  1. Just for the record,in 2011 there is really no such thing as a "100 percent" Mack truck available for order, parts numbers are going to W.I.D (world ID) in line with Vulvas global marketing strategy, not an intirely bad idea (in my opinion) but an "all mack "has gone the way of KW,Peterbilt (PACCAR), International-harvester,(Navistar) Freightliner (who knows?) etc. I am sure that the Mack name/brand will endure for a LONG,LONG time as it has become part of American tradition and popular culture........The phrase "Built like a mack truck" means just that!........Mark
  2. LOL! thats one of the reasons i posted the picture, the truck has an integral sleeper, but the guy on the right appears to be taller than the truck is wide! I give those oldtimers all the credit in the world! i mean even today, truckings not an "easy" job,but i can just imagine what it was like back then! My grandad ran produce from NJ to Boston in the thirties in a Mack AK-6,sometimes he'd be gone 2-3 weeks,no sleeper,no heat,no nothing! a trip i can easily do up and back in a days time.......Mark
  3. I was thinking it was a diamond T,pretty obscure model though, i have only ever seen 2 or 3 like this one....have to look closely but there is a diamond T emblem just above the center of the bumper....Mark
  4. Took me a LONG time to figger out how to post pictures (with my wifes help) still getting the hang of it! i hope you can,i would like to see your brockway!....Mark
  5. My thinking is this,"better safe than sorry" i do not think you will encounter much if any problems at all, especially since you will be empty and the truck is not going to be used commercially. The only state on your trip that concerns me is new hampshire, there are several roads that reqiure permits for ANY commercial vehicle entering the state, same with vermont this is usually an overall lenght issue,so you should be fine, although me personally, i would check with the DOT in both states just to make sure. The laws vary so much in their interpretation state to state,it's hard to keep a handle on whats what! i've been a commercial driver almost 30 years and i STILL dont understand all the variants! but i have allways been compliant, run good clean ,safe equipment NEVER had any real problems. It seems to me you have done your research, and have all your ducks in a row! I have driven fellow ATHS members trucks to shows, and retrieved trucks in neighboring states many times with no problems whatsoever. Hope this is some help to you!......................Mark
  6. I usually consider myself to be a pretty fair hand at identifying old trucks, but i came across this one today and it has me puzzled.....any ideas? make/model? only info in the original photo,is that it was taken in the Akron,OH area in the 1930's my best guess is diamond T,i could have sworn Rob posted a picture of a similar truck with a family member standing in front of it sometime back........Mark
  7. Ernie,i talked to a guy down in tennesse over the summer that had one of A&D's old wreckers for sale B-67,re-powered with a 237,5-speed just could'nt get together on a price, guy wanted $24,000! i ran away laughing!...........Mark
  8. Man i can relate! i HATE lectrical'problems! i'm ok with a hot and a ground, but thats about as far as my lecrical'experttise goes! anything much more complicated then that an i'm screwed!....... Mark
  9. Just wanted to wish everyone a happy belated new year,as i was back on the road the day after christmas.......and was just wondering if anyone got any MACK goodies from Santa this year! (seen Rob made out pretty good!)...............Mark
  10. Re-ringing the piston sounds like the next course of action to me ,if i had to guess, sounds to me like the fork is not engaging fully, therefore not allowing the trans.to fully make the change. I had a similar problem years ago with my MH- cabover, but it turned out to be nothing more than a line kinked up under the cab that had apparently happened when the tilted cab was put back down after a PM........just a thought....Mark
  11. I saw a video on the news while i was up there,of a front-end loader DESTROYING a parked SUV in new york while trying to pull out a stuck garbage truck/snowplow! if i can find it i will post it...Mark

    Snow!

Just returned home, left the day after christmas headed up to my former home state (jersey) late sunday night, start get hammered with snow in south jersey (nothing to worry about,it HAS snowed here before!) well long story short, blizzard conditions,40-45 mph winds...so i drop in to visit my mom,by now its getting much worse, most of my customers are closed, the ones that are'nt i cant get to! NJTPK (turnpike) GSP (parkway) are both closed temporarily. Of course most of my stops are along the east coast of NJ this trip,(the hardest hit by the storm) Monnmouth county got 31",parts of Ocean county got 34"! a lot of the roads remained un-touched into friday/saturday! i ended up getting stuck on a patch of ice in a shopping center parking lot, while i was digging out, putting down salt, ended up slipping, taking a pretty nice spill, busted my ass but good! black and blue, sore as hell, knocked the wind outta' me! got to visit the ER for a second time this year!.....getting tired of the dam snow is an understatement!........Mark
  13. Glad to hear it! me neither strangely enough! i am curious to see what "mommas" big purchase at the truck parts place was!.............Mark
  14. Well luckily the Ridgeway truckstop has remained open, even saw Sonny pruitt there getting fuel, evidently he has taken up pulling a step-deck,instead of solving crimes and helping people!.........Mark
  15. We got hammered here too! got a tree down,my road is a sheet of ice! worst thing is i'm supposed to leave today, tried to get out (bobtail)truck just dont wanna'go!....tired of the dam snow already! dog sems to be the only one that loves the snow!....Mark
  16. That is a good looking truck! i did like mine other than the ride,it was a good driving/handling truck....but i have to admit,my current CX is THE best riding truck i have ever driven! and i'm not just saying that cause' i'm a "mack man"...............Mark
  17. Thought i seen sheriff otherdogs long lost brother when i passed through hazzard the other day,coincedence?..............
  18. The unknown truckdriver? was'nt you on the "gong show" back in the seventies?
  19. We always try to watch some of the twilight zone marathon on new years day! my favorite ones are the one with Burgess meredith,"time now,to read"(where he breaks his glasses)...and the one with William shatner, with the "boogeyman" tearing up the airplane!
  20. I like it! kinda' looks like christmas lights with the flash....when i lived in jersey, there was a guy near me that ran a backhoe, dumptruck business, every year he would light up an old autocar dumptruck in his frontyard, even had those motion lights strung around the tires so it looked like it was moving! sure wish i had taken a picture of it! Vulva/KW dealer up in roanoke has one done up like that, sure is purty at night! LOL!...............Mark
  21. I sure enjoyed the latest episode of "rhaslerpiece theatre"! kinda' reminds me of my favorite TV show when i was a kid (dragnet) can almost hear that theme music DUT DA DA DUT DUT DA DA........................Merry christmas! Mark
  22. I wish they would just go ahead and make SOME kind of final ruling on this! you need a dam degree in quantam physics to figure it all out! me personally,i always thought 12 on (any combination on duty/driving-sleeper/off duty) would make the most sense,i pretty much still work off the old 10/8,just been doing it that way for so many years its hard to get used to the changes...sometimes you can't teach an old dog new tricks!
  23. I kinda' found it by accident, was looking for a picture of an astro, ended up there!
  24. http://www.caboverkings.com/ Some pretty neat cabovers here, couple of good stories as well!...Mark
  25. No,no real problems with the one i drove,we got 4 of them all speced the same, battleship gray interior, very "spartan" inside, but a "bulletproof" truck nonetheless, these were some of the least problematic trucks we had at the time, the freightliner cabovers that proceeded them were absoulute junk! fit/finish was terrible, the windshields leaked, numerous electrical problems,runs/sags in the factory paint,"welfare" heat/AC (sometimes it worked, sometimes it did'nt!) this was one of the deciding factors in me buying my first truck, got tired of driving someone elses headache!.............Mark
