Convoy
vision386 replied to Maddog13407's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I guess i'm the exception to the rule,i never liked this movie, despite the good publicity/placement of Mack trucks,i guess to my way of thinking what owner-operator in his right mind would puposely destroy his own truck? the thing that provides you a means to make a living? just about every trucking movie made has some numbnuts crashing through a road-block,running cars off the road, driving through a giant glass sign, etc. Mike Parkhurst (the founder/editor of OVERDRIVE magazine) TRIED to make a movie about trucking, and show the truckdrivers as real everyday heroes, but when the money (his own) ran out,he decided to try and find some fianancial backers to help finish the project, but was told it was not "hollywood" enough, and it was their way or no way! the end result was a crappy movie by anybodies standards, (moonfire)that did feature some really nice Macks (RL-700,FL-700) but was involved with spaceships, spies, nazi's,astronauts etc. so i doubt there will ever by any realstic movie ever made about trucking............it always bothered me that they "dubbed-in" a screamin' yamaha inplace of the good old tip-turbine Mack in convoy's soundtrack, whats up with that?.....................Mark -

I agree with you pal! i get real upset when i hear about that damn church that disrupts military funeral services (cant think of the name) but i know for sure i would'nt allow that to happen, whether they have a "right" to be there or not! peoples most solemm and private moment should not be made a mockery of,knowing your situation i'm sure you agree. They tried their shit at a service in Jersey before we moved, and the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club ensured the family "that was not going to happen" on their watch, and luckily the local police agreed, and nothing happened......................just thought of it,westboro? baptist church?.....................................................Mark

AC tool set?
vision386 replied to 41chevy's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Paul,i'm pretty sure the Mack museum has or had one on display in one of the showcases,my grandfather told me one came with his AK-6 when he bought it,the only piece that survived is a curved 9/16-1/2 open ended wrench which i still have,it does not say "mack trucks" on it,but does have the International Motor Co. logo on it which leads me to believe its the real deal given its age............................................Mark -
Masterbrand has another bigger plant in Ferdinand,IN about 80 miles west of Louisville,KY off of I-64.........................................Mark

We've been married 22 years in sept.,could'nt ask for a better wife,no one else would put up with me! she realized from the get-go that i have a "passing" interest in trucks, and have just a FEW truck related items scattered throughout the house. I knew she was a keeper when she asked to "go for a ride in your Mack" she now understands the difference between a B and R-model,knows petes and vulvas are for pussies, how and what a duplex is. I never answer anything directly......ie: "does this make my ass look fat"? there IS no good answer, as most of the questions women ask are IMPOSSIBLE to answer correctly, and the secret to a good/long marriage is knowing that early on!......................................Mark

Truly an ass like a B-model Mack?....................................Mark

Thanks for the concern fellers! i surely appreaciate it! i'm not done yet,i spoke to the "traffic manager" at the plant in Indiana today for about 2 hours trying to see what their deal is,pretty much the same as i do now, with the exception of the 400 miles between here and there. And the fact that there are 25-30 owner-operators hauling out of there,as opposed to 2 here! He said he had spoken with the dispatcher at the Martinsville plant, and he had nothing but good things to say about me,so that being said, i made my list of "demands" loud and clear, same rate as now,no exceptions, pick and chose what i do and do not want (loadwise) i have been with this account longer than anyone else,so i am not about to hear any bullshit about costs of service,senority,on-time etc. i told him my record speaks for itself, and if there is any discussion about lowering rates, cutting stop/mileage pay, premium pay (5 boroughs NYC,LI,most of new england) than not to look for me to re-new the contact i signed. Of course all this has to be run past the "higher-ups". and the other problem i foresee is backhauls, now instead of this area,i'm going to have to find freight thats going to the midwest when i'm empty in order to re-load out of southern Indiana. On the bright side,i AM technically still leased to Clark Transfer, thought right now all i do is use their operating authority, and lease my trailer from them, and they are more than willing to do anything they can to help me out! it is sure nice to have people looking out for you! and as previously mentioned,my tractor is too old to do what Clark does fulltime, and i have absoulutely no intention of buying a new or "newer" truck anytime soon,as the "big money" days of long-haul trucking are just about gone, just does'nt pay like it used to,my gig right now being one exception, allthough the main reason is pretty much nobody WANTS to do what i do,go where i go! they all want truckload/west coast,no-touch,well that aint me! give me my 20 stops in Jersey,Philly,NYC anyday. That my friends,is my story, and i'm sticking to it!................again guys,i appreaciate the good looking out on my behalf!...............Mark

Kinda hard to believe that raggedy-ass bus put that Bulldog on its side! BUT,i bet when the truck was righted, couple turns of the crank, and it was prolly DRIVEN away! try that with a "modern" truck,so much plastic, fiberglass, etc. most are totalled by a minor fender-bender anymore!......................................Mark

I'd sure like to be able to make this one! maybe someday!...............................Mark

Sweet F Model:

If its spent most of its life in Michigan,i think i'd pass on this one, prolly throw a cat through the sheetmetal at this point!...............................................Mark -
Found out today,my envolvement with the main company i deliver for will no longer be needed after the end of this month! (here anyway) i knew something was "up" but not to this extent. Seems they are going to close this plant, along with several others due to the "economy" i got about 6-7 more loads to fulfill existing orders, then i'm pretty much out on my ass! And to think the reason we moved down here in the first place was so i could be closer to my outbound freight! but i guess you never can tell about such things,i am offered work out of another plant, but its in Indiana,so i just don't know what i'm going to do just yet!.................................Mark http://www.martinsvi...9&back=archives
