  1. I agree, sure nice to see a young guy interested in old iron! REALLY nice to have another "Jersey Guy" on here to help me keep these guys straight! LOL! welcome aboard, sure hope you have a sense of humor!....................Mark
  2. I noticed it was RH drive as well, think it would take some degree of practice to handle 2 sticks with your left hand! but,a few months pulling a trailer here in the states, and you would be one blindsidin' S.O.B! LOL!............Mark
  3. Lemme see, radiator shell,hood,door(maybe) frame LOL!..........................Mark
  4. Amen to that!............Mark
  5. Cliff,i'd sure like to read that if you can find it! i used to subsribe to the double clutch, but when they started having problems i dropped it,so i dont get it anymore. I'm sure if you find out which one its in,someone on here who has the issue can post it............Mark
  6. Hey Bob,hows it going? i know, i know! but seems like anymore all i do is work! it was always my intent to build a truck before i was too old and feeble to drive it,but now i aint so sure! LOL! definately not getting any younger!................Mark
  7. Cliff, thats a great picture! thanks for sharing, kinda makes me homesick LOL! I first met Johhny many years ago, when i was driving for mike catalano (M&J catalano farms Salem,NJ) i was loaded with 44,000 Lbs. of fertilizer, well long story short,i was going up to north jersey from Vineland, hit a BAD bump on route 54 just south of Hammonton, broke the trailer in half! had to transfer the load to another trailer by hand,Johhny came and towed in the wrecked trailer back to Woodstown. I could hear the R-model coming from a mile away! most everybody i know in the trucking business has a "Johnny" story ,really a one of a kind! and something of a "legend" in south jersey. i wish i knew the whole story/details behind the wrecker,i think the members here would get a kick out of it!.....Thanks again, Mark
  8. Full speed ahead,damn the torpedoes??????LOL!....................Mark
  9. I agree,Tidewater was a really good dealership at one time,i remember the auction flyer that was mailed to me when they liquidated all the B-model parts inventory, list of things available at the time was incredible! and Robs right, the parts/service was great! now,not so much! just like Horner, they would'nt stop looking till you got what you needed, even if it was at another dealer, they'd get you fixed up! and they did'nt need the last 6 of your VIN# to look up a part!most things (at the time) were in stock,i remember Horner stocking groomed cabs, frame rails, fuel tanks, engines, trans. damn near anything! now nobody has anything in stock.i understand why,but does'nt make my life any easier while on the road, waiting 2-3 days for parts,2-3 days before "we can get you"......Mark
  10. I agree,Barrys got a good thing going here, and for all of us "Mack guys" i really dont do any internet "socializing" other than here, and i relly enjoy all the people and conversations i have, plus their is a wealth of information available to all of us. Rhaslers right, the old time dealers are just about gone, personally,i only have about 2 dealerships in the entire country i trust with my truck! As far as catering to the old truck hobby, once upon a time ,Tidewater Mack in Virginia beach,VA had a really good B-model parts/support inventory, but when the money went away,so did the old truck parts. It is a shame too, these were great guys to deal with! now its all about the money......pretty much all of em' now! and parts? whats that? if you dont need a new hat or mudflaps, you're pretty much SOL!............Mark
  11. Not to run away with the thread, but i ordered a light kit from JP several years ago, when it arrived (UPS) it was bent to shit! un-useable! i paid the freight to send it back, they sent my another one, bent worse than the first!!!!! figurered out UPS was not to blame, did get my money back eventually, but never got reimbursed for the return freight,so i have never ordered from them again, others may have had good luck, but this was my experience, and therefore i would not recommend them. IMHO better off to order from a good reputable, independant chrome shop....................Mark
  12. I agree with Randyp,by the time fuel goes down,we'll all be in the ground! the new guys will be runnin new trucks that probly run on soybeans, cabbage or maybe dirty diapers!.....heres what some of em look like!..........Mark
  13. Sorry to hear that, hope all is well now....i was wondering where you were hiding LOL!........Mark
