Yes I agree with you on the block, it was the service manager at the rebuild shop that said 'you can't tell the diff by just lookin at it' but you are not the only one who has told me about the crank prob. and converting them to a 855!! I hope that I don't have any crank trouble, but if I do, I have a nice 270 big cam III with a intercooler that I will rebuild and transplant it into her! I know about the 270 hp version so I just might have the pump recalibrated so as to give me a little boost Thanks again BULLHUSK

A Cummins 250 is a 855 ci motor, a Super 250 is a 927 ci. The Super has the same piston bore but a longer sleeve, the crank has a longer stroke and the block is higher. The rod's have 4 bolt caps. and I was told when they were doing the rebuild that the heads are diff. as well. At the time of the rebuild about 9 month's ago the price of a reman Cummins head was 3,600.00 bucks! and you would have to wait for your head cause they do not stock the head, I'm sure I could have gotten one a lot cheaper from an outside vendor. Now as far as power goes, the motor is lazy but is a torque monster, you have to shift the truck diff. when loaded an empty, when loaded I just use low an direct on the aux. (5X4) untill I get into 5th and then I kick it into OD, now when I'm M/T I use direct an OD. I had an A-Car at Colonial with a 6-71 Detroit, and and the same Spicer Air- Matic 5X4, and it was a lot better truck to shift! and I think maybe It was because the Detroit was a lot faster on the rev's then the Cummins??.... I would like to put some more fuel to the pump, or turbo the motor and make it a Monster 290! BULLHUSK

Glenn, The first thing that i looked for was oil at the rocker assm. but the area is bone dry, I will try the vent tube, and if that don't work I think the dealer puts a dye in the oil to find the area of the leak, Thank you for your input !! and I learned something new!! Ernie DS

I was checkin out my Brockway today, I've got about 3or 4 loads of Q/P to run from PA to my site. Well I see some oil around the front cyl. head and the block, so I clean it with some brake clean and start her up and sure enough I could see some bubbles and a little oil seeping between the head and the block. I just had the motor done about 9 months ago and I don't think it has 1,000 mi on the in frame! Oh well I guess It's back to the F-Liner dealer! They said they checked the block deck..but who knows??? Well anyway thats why I don't like to do my own motor work, cause if it don't work out....ya just bring it back!! BULLHUSK

Rob, I ran an R-220 Roadliner International for a couple of weeks for a friend of mine back when I was 17, and I gota tell ya it was a damn nice runnin truck!! I made a few trips from Harrison NJ to (I'm not sure of the spelling) Bengees MD. the truck had the 501 with split exh. man. (duel exh) and a very large Holly 4-V Carb; 5 speed OD with a two speed rear...... And there wern't to many guys that could catch ya! also the 427 flat head Continental was a very good motor but the big overhead Continental's that my Dad worked on in the big 260X Brockways always had oil pressure prob's. I could remember when I was a kid he would tell me to look at the oil pressure guage on the big Brock's and he would rev the motor and the oil pres. would would go to about 60 or 70 lb's, then he would let off the gas and the oil pressure would plummett to almost zero and then come back up to about 30. (not good) He would say that the slower the oil pres. drops, the longer the main's are holding the oil. The oldtimers had there own way of things back then didn't they? Almost like the Doctors of yesteryear, they did everything by feel and the sound of the Stethescope.... Ernie

Mark,It takes gittin used to, after steppin out of a 515 Detroit an into the old Huskie with a Super 250 Cummins! I put a crowned load of top-soil on yesterday (about 15yds) and she was OK with it untill I got to the 6% hill by my house, and thats when I had to put the 5X4 Spicer Air-o-matic to work!! I'll tell you what, it sure brings back the old Colonial S&S days LOL.. I just rebuilt the motor in her about 9 months ago, finding parts for that motor was not an easy deal! It seems that they only made that motor for a couple of years back in the late 60's an early 70's-- longer stroke 927 ci motor!! Now get this, the truck sat in a garage in Beacon NY, it had just over 100,000 mi when i bought it and every thing worked and was original...But it had the old anti-freez in the block and as soon as I started to use the truck I started to get water in the oil, liner cavation common esp. on a Cummins so I pulled it down and did an in frame and so far so good!.... Now they tell me that the motor came in two hp's a 250 and a 270, both natural asp. I have the 250 but would like to get a turbo setup from a 290 and put it on my motor, i have been told that it is possible but that i would have to keep a close eye on the pyro and water temp. cause I would not have the oil cooled pistons like most turbo motors today have. Now on the other hand I spoke to a guy who has a 71 White with the same Super 250 and had the pump set up for the 270 hp and said it made a big diff. in power. The truck is geared for 62mph flat out to the floor board, and thats gust fine with me! But it is nice to take the old ones out and work them, esp. when the young guys come up to you an ask ' What the hell is a Brock-a-way?' !!!!!!!!!!! Hope all is well! Ernie DS

Is Volvo Good Or Bad For Mack Trucks?
bullhusk replied to Barry's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I am not a Volvo fan, but I do like the F-Liner and W-Star... but the fact of the matter is that the US money stays in the US because of the Euro having more value then the dollar, thats today... But what has been goin on in Europe lately, the Euro just might be a thing of the past! Now if that happens and the dollar becomes strong again then you will see the foreign countries stop investing in the US and start to pull the dollars out of the US if it becomes 10 to 60% stronger then there money. I see it in my industry (cement) the French, Italians, Greeks and the Germans, all who used to import cement into the US, have bought up all the cement co's in the US BULLHUSK -
It looked more like a bulk cement or something, not fuel or liquid tanker ?

There is a lot of good info on this site, as well as a lot of laughs! I know, last summer when I was sick and not able to post... some of the guys called me to see if i was still kickin and if not, are any of his Mack's or Brocks for sale yet?? LOL It's a lot of fun and we have Barry to thank for it !! BULLHUSK

I guess if the Cat truck is not a hit in the next year or so, Cat will just pull the plug on them and leave the guy's that bought them holding the shit bag..... Somewhat like the A-Cert engines??? I know first hand cause I own 4 of those fuel eating rocker busting $5,000 turbo sucking junks that Cat wants to forget that they ever made!!..(they are still in denial, just try an get any warranty coverage on one) And thats all I have to say about that!! BULLHUSK

Rob, Could you just imagine... Lets just say you start a company and call it Classic 8's (class eight trucks) and you get the rights from Mack, Freightliner, maybe even Brockway and Autocar and start stamping out some old R7's and some 761 Brock's with the R-cab's and DC- A-Cars and older Liners ??? Just plain old glider's with a front axel and interior..Why not ?? How hard would it be to make a 760 or 761 esp. the fib. tilt nose? They have been doing it with old Ford's for some 50+ years now!! It can be done and I'm in if any of you guys out ther would like to research it BULLHUSK
