  1. good luck with that one, most I have ever seen of Roadway R models was in Miami and they were bound for overseas
  2. I just love this whole thread, and the I want 12 grand for it but ill accept $2000 from the scrapper instead of a reasonable offer from a collector attitude also...
  3. thats a baby quad tho right Mike? a 77 series? have one of those in our 1963 B42s. the one I saw was a 72 series in a B81, even had the tag still in the cab that said 14 speed. I tink Dave Zsido use to have a B47 with the 465 engine and a baby 77 series quad.
  4. agree. keep it or find a way to write it off as collateral on your new business. mine is only a single axle, isn't turboed but I have been offered 35-40 grand for mine and still would not part with it. 10 grand is way too cheap for that truck unless you wanna give it away. take a look at ebay or craigslist. they want 6 grand + for work out old junk that needs a total restoration and a bunch of sheet metal that is getting harder and harder to find.
  5. I have actually seen a 14 speed quadbox and shifting pattern in a B81 someone scrapped. think the transmission is still layin in the weeds. must have been about the last B model off the line eh?
  6. news flash, Bartnicks is having an auction this sat. everything is going, even the old mans desk. no Macks left, they sold off their R model a few years ago. come to find out hey had two B model back in the day. my cousin stoppe today and managed to get a picture of a pictue of our old wrecker. they have tons and tons of pictures but they been in frames so long they are glued to the glass. they are looking for pictures of our B model in action.
  7. I agree with BC mack. the pushrod length needs to be right. it would be easier if you were takin off old service brakes and putting on maxi cans, you would just put the clevis on past where you need it and measure the old rod, and cut the new one to length. needs to be cut with the bolt in it if I remember or you can do what I do and screw a air nipple in them with a shut off, air them up til it releases and cut the rod to length and bleed the air off slow. you can buy just the piggy back portion of the chamber but its a pain in the ass and I think the last two I bought about a year ago for the whole chamber was $40 a piece and they were made in the usa, the china ones are cheaper.
  8. those narrow nose B75 and 73's are rare indeed. they did away with them and used the big radiator because they had major overheating problems back them. im sure tho with a modern radiator core and if your not working it, you might be able to cool a Cummins with the small radiator.
  9. nice wrecker on ebay and it was 690 serial numbers newer than mine. probably built in the same month.. B613T4452 and mine is B613T3762
  10. I never really figure out the 18 and 20 speed stuff. I now the 0 in 70 is overdrive and means it direct in 4th and over in 5th and then you don't use the two auxillary gears you get 18 . they started out with 20 speed direct quads then the 20 speed over the it went to an 18 speed over. one was a TRQ72 then there was TRQ720 and TRQ7220 and TRQ7210. I think the 7220 means double over and the 7210 is a single over. im probably wrong but someone will chime in.
  11. I believe that is the correct plate Al in the picture for a TRQ720. a TRQ72 would be direct in 5th. the TRQ720 is direct in 4th, over in 5th. I pretty much think a an 18 speed and 20 speed over is the same thing.
  12. I think the decimal point needs to be moved or he needs to drop a 0 off the end
  13. the front axle isn't an issue nor is the rear. most any B,R,A or L Mack axles would bolt into a firetruck. the treadle valve hurdle isn't that hard, just cut the hole and bolt it in the floor. any old air tank will do as long as it has enough capacity and with modern nylon lines, lines are easily ran. only major hurdle is a compressor. either have to upgrade the engine or add a belt driven compressor which isn't that hard either. my cousin and I are actually doin this conversion with a regular B20 truck. but of course we have a few parts trucks for doner parts.i have a 56 B475 firetruck that came from the Navy with a Hemi and actually have been thinkin about the brake system as its hydraulic and had Dodge axles. kinda dreading finding wheel cylinders and a hydrovac as this one wouldn't be as easily changed over to air
  14. the 1/25 version is a good choice also, they don't leak oil, you buy them once and that's the only money you spend on them but they grow on you and you need brothers and sisters for them and before you know it you have a house full of diecast Macks that you cant drive and your better half is sick of them just as much as if you bought the full size version.....
  15. pretty sure that red A model has a 237 and quad or triplex Joe. that truck is nice, has been done for years.
  16. tunnel wrecker like the B model Dennis Meehan had and sold a few years back that went to the Neatherlands I think? that MB is so short, the transmission might be connected to the rear end with just a single U joint.......
  17. im not totally against them, my friend even has a nice one with a Cummins on a 90 Dodge frame. but when you have been lookin for a restorable one for years and they are extinct it sucks to see them all turned into rat rods unless they are rotted to hell.
  18. uh! Ratrodded ? wtf? id kill for a dunnin A model and your gonna make it a ratrod??? I tried buyin the Red A54 Superdog has in a basket case many times, guy wouldn't sell it then took it apart and did. somehow Mike ended up with it. btw Mike, I found a picture of your truck the other day when it was ALL together
  19. god I hate seeing good useable Mack cabs being used for rat rod projects
  20. the green B model box truck is most definatey a B42 and looks saveable and the gas jobs weren't as beat as the diesels. the fenders on the B67 cut off looks decent also
  21. any older Mack engine could have a bad cam, could also be worn valve guides. have seen older 237's and 300's sound like they are skipping or the jake is stuck on from excessive Jake brake use and worn valve guides.
  22. yup Miller or Lincoln. don't waste your time with a POS from Harbor Freight. we have had a small 100amp Lincoln for about 20 years and still welds like a top. I think the new model is a 130 or 150
  23. anything with a 13 speed fuller is not a real Mack haha
  24. I kinda like the not so good ones. I have a soft spot for B models in distress...