  14. Hey Ernie, good to hear from you too! same ol same ol here! i got about 18 more loads left on my current contract, workin my ass in the ground! LOL! i have a meeting with the company i load for end of next month,to see about making it a permanent thing.....but the way fuel is right now,i just dont know! i know i gotta ask for more money, bitch part is if fuel wasnt $4.00 gal.i'd be doing pretty decent moneywise! i been real lucky with my truck, but its 10 years old,and in this economy, and all this new EPA bullshit,i aint even THINKING about buying a new truck! might just as well find an old R-model and haul local LOL! anyways, hope all is good with you and yours, have you done anything with the R-model yet? was curious to see how you was makin out?..................Mark
  15. http://www.capecodfd.com/pages%20special/Macks4.htm Found a neat page featuring all Mack fire trucks.....some neat pictures, thought they might be of interest.....Mark
  16. Hey Paul, long time no see! i sure enjoyed looking at your picture album, i came across the KW pics.while looking for info on the Mack turbines,i wanted to see what was under the cab of the cruise-liner! thanks for posting!...............Mark
  17. Welcome aboard! always nice to have another huskiepup fan! i saw your grandfathers truck many years ago,up at Englishtown,NJ (raceway park) at the Overdrive magazine diesel truck races....i even posted a few pictures i had taken at the time, really nice little truck as i remember, fit and finish attention to detail was outstanding!.............Mark
  18. I found some pictures of a pretty interesting Kenworth, this was their first experimental tractor powered by a gas turbine engine (circa 1950) not much information included in the article, other than the fact it was a flop, with many "issues" but some neat pictures none-theless. musta been a strange sight to see going down the road!.................Mark
  19. They were really great people at Vineland,my family and i dealt with them for a long time,i personally bought 3 trucks through them.Bergey would'nt even entertain the thought of ordering my current CX,they were more concerned with the WM garbage trucks they now service in-house,and i had to make an "appointment" for service or a PM,so i stopped dealing with them alltogether. I was using Harvey Mack in New castle,DE before we moved..but was not real impressed with them either.I did however have the last laugh on Bergey's though...before horner sold out,i was personally invited to the "attic" over the old parts room, you would not believe all the NOS Mack stuff i got for little or nothing! i have been adding inventory since i was in high-school,with the intention of someday building a replica of my dream truck.....maybe some-day!....................Mark
  20. I agree with Rob,personally i'd keep it as is,if you do go to welding on it,theres a good chance you could "blue" it (like a discolored motorcycle exaust) dial up a little too much, could burn right through it! just my two cents!...............Mark
  21. Thanks Frenchy! so many different plates its hard to tell!..............Mark
  22. Well, thats good news! if anybody needed some R&R it was Melvin! one of the greatest parts guys ever in my opinion. I was un-aware that he had retired,as i have been out of Jersey almost 4 years now, last time i was in there(vineland) was 09' or early last year.Real shame to see him go,they just dont make guys like that anymore! do you also know Johnny lilla that bought horners old R-model wrecker? my brother still lives in Jersey, and told me the last time he saw him he was driving a PINK autocar wrecker! and the R-model had been sold locally.....................Mark
  23. Might be because Horners been out of business for years? both dealerships were taken over by the Bergey truck group, Horner was my home dealer for many many years, and were great in their heyday, but i have nothing good to say about Bergeys, with the exception of the Vineland,NJ branch, they have one of the greatest parts guys on the planet! Melvin Street (streetzy) if he cant get it,it dont exist!............Mark www.bergeytruckgroup.com
  24. Hey Chuck, was you ever over the dam BEFORE the truck ban? it was a nice ride, but the old road/bridge over the dam is narrow as shit! i have'nt been out that way in quite a while, havent been over the new bridge yet.sure save you some miles i know that!............Mark
  25. Hey BoBo,nice find! looks like the picture i found was before these? looks like some type foreign plate in your pictures France? maybe? i have never seen the set-back axle F-model here in the states, looks like a tractor for sure,in my pic.it looks more like a straight-truck with a flatbed body. So how goes it with the superliner?.............Mark
