Looks like I'm gonna have a day off today! I'm just south of Atlanta this morning, and this area is paralyzed! Most of my stops are closed, can't get to them anyway! "Rare southern snow-storm cripples south" NO SHIT!!!!! I figured that out all by myself! LOL!.............................................Mark

I think that is a fairly recent picture,if you look closely there is a late model Chevy or GMC pickup behind the F's in the first picture........they sure look in good shape!...............................Mark

I remember the issues with the Brockways, always liked those pictures!..............................Mark

The rare 3 headlight model I see! wonder what's up with that?.....................................Mark

I hear ya Rob! I was in Jersey a couple years back when you had the blizzard, never saw the NJTPK closed or the GSP! there were still abandoned cars on the GSP,i ran up from the AC area up to around Freehold,Route 9 was also a Cluster***k! I think Chris Cristy got caught with his pants down (he was on vacation I think?) NJ101.5 was really raggin' on the guy! I think right then and there he made up his mind NOT to let that happen again!.......................Mark

Nice 67! I'm thinking that may be early enough to still see some flame out of the stack! that's a sharp truck!..........................................Mark -
Ron,my Dad used to fuel at Reinaurers when running Albany,he ran 17 north off the Turnpike up to the Thruway (remember when 17 had traffic lights?) what a joy! Lol! When I was a kid we stopped there to fuel, grab a bite to eat, when you bought a certain amount of fuel (I think $100.00) you could "Pick a prize"! It ended up being my second Winross truck,a Phillips 66 5000 White C.O.E which I still have now!............I also remember there being a small bar/tavern walking distance from the truckstop that had real good sandwiches etc. long before 287 was finished!.............................Mark

Al,i still have a wooden token from Bill & Effie's BOOMTOWN good for one free cup of coffee (on your next visit!) I haven't been that far west in a few years now,but last time I was there they still had a pretty decent breakfast buffet. The 49'er east of Frisco, was another story! last time in there it was owned by towelheads, filthy showers the restaurant was closed for "remodeling" (de-bugging was my guess) and charged $20.00 per night (non-fueling) to park! haven't been back since!................................Mark

Technically not a truckstop, but I always liked to stop at the Mars Cheese Castle in Kenosha,WI,loved the "sample platter" and a good place to buy real German Mustard!............problem was, most of the treats I bought never made it home!....................Mark

I sure do Al! funny you should mention him, once my Dad was in Jarrells listening to the live broadcast, and was asked a trivia question.................."How many wheels does an eighteen wheeler have?"............My Dad answered "Why 21 of course, everyone knows that"...................Flywheel,Steering Wheel, and Fifth Wheel! IIRC he won a Fifty dollar gift certificate to Truck Enterprises Richmond,VA (a KW dealer) I don't know if he ever used it or not!...........................Mark

The one truckstop that sticks in my mind that went "over and above" for me,was the Duke Travel Plaza at the intersection of OH 79 and I-70 in Buckeye Lake OH. Many years ago,i stopped in there one night and I was sick as a dog with the flu! all I wanted was to get out of that truck, get a room to lay down and go to sleep, they at the time also operated a small motel adjacent to the truckstop,I checked in,and the lady at the desk said "you don't look so good bud!" told her I felt like I had died and no-one told me! Went to the room, cranked up the heat and passed out! Lady was kind enough to go to the store and get me some cold/flu medicine and some home-made vegetable beef soup! their whole staff checked on me that weekend to make sure I was alright. Something I never forgot! not too many people today would go out of their way to help a stranger, especially one as strange as me ! LOL! Dukes went out of business in 2008-9 I believe, there is what appears to be an asphalt plant on the property now,but I haven't been out that way in a couple years.............Mark

I was only there once when it was still open,i delivered in the area, and it was pretty much the "dump" it was advertised to be in Overdrive Mass 10 Truckstop,I do remember the restaurant across the street had pretty good food Yankee something or other I think it was called......................Mark

Yardo,I sure remember the Wagon Wheel! I used to run 41 north out of Delaware,up to 30 then 283 out to Harrisburg west to get on the Turnpike, one place I have always liked and still do is Jennies Diner in Ronks (Lancaster,PA) I stop there every time I'm in the area, still one of the best breakfasts around in my opinion!..............................Mark
-
Your're right Ron! I only stopped there because there was usually parking available!................................Mark
-
I don't remember Top Value stamps, but I do remember Gold Bond? stamps............there are still a few books of S&H greenstamps in my Dads things!.....................Mark
-
That the one used to be across from the Sheetz truckstop? if so you're right, that place is a real shithole now! Lol!......................................Mark
-
How about Speed & Briscoe? couple exits south of Jarrells, now a shithouse T/A................................Mark

Kelly's Truckstop Shreveport,LA I remember stopping there with my Dad when I was 7-8 years old one summer and they still had the "Kelly Girls" ( women dressed in bright orange jumpsuits) that would fuel your truck, check your oil/fluids,clean the windshield and mirrors,as well as sweep out the floor and empty the ashtray!........................Mark

Good idea for a topic Ken! i'll "get er' started" many oldtimers remember the famous or (in-famous) Rubes Jersey City Truckstop, place has been the subject of many tall tales over the years! A lot of the meat/produce haulers would hang out there after delivering to Hunts Point or the old Bronx Terminal Market...................................Mark
