  1. Yes,this was out in california, not sure when it happened, but transfer dumps are very popular out on the west coast, seems like an awful lot of work to run one though......but when its done right, its kinda neat to see in action! some of thse guys can really hustle getting them changed over! i have seen a similar contest like this one once when i was in L.A. for a weekend a few years back, wish i had taken some pictures, beacuse a woman in a RL-700 won the overall speed competition!........Mark
  2. Buddy of mine sent me these pictures, seems the RW could not stop in time, and rear-ended another dump-truck making a right turn, shot the transfer box right off the rails! no one was seriously hurt luckily! wrecked up what looks to be a pretty nice truck...........Mark
  3. I can sure agree with that! i take a lot of pride in my ride as well! may not make any difference to some,to each his own,but when i show up at a customers location,i want them to know they are dealing with a professional person. My truck is no show piece by any means, but spotless, clean, well maintained, both inside and out,of course i live in mine most of the year anyway, and i too enjoy drinking a few beers when i'm cleaning and so-forth. its a matter of pride as far as i'm concerned,i work hard all year, and in this economy consider myself damn lucky! so i refuse to run up and down the road in some "shitwagon" LOL! especially when my names on the door!..........Mark
  4. Many years ago,i remember seeing a "kit" that used a VW beetle as the base, consisted of a fiberglass hood,a van type body, and all the accessories (stacks, west coast mirrors, etc.) to covert your "bug" into something that resembled an R-Model,which i thought was kinda neat looking, seems to me,Tom (otherdog) has a picture of one in his gallery,im almost positive i have seen one on here somewhere..........Mark
  5. I always heard S*J was a good outfit to work for,my buddy's been there almost 20 years, started with one of the other south jersey "big 3" all those guys started in the trucking business about the same time, S*J (Sam jones) KMT (Mike williams) M*J Catalano farms (Mike catalano) they all used nothing but Macks at one time. They usually worked their way down from Sam,and ended up at M*J farms. Been trying to get Mike Catalano to join here,he owns the first truck i ever drove,1963 B-61T, been trying to get him to sell it back to me for many,MANY years! he also has a B-75, R-401, F-797,and several other classic Macks....Mark
  6. I'm sure i'll get hammered on here for saying so,but i don't think i've ever seen any "mini-truck" project that i really liked,i often wonder what goes through someones mind when they build something like this! but again, thats just my opinion, and everybody knows what they say about opinions!........Mark
  7. Trent,i think you will see a noted improvement in your ride when you get the swap complete,i have a buddy up in jersey that runs an R-model/camelback pulling a frameless dump,he wanted to add air-ride to his cab,but the first time he went with some cheap aftermarket set-up,shook it to pieces within a few months! then we did basically what you're doing now,and it worked out really well for him.Just make sure keep a good eye on things during the "shakedown".........Mark
  8. Whoopsie! i bet somebodys looking for a new job after that!................Mark
  9. Might try a Bostrom "Level-aire" II,they were pretty common in most Cabovers, and have a narrow back section, because of the limited travel room in a C.O.E,almost every freightliner C.O.E i've seen had this seat in it,so maybe a trip to a truck salvage yard would be the way to go, used truck seats can usually be picked up on the cheap!..................Mark
  10. My wife was watching TV last night before going to bed,(travel channel) when this commercial comes on, "plan your next trip to Puerto rico, and see the oldest city in the United states" am i missing something? last time i checked, there were still only 50 stars on the American flag! did Puerto rico become a state under the cover of darkness? i do realize it's been a LONG time since i was in school, but i was un-aware that Puerto rico was a "territory" of the U.S. same with the "U.S. Virgin Islands" hell' i got a coin with that BS on it! maybe i should get out more? i just told my son (who is learning geography in school) that puerto rico has nothing to do with the U.S. (state-wise) and he corrected me as well! Maybe someone on here knows more than i do,and could shed some light on this for me?............Mark
  11. Hey Barry,have a good one! best wishes!........Mark
  12. You left the door wide open right there bud! but i'm gonna be good, and not comment on your "suction"!!!!!.................Mark
  13. I agree, farming has always been an inherantly dangerous business,i for one am glad to see all the safety features added in recent years,if people would JUST USE THEM! be a lot less accidents! I have a treasured picture of my grandfather, sitting on his Oliver 88 with a borrowed "cornpicker" attachment in place,he's holding up his hands to show he still has all of his fingers at the end of the season! I dont know for sure how many times he turned over a tractor, but lived to be 87 years old, which was quite an accomplishment for a life-long farmer!...............Mark
  14. Had some of mine on my eggs this mornin' was burnin' a hole in my pocket to try some !(figuratively) mighty good stuff! nice work Tom! or should we call ya'"texas pete" ? lol!................Mark
  15. I was always fortunate to never have turned one over,i did however get knocked off the 8-N once,i was pushing up late growth apple tree brush to burn, was getting late in the day,not really paying attention to what i was doing,i was headed down one row, looked behind me to make sure trailer was clearing corner, when i turned back around,WHAM!!!! low-lying branch hit me across the chest! knocked me right off the tractor! Damn lucky it did'nt run over me! cut the shit outta my elbow on the corner of the flatbed i was pulling on the way down! tractor ran into the tree, stalled out, bent up the grille, knocked the headlight off,Pop was pissed at the time, but was glad i did'nt get hurt worse! (me too!).........Mark
  16. I spent a lot of time in the seat of an 8-N when i worked on the family farm,i always wished it kinda looked more like this one! seems to me you could get more work done faster with a supercharged flathead!........Mark
  17. Hey GG2 just wanted to wish you a happy birthday!...Have a good one!...............Mark
  18. Try this one!............Mark
  19. John,i know very little about how websites (or computers) work for that matter! but everthing looks good to me! i especially like the vintage Mack advertising,i have a large collection myself. I do however have one suggestion,if you have ever looked at a book for sale on amazon.com,they have a "preview" type feature to allow users to look at the table of contents,a few misc.pages in the books etc. i think this would be especially helpful in the owners/service manual section, kind of allow a little glimpse inside? its just a thought,as i have no idea what work is envolved or costs associated with something like this. Maybe your web guys have a better idea of what i mean. And i'm right there with you on the time factor! seems theres less time to devote to much of anything these days! but i do wish you guys the best of luck with the venture, and i'm sure once the word gets out (on here) you will have plenty of "traffic"!.......Mark
  20. Or WWWWAAAAAYYYY too much time on their hands!..................Mark
  21. Thats what i meant, vacuum out the housing, blow out the filter itself.......my dad ran peterbilts,i know those Vortox filters aint cheap!..Mark
  22. Hey Rob,try here, they have some off of Macks, and other makes as well, may be something of interest they dont seem to be overly expensive either!.......Mark http://www.buyandselltrucksleepers.com/index.php?option=com_adsman&task=listadds&Itemid=2009&cat=4
  23. Heres a real "mini" Mack i found!............Mark
  24. I change mine usually once a year, though i do keep an eye on it,i look it over at PM time, usually wipe out the filter housing, blow it out with an air gun etc. If it looks like it needs replacing i do,but you gotta remember i do NO off-road work,so mine lasts considerably longer than usual. I think if i did what you do,i would replace it more frequently, just my 2 cents!..........Mark
  25. That, i believe is the factory location for that emblem.................Mark
