The Carolina museum in Cherryville,NC has about 14 restored trucks in it B,H,LJ,N etc. they had a little booth set up at the show, and i bought a pretty nice book about the companies history,it has some real nice pictures of some of their equipment over the years, they also had some die-cast trucks for sale as well, a Ford stakebody,a BX Mack tractor-trailer,and a Winross LTL Ford with a set of doubles, all at reasonable prices..................Mark

Paul, any pictures of the funny car? i spent a LOT of time at Englishtown,NJ in my youth and what they call "nostagia"racing is what i grew up with. "Vintage" funny cars, top fuel (front engine) pro-stock cars are something of a hobby of mine............Mark

Neat truck, but as allready stated you have some Autocar cross breeding there! grille shell for sure,as well as the headlights, and probably the fenders as well, which to my eye may or may not make any difference,as it does not look "pieced together" as many of these type trucks do. Personally i would leave it as is cosmetically,as you surely have a unique looking truck! and no better advise is given than to contact the Mack museum first and get your information on the trucks pedigree before getting too far into it. Good luck with it,and keep us posted! most everyone on here is willing to help save a classic Mack from the scrapyard!...........................Mark

Was glad to see Mr.&Mrs Otherdog too! wish i could have stayed a little longer, but i came right off the truck when i got home this morning,so i was just a little tired! saw a few nice Macks and a few other "Brand-X" makes as well,i stopped by Macks world headquarters on the way home and snapped a few pics, they have a new pinnacle out front now..........................................Mark

My my! what a wonderful nostalgic film! the "good ol days" when trucking was still a noble profession, the true knights of the road, when people still looked up to truckdrivers! sure makes me proud to know my heritage started along these lines, but both my grandfather and my dad would spin in their graves knowing what trucking has turned into! makes me think i was born a litle too late, missed out on the heyday of the big trucks, pride in professionalism, appearance and a job well done! sadly now its driving school "rambo's" sweatpants,flip-flops,foreigners,and not bathing for what must be weeks at a time! and people wonder why "truckers" are almost universally dispised now! truly sad to see long-haul trucking fade away from what it once was!..............................Mark

48' Mack LT for sale
vision386 replied to jaysm35a2's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I gotta go with Superdog on this one,i also think anything under 20K is a bargain! especially given the relative rarity, and un-molested shape the truck is in.The LT's were'nt called the "duesenberg" of trucks for nothing! whens the last time you saw one for sale ANYWHERE? and even if restored to stock specs.this is a truck that could easily bring a six figure return on a big budget job! course,my Mack judgement may "cloud" my opinion, but as far as i'm corcerned there never was a classier, better looking truck ever built by any manufactorer than the LT Mack...........................Mark -
Looks like a good time was had by all! i sure miss the comeraderie of truck/car shows, especially the smaller ones...........BTW,who belongs to the F-model in the pictures? a good looking truck! i have only ever seen 2/3 with the raised roof conversion, always thought that was a good idea in an F-model given the limited available space inside, many a times i put my pants on while laying down in one one!...........................Mark

I kinda like the LFT cab and chassis, dont see all that many L's come up for sale anymore or at truck shows either.............where did they all go? SURELY not the scrapyard!............Mark

A little overkill? or maybe Rob should think about project "R-24"..........................................Mark

You SURELY dont want to bend over and pick up anything in the pro lockeroom! almost guaranteed to get "hit in the seat" LOL!...........................Mark

Freightliner Trucks Releases 2012 NASCAR Hauler Calendar
vision386 replied to BMT Forum Bot's topic in Trucking News
I got home early today,Vision jr. and i went to see some of the Nascar haulers loading into Martinsville speedway, and sadly, not a Mack in the bunch! with the exception of the MRN (motor racing network) outfit, which consists of two pinnacles,a tractor and a straight truck, both of which were in the Mack bulldog magazine a while back. Not good weather at all for pictures! they are talking about snow flurries, and its pouring rain right now, cold outside! i bet theres gonna be a lot of pissed off people this weekend! we watched campers and RV's leaving by the dozens! hell,i may not even wash my truck this weekend!......................................Mark -
Whats the wheelbase on that thing Tom? dont know firsthand, but i've talked to a few guys that run similar trucks, and they all told me they are "steeringly challenged" not much good in a tight place. Gotta agree with the gutless thing too,my opinion is that the "big-horse" days are a thing of the past! espsecially with all the new EPA crap/rules and regs. pretty much a done deal now,but i guess the upside is a BIG gain in MPG's im still averaging 7.1 or 7.2 with my 10 year old truck,(granted most of my freight is lightweight) but i also drive like the guy whos paying for the fuel,so that helps!............Mark

Tom thumb? he was a "little" guy no?....................................Mark

Tom,I had to laugh when i read about how much stuff you had in the truck! guilty of that myself! being an ex "bedbugger" i was suprised at the amount of stuff/shit you accumulate over the years! took me damn near all weekend to clean out my truck last time i did a spring cleaning, had shit in there i did'nt even remember being in the truck,or where it came from! we have a small station wagon, and i made two trips to the house loaded!......................Mark P.S. you going to Colfax next month?

Never had much luck with ebay, seems evrytime i find something i am interested in,i will be the top bidder up and until .03 seconds from the ending! then i get the carpet pulled out fromunder me,so i have pretty much given up on the whole idea, which is a shame, cause i have seen quite a few things i would've surely purchased if it had a "buy it now" price....but being computer illiterate, you do the best you can with what you have to work with i guess!.......................Mark

Salvage yard in Nebraska
vision386 replied to 41chevy's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Thats got to be your place then,on the right headed south? i seem to remember a stockade type fence and quite a few trucks sitting outside, and it was before the Mack dealship, but this has been 4-5 years ago, maybe longer........................Mark -
Chuck, just got home and this was the first thing i read,so sorry for your loss, and my deepest sympathy and condolences to both you and your family..........................Mark

Salvage yard in Nebraska
vision386 replied to 41chevy's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I saw this place advertized in wheels of time, and checked it out,as far as other truck salvage yards i can remember passing one in south central iowa a few years back that was LOADED with all sorts of Macks, cant remember exactly where, but i seem to remember passing a Mack dealership/service shop as well..maybe superdog knows the place i'm talking about?.............Mark -
Heavy duty wreckers
vision386 replied to vision386's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Was'nt sure that was the same truck, looked just like Lynch's truck,i know Haines as well through a family member (former owner of Helmrich towing and recovery) my cousin also had a very heavy duty ex-navy wrecker but his was an Oshkosh. I remember seeing a federal of similar construction in the Trenton area, but cant remember the name of the towing company...............Mark -
I sure enjoy reading the "armed citizen" as well, nice to hear about some kindly grandmother "bustin' a cap" in some crooks ass! crooks that would like to visit my house will be treated to a model 1911 Colt .45 and a wife that can consistantly hang all 8 in the 10 ring!......................Mark

It seems to me that multiple plates on trucks went away in the late eighties early nineties, and the individual state fuel permits about the same time,i remember the first IFTA sticker on my truck was 1995 when i still had my MH. But up till then, trucks were still required to display plates or permits from each state travelled in. But as far as modelling a "period" U.S truck they would still be on any truck from the 1950's up to the 1970's,if you look up some pictures of an over the road truck from the 50's the front bumper is littered with plates of all shapes and sizes! but a modern truck would only have one plate from its state of registration, and a single IFTA sticker (international fuel tax agreement) that covers all the states travelled in instead of multiple ones all over the side of the truck, same thing with the outdated ICC,MC,and state registration numbers that used to be reqiured on both sides of the truck. hope this is of some help....................Mark
