Rob,theres a good chance this could be a 62' trailer,this from someone who has spent an inordinant amount of time in and around moving vans. The six-lug wheels are one giveaway,as are the older style E-rails inside,and the older style non-attached curbside landing gear crank. AT&T used a good many of these for interplant/facility moves (large batteries,switching equipment etc.) this one may have had a stationary generator inside at one time,as evidenced by the vent in the lower skirt. We did a lot of moves for AT&T after it became more cost effective to hire "professsional" movers/riggers especially before the "digital age" came along..................................Mark

Some nice pictures Tom! i used to pick-up at the very same building where the Smith&Solomon GMC's are sitting in New Brunswick,NJ, at one time they still had a few of those around for spotting trailers. They closed down a good many years ago,and opened a truck driving school,which i believe now is also gone. I never knew until recently that most of the KW CBE's were sleepers! kinda like a coffin behind the second seat,not for me,thats for sure,being a bit clostrophobic (spelling?).....................Mark

Similar thing happened to me as a young man,i used to pass a "road market" (fresh produce,cider,eggs etc) everyday when i worked local,used to see a gorgeous redhead who would wave and smile at me everytime i passsed by,only problem was that she was always sitting behind a big cable spool made into a table with an umbrella over it. So oneday it get up my nerve,and decide i need a jug of cider (grew up on an apple farm) and decide it will be a good excuse to "check her out" pull up out front,walk over casually,start a conversation,just as pretty as i thought she was (from the waist up anyway) she walks out from behind the cable spool,and HOLY SHIT!!!!!!! that ass was AT LEAST two ax-handles wide!!!!! now i dont not like a "big girl" mind you,but when they are bigger,badder than me,i have to draw the line!.........................Mark

I have a buddy thats a mechanic at Harvey Mack in Delaware,he said the garbage truck repairs always go to low man on the totem pole (senioritywise) because of the constant stream of "gravy" running out of them!....................Mark

Nice picture! thanks for sharing it,i always liked the "New England" style paintjobs,fancy pinstripes and so-fourth. That area is one of the last places left that still paints moving vans up in this style,i truly wish i had taken more pictures early on in my career,you just dont see trucks like these anymore.............................Mark

Jim,you are certainly correct about the "changes" to the moving and storage industry,not the same as it once was,and i doubt it ever will be again. Had things not took a turn for the worse,i prolly would have retired from Atlas,just got to be too much politics and B.S. for me! the works hard enough without all that!....................Mark

Different time and place i know,but i never went to "driving school" learned the old school way,i know that is'nt always possible in todays world,but if i was to teach someone from scratch how to run a truck,i would'nt be comfortable turning them loose on the world with much less than a years experience,and even then it would be "my way or the highway"...i don't fault anyone for trying to better their situation,but you CAN'T learn to drive a truck in three weeks from a book or video,it's imposible!...........................Mark
