It happens! LOL! i stopped for fuel one night,right after i first got my truck,had to "pee" pretty bad,was gonna run in and take care of that first,when i jumped out,i accidentaly hit the power door lock (un-beknownst to me) came back out,trucks running mind you,DAMN! my keys are in my jacket pocket on the back of the pass. seat,and its about 5 degrees out! had to borrow some tools to take the "peep"window out of the pass. side door,and of course its too cold to put it back in with the gasket being so stiff! long story short,now theres an extra key zip tied to the firewall!......Mark

LOL! know what you mean! i drove an Astro early in my career,it was actually a pretty good truck,formula 300 cummins,9 spd. single axle,REALLY good visibility,turning radius etc. Only thing i did'nt care for was the "wrap around" dashboard,made it really difficult to get in/out of the sleeper,takes some practice to learn how to get dressed laying down!..............Mark

Thats quite right, Titan 90,was the chevrolet equivenlent of the GMC Astro 95, Bison was the chevy branded version of the GMC General, next in line was the lighter duty GMC brigadier, the lighter chevy version was called the bruin (like the bear)............Mark

Personally,i would continue my search for a more suitable truck for this type endeavor,i mean when's the last time you saw another General? parts availability has to factor in,replacement parts for a GMC general specific are damn near non-existant anymore. What are the specs.? is this truck set up for this type work,or is it a converted OTR tractor? IE: Air-ride,aluminum frame,trans.,engine etc. Even in your comfort zone(price/agewise) my thinking is something a little more current may be a better choice, although it is hard for me to recommend anything but a Mack, IH does come to mind as far as parts availabilty/service, even a heavier duty L-series Ford in my opinion would be a better choice as they literally made thousands of them! while a General is a fairly rare bird these days! I am a firn believer in the right truck for the job,and keep in mind this is just my considered opinion,there may be others that disagree. Hope this is of some help!..................Mark

larry,got some good ideas as far as the sealant between cab/sleeper? boot etc. just curious because every truck i ever drove where the cab and sleeper are separate,there were always leaking issues,just a heads up,because after all that work.i'm sure you dont want to take it all back apart!........Mark

I remember a few towing outfits in jersey that had trucks like this,my cousin (Helmrich towing) had an older one (1960) ex-navy heavy recovery and Guaranteed up in north jersey had one similar,which i believe was sold to High point garage up in union,NJ................

Hey Randy i hear ya'! i get so tired of all this "reality TV" BS! their all about the same anymore Ax-men,American loggers,IRT just BS done all for the benefit of the cameras. Maybe its the jersey in me,but the first season of IRT ,when that fat-ass "polarbear" blowhard said he would'nt fix the heater in that one guys truck (i know he was a whiny bastard!) he'da got my foot in his ass when i got back! I was taught respect by my elders,and have usually managed to do so,BUT I'LL BE DAMNED IF ANYBODIES GONNA'TALK TO ME LIKE THAT! PERIOD! If these TV people are so hard up for reality,maybe they should go look for a guy that works two jobs 7 days a week to keep his family fed,and a roof over their head! not some drunken assholes at the "jersey shore" or spoiled rich housewives in L.A! i dont know where the get the idea that this is reality,but i think their talking to the wrong people! know what i mean?.........Mark

I've never seen trucks towed like this,most of the ones i see now are still decked,but i also see a lot of those truck/trailer thingamabobs where 2 trucks are connected with a small single axle trailer with kingpins at both ends,so both fifthwheels are used to attach the tractors,and there is usually a pickup riding on the trailer which i assume can later be used to tow the trailer after delivery of the trucks. Always thought it was a pretty ingenious idea,but does limit the transport to 2 trucks at a time.......Mark

Might just take you up on that sometime! traveling such as i do does allow me to do some "regional" shopping,i can usually pick up things we like that are unavailable here.....i was suprized to find out the contents of a "local" Italian sub sammich contains baloney! BLASPHEMY up north! LOL!.....been quite a while since i've been to peoria,last time i was there,i delivered some new shelves/store fixtures to the CAT outlet/company store downtown.......Mark

Yeah it is a small world! that maybe matt,have'nt been in contact with the family for quite awhile. Smith mountain lake is 35-40 miles north of here,real nice area.We have been up there several times to spend the day. I got a buddy used to drive for Donio,ran a 3 tone brown GMC astro,used to run buffalo pretty regular,has his own truck now,primarily runs Philly/baltimore, now goes mostly to Safeway,Wegmans,Giant etc. you're right! we DO miss being able to go to a diner,get some some good food anytime of the day! not the case down here! EVERYTHING has "gravy" on it LOL! computers arent my thing either,but there are some real good people on here will help anyway they can! Just make sure you have a thick skin,a good sense of humor!.................Mark

Hey Bob,i was a household mover for almost 20 years,so i spent a LOT of time up at Ft,Dix/Mcgiure AFB! Wrightstown,Pemberton etc. and also down at the Cape may Coastguard base. My dad ran produce out of the "block" in Vineland almost his entire career,so i know a great deal of people in that area in the trucking business.He loaded a lot of blueberries in Hammonton,he also ran a lot of Hunts point,Bronx etc. Believe it or not,my aunt and uncle live right across the street from the cairiones in Malaga! matts son Barry (i believe) had an R-model,pulled an end-dump around SJ,eastern PA. I believe he has something to do with schoolbus maintenence now. We moved down here almost 4 years ago now,i haul furniture/store fixtures out of Martinsville,VA so it made sense to live closer to my outbound freight,we kinda do miss jersey though! just not the taxes,BS,so-forth! just cant get a good Cheesesteak down here!,NO tastykakes! LOL! there is a few truck shows around,i will get in touch with some of my pals,see if i can get some particulars...............Mark
