot of recommendations on dump trailers and I will consider them all. What do I need to stay away from?
  2. I certainly appreciate everyone's help and I apologize for jumping back in so late, been a long day. I do have a single frame air ride. HK, thats a good looking truck you converted. I am somewhat new in the trucking world, been in excavation and construction the better part of my career, but we were developing large sub-divisions etc and were stationary for months if not years at a time. We would do all the land clearing and roughing things in and contract out the rest. About three years ago when housing went to poop, I started working for the general public doing mainly land clearing. I've learned quick that unless I want this just to be an expensive hobby, I've got to expand my services. Get a lot of calls from people wanting chert, gravel, fill dirt and top soil as well as demolition. So thats why I need a dump, but after reading everyones opinion and talking to others, I think I just need to get a dump trailer or go ahead with a dump truck purchase. The best think I like about my truck is that it's paid for and I know it. Didn't want to add debt buy getting another truck. Don't think I would get enough out of mine to justify a sale, market seems to be flooded here. So what do you men think about dump trailers and what direction should I look?
  3. I'm thinking of changing up my operation and will need a dump truck with tag along. I know the truck I have and like it. It already has PTO and geared good for a dump truck. What kind of cost would I be looking at? Or would it be cheaper to buy dump truck?
  4. Did you keep the same water reservoir? Just had the elec/malfunction problem and needed a new water level sensor. Found out that they made different sensors and if you switched reservoirs you could be getting conflict with wrong sensor.
  5. Being a dodge man, I like that idea. I can see some custom lovers reversed pushing air in. humm
  6. I have the same truck but a 96 model. I had that problem and it was a sensor in the pump and they are proud of those babies. Sensor alone was around $800. Complete rebuild for pump and injectors was about $2800. Getting any unspent fuel out the exhaust?
  7. I'm not for sure if it would be a violation of any copy right etc. but shop around at your local sign shops or ask who ever done your truck lettering. If you have a good photo of what they should look like, I'd bet they would be able to get pretty darn close. I've been thinking of doing the same instead of paying big bucks for a E7-427 emblem. I've already used my local shop to make some WIDE LOAD decals. Good luck
  8. Thanks, Good to still be around. I guess you could say I did. It runs continously, so I guess I can live with that.
  9. This type of conversation reminds me of the health care bill being rammed down our throats tomorrow. Walgreen's pharmacy has already said that they will have to refuse Medicare because no profit would be available for them to honor this service. So now we have the domino effect, they will need a bail out to be able to meet our new government health care regulations. This bill will also affect education funding of young want to be mechanics, etc. So here we go no money available from the private sector for education. Now let me get back to the topic. If the government starts forcing these regulations on our "out of date" trucks, sooner than later the government will be in control of the trucking industry in its entirety. This county is being sold out!
  10. I was talking trucks with a friend the other day and he he was telling me about his newer 2008 model Mack truck. I was asking him if he ever had any trouble with the EGR or any of the emission garb that comes on the newer trucks. Being the die hard Mack owner he is, he said no. But he did go on to say that he read somewhere that by 2012(?) all trucks would be required to add this garb to be legal. I went on to say by 2012 my truck would be, if not already, conidered a classic and pushing the antique status. So here is my question. If you have and antique truck, would this apply or is this simply hog wash?
  11. The sensor was a easy fix, but the cost was somewhat different than you had mentioned. My cost was $38 and that was with a good ole boy discount. What cost out the yang was an damaged two prong electrical conector that I wanted to replace. It was about $30........I'll never do that again, I'll be splicing and patching like the last guy, just with a little more pride.
  12. Finally got back to this project. The low coolant reservoir sensor was the problem with the Engine shutdown and the electrical malfunction lights. Let me say I appreciate everyones help! Now my fan after replacing the solenoid runs continuously. I plumbed it the same way so go figure. At least I don't have buzzers and lights going off and although not economical my fan does work, just all the time. I'll figure it all out one of these days.
  13. Your are one helpful man and I appreciate it all. It is definitely a maze of wiring. I would like to have all new wiring and fuse panel someday. There has been to much patch work here and there in my wiring before I got it. I'm pretty sure the coolant steam bath it got has shorted or is shorting something out somewhere. Do you know of anyone that specializes in replacement wiring harness or is this something I'll have to turn to Mack for?
  14. Ok, I think I might have told you wrong about my solenoid. If I unplug the solenoid it allows the fan to run continuously, so it takes power to the solenoid to turn it off, which evidently its getting. So I'm not getting the ground in the ECM to kill power and let fan run at high temp. This dont sound good, ECM problems? I haven't had a chance to check for volts (which now I know the solenoid is getting), the truck is still at a job site.
  15. Thanks for the info and comments Mack. Mine has the E7-427 and she'll pull around my JD 750C II Dozer like it isn't even back there. I'm goning to replace the water level sensor just to be able and rule it out on the Engine shutdown and Electrical Malfunction ligts. My fan takes air to engage it and thats the problem with the fan not getting power to open solinoid. Strangely enought this all happened at the same time, blew the manifold hose and saturated engine compartment and been having both problems since. Where exactly would the sensor on the manifold be for the solenoid? I was told it was at the very rear, and replaced that one with no luck. I have the overflow/surge tank on the fire wall.
  16. Ok, I've checked for any fuses for the fan soleniod in the engine compartment, results-negative(not to say there isn't). I did put a wire tracer on solenoid hook up and ended up at a air conditioner line on the oposite side of the radiator and another sensor. So, I got on BMT and found a similar topic with fan failure and someone said that the sensor was part of the fan operation and was know to go bad. Anyone have any input on this? Always appreciated.
  17. Thats the plan man! I'm a very conservative operator, but I don't like to let things go either. When its time I plan on doing a complete rebuild on my CH. I do find the EGR business very interesting, especially with global warming and all.......HA!
  18. If it aint broke, dont fix it! But, I would stay on top of the fix or bypass for future reference. What year did they start using this?
