Matching An Existing Unknown Color Paint
vision386 replied to fxfymn's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
Oh ok,then my next suggestion would be to seek out a painter with a good "eye" and see if he can match you up,shops that cater to custom cars/hot rods are usually the best at this (in my opinion) as most are painted custom mixed colors,so therefore hard to match, but not immpossible. i would try that and see what you come up with......Mark -
Mack Historical Museum
vision386 replied to 1MACK1's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Hey Bob,hows it going? R-model treatin' ya ok so far? i agree with whats been said in this post, the Mack historical mueseum is a valuable resource to those of us in this hobby, and should be supported whenever possible. A great wealth of information is available to us,free of charge, but it takes time, effort, and man-hours to produce the info packages. No other truck maker has a service even close to this! or the loyal following Mack enjoys! so in my opinion, its well worth a donation.......i also believe a phone call and follow-up letter are the way to go (but i have been called "ancient" in the technology department) LOL!.........Mark -
Matching An Existing Unknown Color Paint
vision386 replied to fxfymn's topic in Exterior, Cab, Accessories and Detailing
Matching existing paint is not as difficult as one might think,if possible, take a small part (that is the color you wish to match) to a reputable local bodyshop,or a paint jobber that deals with dupont products (dupont has one of the largest color catalogs available)..a GOOD painter Should be able to "eyeball" the paint, especially straight enamel. (though it does take an experienced person)It's not a bad idea to make friends with a talented painter/body-man,as sometimes small jobs (touch-up's,painting single parts seperately etc.) can be done on the side for a resonable price. And you must also take into consideration oxidation, age, sun fade, and general condition when matching paint, but believe me it can be done!.......and yes, primer will effect the final color outcome (to some degree) ie: lighter toned primer under light tone colors white, silver etc. darker under black dark blue etc. I hope this is of some help to you........Mark -
Found this picture of a strange looking F-model,it's obviously the set-back axle european version, but has a W-series Cruiseliner grille, have no idea about the headlight configueration, also note the doorhandles....i have seen pictures of the set back axle version( mostly in europe),but this one has a California plate, just thought it looked "odd".............Mark

I personally have always had good luck with L-N products on heavy trucks, and have always specified them as a replacement when nessesary, and maybe its just me,but i have never had any problem getting the pulley off an L-N case, where in the past i did with a Delco ,on a different application (Detroit 60-series) but as far as light-duty applications,i have had the same Delco alt. on my 1970 chevy pickup for 20 plus years with absoulutely no problems!...........Mark

I agree, this guy(trump) does bring up some valid points/questions,and he is a WINDY bastard!....but to be perfectly honest, anymore its hard for me to believe ANYTHING that comes out of a polititians mouth, aspiring or otherwise! we've all been lied to,handed a bag of shit for so long, its just not funny anymore. We as a country have forgiven all sorts of international debts, but all the countries that hold paper on the U.S. expect their bill paid in full! and expect our help at the first sign of trouble, and we come a runnin'! bout' time we took care of us! Government shut-down? have no fear, congress will still get paid !(probly vote themselves a raise while their at it) meanwhile, obama bin laden is off making nice with al sharpton in NYC! why bother running the country?,which correct me if i'm wrong,YOU WERE ELECTED TO DO!!! god forbid we do ANYTHING to offend the oil producing countries! or muslims,or homos or treehuggers or anybody else, just so we can pay $150.00 a barrel for oil, happy to send jobs overseas, sure don't need em' here right? long as we have cheap shit to buy everythings just fine! on a personal note,i have'nt voted in YEARS, wasting my vote? my vote counts? bullshit! has'nt been any real leadership in this country since Ronald Reagan....IMHO,had the gipper still been running the show today,we would'nt be in the "situation" we are now.......sorry for the rant!....Mark

I talked to the owner/operator of the truck, and he told me the artist did the murals for the cost of materials just to get his work "out there" but figuered if he had to pay for the job, would have been in the neighborhood of about 10K! ( truck and trailer) he did everything but the flag and lettering in just under 2 weeks......Mark

Hey Ernie,i'm right there with you! its a real shame most kids today never have, or never will see a scene like this!..way back when, when the kids (and parents) actually cared about what was going on in school, the teacher was'nt to blame for little billys "anger issues" was no such thing as ADD, nobody brought a gun to school to deal with being picked on,no metal detectors (cept'maybe Newark? LOL!) and the kids still said the pledge of alliegiance, which nobody was "offended"by world has sure changed since i was i kid............Mark

Hey Trent thats some neat stuff! i am sorta' getting back into building models after a LONG time! this is just the kinda stuff i've been looking for,i have a closet full of old model kits that i've accumulated over the years, just never seemed to have the time to do anything with them,my wife got me the re-release of the old snap-together R-model with a tanker for christmas, been fooling with it a little at a time, just for fun ,not much to it,but it sure looks like an R-model! maybe i will contact this guy,see what his deal is....would like to build a replica of my "dream truck" (that RL from up your way) the grille surround and the extra parts would sure make it easier!.............Mark
