  1. With all the "wacky" countries amassing nuclear weapons these days,i envision something like this.............
  2. Man i miss those days as well!,i can remember going in to our local mack dealer and they actually had what you wanted in stock! knew what it was, where it went, and usually could offer install advise/tips! nowadays they have NOTHING in stock, and i mean nothing! unless you want a hat or a license plate frame! i mean this dealer stocked frame rails, fuel tanks, rears, hoods, trimmed cabs on pallets! the guy i'm talking about is still the parts guy for the company that bought out the mack dealer, is still there, still does things "old school" only uses the computer when he has to. And he does'nt need the last 6 of my VIN# to look up a part! when i ask for an oil filter for an 01' CX,thats what i get! guys like this are getting fewer and farther between thats for sure! me personally,i think people today rely on computers to do too much of their thinking for them! so if you ever find youself in south jersey and are in need of a mack part,be sure to give melvin street (streetzy) at bergeys truck center(formerly horner mack) in vineland,NJ a call! if he can't find what you want nobody can!.......Mark
  3. My uncle mack (really) was a master plumber for about 50 years, when he hired a new apprentice this was always his advise......the only three things you need to know about plumbing is this.........1) "Shit don't flow uphill" 2) "Don't bite your fingernails" 3) "Friday is payday".............................Mark
  4. There is quite a resemblance now that you mention it!............Mark
  5. Hey joe you're right! all animals have a place in this world (right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy!).......Mark
  6. Jocko,i agree with rob on this subject, i also have seen good and bad work come out of so called "production" shops such as maaco. They normally do hire in-expierienced people to keep the costs low, but of course quality suffers. I have been doing paint/bodywork more or less as a hobby for 20 plus years, and if i were in your situation, what i would do is search out a reputable local bodyshop, talk to them, employees etc. chances are you will find someone willing to take on a project like this as a "sidejob" ie: time,materials,labor..in essense the more you can do yourself as far as prep work etc. the less the job will cost you. MOST guys that do body and paint work are proud of what they have done,so chances are you will have a "portfolio" to look at of previous jobs. There is also the option of vocational school part time, which is the route i took, a lot can be learned in a short time if someone is willing to learn....just a suggestion..i recently repainted the bumper cover on my CX,and my pickup about 5 years ago with good results for not being professionally trained.....Mark
  7. Well it could be worse, deer, cows all not much of real problem.....now are you SURE it was not this you saw in the backyard? if so, i believe this would be a job for the trusty old #1 ruger .458 winchester magnum!................Mark
  8. Makes me angry to see pictures like this! these people are allready here illegally, are bleeding the social security system and the economy dry, but i guess they need to add insult to injury by defacing our flag! its a good thing i have never seen anything like this in person, because i would probably be serving my jail sentence right now! but i guess they figure if they DO get thrown in jail they will get 3 hots and a cot, free healthcare, and get to stay in the country as our(taxpayer) guests! so we end up paying for them one way or the other! guess we should just go ahead and annex mexico,as most of its citizens ,and a lot of our former jobs are allready here!..........Mark
  9. This is what i see in MY "magic mirror" LOL!..................Mark
  10. APA had a single axle U-model at the philly terminal with a hydralic fifth wheel,i used to come in and spot trailers on saturdays sometimes, and let me tell you,i was a BLINDSIDIN' S.O.B! LMAO!.............Mark
  11. HOLY (expletive)! that is one UGLY so and so right there! LMAO!..............Mark
  12. I don't know, don't know too much about them, i thought they kinda' looked like a "W" series ford C/O to me maybe a little like a KW cabover?......Mark
  13. Was looking around hanks truck pictures, and came across these......started to do i little research because my local volunteer fire dept.has one that they use to pull their tanker with, all steel welded cab! built like a tank! these things musta'weighed a ton! but kind of an interesting truck, i've only ever seen a handful of them in person.............Mark
  14. I always thought the diamond reo conventionals were good looking trucks myself.............Mark
  15. Hey ernie,i did'nt know you was a mopar guy! heres one you might like,i took this at the mid-america truck show couple years ago.......Mark
  16. I rememeber a time when a move of this type would have been absoulutely done by a MACK TRUCK! allentown would not have had it any other way! something as iconic as the corperate bulldog should have been moved on a MACK! there are people still left in the world that would have done it out of loyalty or respect (at no or little charge)........Myself included! it's a real shame to see all the rich history of MACK slowly eaten away by V***VO and their corperate raider mentality. allentown,PA and sweden are worlds apart, both literally and figuratively! i read an article in the sunday paper this week, stating V***VO will be down in my area making a heavy truck TV commercial...GREAT! just what we need! another company hawking their junk!.....................Mark
  17. GREAT movie! a classic!............Mark
  18. Hey ernie, yeah i remember arthur, only met him one time at the CO. picnic, tell ya the truth,i did'nt even know he was still alive! my uncle (APA's philly terminal manager) told me "you ever see a tall, skinny, weird looking guy around here, get to work!,its probably arthur imperatore!" gotta, say though, he treated his guys good, most of them did a days work too! GEEZ! i think that guy that ran the 359 brockway out of allentown was there 100 years!.....Mark
  19. I use the MACK branded batteries in mine, never had any problems with them, seem to hold up pretty good. I pull a trailer with a lifgate,so the tractor batteries charge the dedicated battery in the trailer, never had a problem........know what you mean about the jumpstart! can be pretty pricey out that way! luckily, never needed one !...........Mark
  20. Hey ernie, you called that right on the nose! i remember the CF combinations you talked about, they were the scourge of the DOT in jersey back then! i always wondered how CF got away with running those! i saw quite a few of those running 78 into PA when i was younger, "looked" a lot like a truck/trailer, but like you said they really were a tractor/trailer.........Mark
  21. I believe this picture is from the shop of P.I.E (pacific intermountain express) they among several other trucking companies experimented with the cummins "pancake" engine, these were mostly long wheelbase units fitted with a large dromedary box (to help "skirt" the legal length laws) making the combination a true truck and trailer, instead of a tractor-trailer. the "pancake" or horizontal cummins ,was fitted in several makes of trucks, freightliner,KW,peterbilts and from what i have learned gave good service. When the overall length law was repealed, there was no longer any need for this type combination,so most were sold or scrapped,P.I.E was a pioneer in the overseas container industry, converting many of the used drom boxes into 28' containers, some pictures i've seen, they still have the marker lights on them!.............Mark
  22. Whata' they say? great minds think alike? LOL! Mark
  23. Looks like they use internationals now, this was the only picture i could find.......the macks i saw were all red.............Mark
  24. I do believe a single axle superliner is somewhat of a rarity, the only ones i can remember seeing were the ones used by anheuser-busch back in the 80's to haul around the budwieser clydesdales, they had a least 4 that i saw, among other make trucks as well, but unlike this one, these were exceptionaly clean and well maintained, really sharp trucks!.......Mark
  25. MMMMMMUUUUAHAHAH! don't be fraid' of no "booger man" LMAO!.............Mark
