  1. I'm sorry to hear that... I had a friend that had a lowboy tire blow on him while he was airing it up, and he ended up spending most of his senior year of high school in the hospital. I hope Mike pulls through ok. We'll send a prayer up for him.
  2. That's a good looking truck you got there, by the way!
  3. On an R Model they're mounted on the inside of the firewall, sort of under the steering column, I believe.
  4. That's an affirmative on the stick steer. If you want to help it you have to push down on one pedal with the heel of your boot and kick the steer lever over with your toe while you pick up and swing. It's kind of second nature to me on a modern setup, but this is gonna take a little getting used to.
  5. Has anybody on here had much experience with an old 215 Cat trackhoe? I think I've got one bought. Runs good, good bottom, tight pins, no bad leaks, but it's jerky as all get out. I hear they were like that when they were new, though. The best thing I like about it is NO COMPUTER!!!!!!
  6. I'm 6'5'' and my left knee pushes a dent in the door panel but I don't hit the a/c box. Mine must be in the back holes because I have a mid back seat and it rubs the back wall of the cab. I ride flat on the floor or my head hits the headliner. I still love my R model though!
  7. What part of MS are you in? I use Taylor Diesel in Memphis. Y'all have got me wanting to do the same thing to my E7 350 now!
  8. Dang Muslims! I've heard good things on here about a product called Dynamat. I plan on doing the whole interior of my RD in it someday.
  9. That's a nice looking little truck.
  10. I need to do mine in my 8LL. It's been grinding from hi to lo ever since I bought the truck 3 years ago. I just try not to knock down into lo unless I'm stopped.
  11. Well I'll be danged if that didn't stop it. Thanks, man. I put a 4" nipple and a 45 elbow in and it solved the problem.
  12. Reckon it could be an old Georgia Pacific truck? There's still quite a few of them running around down here in dixie. I don't know about up north.
  13. Last week my dump truck ate up the top ring gear bearing in the rear carrier. It was full of oil, but I guess old age just finally got it. By the time I got it limped home, even the housing was toast. Anyhow, funding was pretty short so I opted for the used takeout option. I got the axle housing cleaned up, dropped in the ''new'' chunk, and now it's puking oil out of the vent tube. It's not making any noise, and it doesn't seem to be getting any hotter than the front axle. Any ideas on what could be the problem?
  14. That's hilarious, Mike! If trucking ever gets old, at least you have a second career to pursue!
  15. Keep up the good work! If you're like me, you'll never get finished with it, but the fact that you're trying to fix it up faster than you wear it out means it'll last you a long time. You can't beat an old DM for rough work.
  16. That's pretty cool. Gotta love track loaders.... It almost looks like my 943.
  17. I've never had to do it myself, but I've heard of people mixing diesel fuel and motor oil 50/50 and pouing it into either the spark plug or injector ports and letting it drip for a day or two.
  18. Mike, I don't think so either. Paul, I'm gonna try to make a deal on the Mack. I really like the Acar but I'm running out of room at my dirt pit to store old trucks! He said he doesn't think he has a title on the Autocar. Not sure though. They both came from the same place.
  19. I picked up a used take out rear end for my RD today at a salvage yard a couple hours away. This was the first thing I noticed when I pulled up, (naturally!) It's an old Barnhart Crane and Rigging truck from Memphis. It had been sitting for 6 months, but it fired right up, built air in about 5 minutes, and I drove a loop around the yard in it. It was my first time driving anything other than a two stick six speed, but I think I've about got it whooped! Talk about being like a kid in a candy store! I'm gonna do my best to buy it. I know I'll never find another one like it and that close to home. It even has a DOT inspection and IFTA sticker from 2010. There was also a DC? Autocar there that came from the same place. 8v71, 5x4, and very heavy specs. I'll post some pics tonight when I get home. I don't want to make Ken mad by posting sideways pics!
  20. My '87 R model did it horribly until I had the pump rebuilt. It was in the governor, as br549 stated. I'd definitely start with the easy stuff, though!
  21. I'm not sure on the years they were produced, but yes, the truck you're talking about is an N model, I believe.
  22. I'm pretty sure I saw that truck westbound on I 40 around Little Rock a couple of months ago. There can't be that many of them still running. It was nice to see it still rolling.
