  1. I never got a good explanation as to why Mack got out of the fire apparatus industry,i mean i remember at one time the FDNY was approx. 90 percent Mack, both in standard and specialty trucks (super pumper, super tender etc.) seems to me why mess with a good thing? maybe one of the fire truck guys can explain?......................Mark
  2. Well said! my point exactly!.....................................................Mark
  3. Pawel, when doing stripes on a model (or full-size vehicle) my methods are basically the same as what Rob has stated, with one small exception (with regards to models) i always use 3-M brand masking tape (the blue type) i un-roll a few lengths and stick them down to a piece of clean glass (this helps remove some of the "tack" in the tape) and then using a straightedge, cut the tape into equal length/width strips (this helps remove some of the "ragged" edges on the tape) lay out your design, apply your top-coat color,i find removing the tape (in the same manner as Rob described) easiest when the paint is still slightly "tacky" later, when completely dry, the stripes can be lightly wet-sanded,and touched-up if needed, then progressive clear coats can be added,to help "blend" the stripes. And when separating finer lines in stripe designs,i have found using cut-down full size pinstriping tape to have good results. Hope this is of some help to you!.................................................Mark
  4. Something this far gone, and needing as much work as this one,is just not realistic to the "hobbyist" restorer at the asking price, and in my opinion will end up being a money pit,or even worse, never done. That is not to say the truck is without merit,or junk, but in my opinion, the truck is just not practical as a "fixer-upper". Someone wanting a few smaller projects, and a driver, would not be happy with all that needs to be done here,or become easily overwhelmed and just give up. I also believe a lower starting price initially would yield better results (sellingwise) and would not be suprized to see multiple offers come in,lotta'good stuff here, could be used on an existing B-model resto....................................................Mark
  5. Not to be negative, but sometimes theres a reason for that! i mean a single axle on springs? and a cruiseliner? not the best combination in my opinion ( unless you have a good looking, busty chiropractor on retainer) prolly have to look into a simpson 5-point racing harness, and a HANS device just to stay in the seat! i drove a twin-screw cruiseliner(camelback) for a short period, and let me tell you, that was THE roughest ridin;S.O.B i ever closed the door on!...............................Mark
  6. Thats what i was thinking......................................................Mark

LOL! sure wish i could type fastern' 10 words an hour, spose that might help! pretty much given up on the whole ebay thing (for now anyway LOL!).......................Mark
  18. Personally,i think there is a lot of "who has the biggest johnson" the the towing and recovery business,RARELY do the ends justify the means (half a million dollar wrecker?) my late cousin was in the towing racket for years,he did buy top notch equipment, but it was never fancy, chromed,or babied! they were however SPOTLESS,and his reputation as someone who could do any job was his calling card, and if not done "his way" he'd simply walk away....later to be called back to do the job, that the "default" company could'nt handle (at twice the first quoted rate i might add)..better to have a clean, well maintained wrecker, with a capable driver, then a million dollar boat anchor! (in my opinion).........................Mark
  19. Exactly! it was my intent that you should adapt the modern drivetrain to the existing chassis, therefore keeping the looks and integrity of the truck mostly intact............not simply adding the older cab to the "new" frame, not a big fan of that myself.......................Mark
  20. LMAO! now thats a riot! i was un-aware they had stopped production on NEW flanged bolts! i do however have a set of OEM 1970 chevy bumper mounting carriage bolts (circa 1978) bent, rusted, included at no extra charge, that i will start taking bids/offers on at a $300.00 reserve, think this guy might be interested?...............Mark
  21. I "mistakenly"??? ate some of the dogs buffalo jerky treats not too long ago, almost bettern' the "real" stuff, now when the wife or boy shakes the bag TWO mutts come a runnin".............Mark
  22. Given what the truck will be used for,i also recommend looking into a DT-466 International, these are great mid-range engines, they were in a LOT of IH schoolbus chassis, and used schoolbuses are plentiful (and can be bought on the "cheap") also a good source for other needed upgrades,ie: trans.rear, air brakes etc. without breaking the bank!....just a suggestion of course!.....................Mark
  23. Prolly so! great minds think alike! guess that leaves you& me S.O.L LOL!..........................Mark
  24. Yup, Ernie remember all those carriers, what was the one (not even sure if they were outta Jersey) i got no idea how to spell it HMIELELESKI ??????? something like that, they ran red single axle Brockway 359's had a terminal down around woodbridge?,near where the old eastern express terminal was before it burnt down?....................Mark
  25. Jay, i'm guessing its an "east coast" thing, but i always liked the hood cove body color, with the fenders black, look at almost any NYC trash truck/dump truck an you'll see what i mean!.......................Mark
