Nope you're right,it was a "Rest Rite" just got excited,had a "brainfart"!!!!!!!! did'nt want to let the cat out of the bag too early,but i have a line on a 1974 RL-700 in my area thats currently a Tri-axle dumptruck (former tractor) been sitting for approx. 12 years i can get "cheap" its literally right down the street from where i live,guy wants to keep the dump body,so would be a perfect "jumping off" point for my project! just have to wait and see how it shakes out! as there are a couple other people interested in the truck,but the big problem is it does'nt run/drive (cracked head) and i'm not going to go wild (pricewise) with something that needs EVERYTHING from the ground up!.............Mark

Thanks a lot Trent,i appreacieate it! anything you can dig up would be helpful! according to what Rob told me,the truck got parted out many years ago,but i thought if i could talk to the owner he could give me some insight,tips etc. on the specifics of the truck,or maybe have some better pictures of it than i do.where is Round lake in relation to Chicago? i get up that way every once in a while.....Mark

No,i sure don't i only met the driver/owner once back in the 80's did'nt get into specifics,now i wished i had! i have searched Ilinois DMV records,people search you name it,i found out from Rob the guy that owned this truck was one of the original inventors of the truck APU! even tried to find him through a U.S. Patent application,so far all i know is his name is/was? Robert (Bob) Eckstein,from Round lake Beach,IL and his name IS listed on the patent application form dated 1982.its been a long uphill battle trying to find this guy! I have been for years amassing western R-model parts with the intention of someday duplicating this truck as close to original as possible. I could "eyeball" the paint colors and some of the detail work,but this truck had some very un-usual pin-stripe/paint separation lines that i would need a close-up photo to duplicate (think 70's "fogged" panel paint).........Mark

If i was going to build a truck from scratch,(as i intend to) it would look a lot like this one! this is my "dream truck" the search for info on/about this particular truck was what lead me to this website in the first place! and was the topic of one of my very first posts, Rob was one of the first people to reply with what info he had on it, i have been trying to track down the original owner of this truck for YEARS! to see if any more photos,specs.,paint codes colors etc. still exist...............Mark

  8. RFC, you may be on to something! sure looks a lot like the only picture i could find of a Cline truck,especially the step-ladder under the cab, and the steering shaft extending out of the bottom of the cab......pretty close no?.........Mark

  10. I agree,i know its not MY truck,but i don't why these guys that restore a classic truck have to get so carried away! i mean all those lights and crap,looks like a dam circus wagon! I do agree that the modern mechanical upgrades are warranted IE: air-ride,power steering,AC etc. both from a practical and safety standpoint.But why "goober" it all up with all that other BS? i appreaciate nice work and good craftsmanship myself,but quality work,attention to detail are more important then flashy paint and a million lights! and like Trent said,setting a B-75 cab on a late model Pete frame does'nt count as a $100,000 restoration (in my eyes anyway) kinda "bastardizes" it for me LOL!......you would'nt put a 351 Cleveland in a Corvette would you?...........Mark

The one i'm talking about was an old schnieder truck,that cabover IH with the set back steer axle,looked like it has been sitting for a while,i had just woke up,poked my head out of the bunk just in time to see this guy standing on the frame, sprayed a WHOLE CAN of ether in the air intake,climbed down,got in the truck and started cranking! it cranked for a few seconds then BAMMM!!!!! piece of one of the connecting rods was laying on the ground when i went inside for coffee,the guy asked me if i knew anything about trucks when i walked by,and if the part was "important" i said "yeah kinda!" smiled and walked on in!........Mark

I never had any real need for starting aids, ether etc. with a "modern" engine,thing that bothers me the most now is seeing "newbies" fire-up a "cold" engine,and just run it up right away! hammering,banging,bucking! makes me cringe! had i done this to one of Pop's trucks growing up,i prolly woyld'nt be here to relate this story!.....firm believer in a a good "warm-up"....hell,i've seen guys spray an entire can of ether in a truck trying to start it all in one shot!.........Mark

I backhauled a load of groceries out of Buffalo,NY to Salisbury,NC (food lion) not too long ago, 22 pallets (all the same product) arrived at midnight before the day of delivery,for a 6am appt.,got backed into a door at 1:00pm, had to use a "lumper" service,cost (to Clark transfer $250.00) restacked onto smaller pallets,1 box short,1 box damaged,ended up leaving at approx 9PM that night! food warehouses are a damn nightmare! and they wonder why you get pissed off!......Mark

Most of the people i deal with are pretty decent,its the "big box" stores i dont like going to,Home depot,Lowes always some kind of BS! i agree though,my dad pulled a reefer all his life,i tried it for a while,hated it! i never had anybody refuse furniture cause it had some brown spots on it! its no wonder why food costs so much with all the shit that goes on in the food/grocery business!....Mark

  21. I'm right there with you on that! i got nothing to prove to nobody! gets bad anymore i shut down too,just not worth it. Most of the time i'm "light" so i dont do real well as far as traction goes. plus i dont see as well as i used to especially at night,i do prefer to drive at night when theres less traffic.but thats not always an option with what i do now,then of course if you're not at a truckstop by 2-3 in the afternoon,chances are you aint gonna find a spot to park anyway! even worse in bad weather...Mark

I agree, "ol fred" looks like a pretty stout little truck! i always liked the "R" series internationals, i had a cousin (deceased now) who was in the towing business up in new jersey he was a dye in the wool "Holmes man",when i got out of school he offered me a job, which i did'nt accept,thinking back now,kinda' wish i did, i have always been interested in the towing/recovery bus. thought i would have been good at it. I am a person who enjoys a challenge,likes to solve problems,mechanically minded etc. but,my family needed me on the farm,so i ended up on the road. Trucking in general has been good to my family for 3 generations now,though it has its good/bad points just like anything else! of course "freelance" gynocologyst does'nt sound all that bad either!............Mark

One of my best friends was an ex O.D hauler,pulled a step-deck for years before he came to clark,he tried for years before he retired to get me to go in partners with him hauling oversize loads,he said as "anal" as i am about some things, i would be perfect for the job! well,i had to move a flatbed once from St.louis to Philadelphia,he took a picture of me hooked up to the flatbed,never let me forget it! when i delivered the load,it had a GIANT one piece tarp covering it,i got it rolled up to about the size of the Hindenburg! had to strap it to the empty trailer! my first and last experience with flatbedding!....Mark
