  1. yard horse pretty much. just a for a little help moving the big iron around
  2. always wanted one of those steel nose single axle R models. Town of Martinsburg Ny had 2 or 3 of them and one that was cherry along with a cherry B68 tandem axle about 12-15 years ago, last I knew they only used both trucks to haul sand in the summer and didn't see salt. both were like brand new when I saw them but they were getting rid of them because they were too old.... the B model was about a 63 and the R was an 86 or so. the B brought 5 grand I think and the r brought 7800. too much for my budget back then.
  3. thanks guys. got a few pictures of the way home also, up a few nasty hills and back down. had to drop her into 3rd low a time or two and make it bark. he got the wheel freed up today and in the garage. gotte pull the head off to fix the sticky valves then maybe she will run again.
  4. came from Prospect Ny Vinny but was at Dan hudons sled barn for sale. was at Stockhausers garage In prospect. think he might have had two tow trucks and one was in wheels of time or double clutch a few years ago for big money. he also ran a few dumptrucks I think. I believe the old man died and the wife sold everything off, go figure.....
  5. nope, I can get a few Jt. it has a swinging towbar on it but something is missing recently? not sure what was bolted on there but someone lifted it, no pun intentended. ill get pics today. definitely homemade wrecker body. ours on our B61 is similar and was ''rolled out'' by Utica Boilers in Utica Ny and welded together by Bartnicks garage in Utica. this truck has a very similar body and has me wondering
  6. juice brakes, someone did a lot of work to it, new hydrovac and lines and looks like wheel cylinders but it has one back wheel hung up. was a bitch to get off the trailer. pedal goes to the floor so I assume it leaks.i guess an older man owned it and he passed away and you guessed it, wife liquidated his collection...
  7. thanks Al. interesting wrecker body also. seems to have a miniaturized body like the one on our B61 that came from Bartnicks Garage in Utica. think the same guy must have made both of them.
  8. well didn't make it to Macktrucktoberfest like we had planned. spent too much on a retaining wall at the house this past month anyways. but did manage to drag this tow truck home this evening for my cousin. B30P with a homemade wrecker body and a 10 ton Tulsa winch on it. pretty solid old girl
  9. ugh, blasphemy haha. a B42 is the smallest B model with air brakes but some B30's had them optional. you would want at least a 505 or 517 or 522 front axle in a B42 or B61 for one ton of engine. the smaller B20s and B30's had really light front axles and springs. id say you want at least 11 leaf front springs also. most B42's had 8 or 9 leaves unless it was an SX dumptruck or heavy spec.
  10. 6.0 = gutless moneypit. 7.3= still be running after its gone thru 3 different bodies.
  11. Vinny when your young EVERY day is hump day, when we get older, we are lucky to get one Hump a week.......I think im talking about something different tho??
  12. god that has to be one of the best commericals ever. about a month or two ago when I first saw it the fam and I were sittin around drinkin just repeating it over and over.
  13. yup, argued with many people over the years that called them 10 speeds and I would say no its a 6 speed, its not meant to split every gear!
  14. 25? wow I remember those days like they were just yesterday, oh wait they almost were...
  15. upstate ny, about an hour west of Albany
  16. I agree with the road construction one. I hate when you are going thru the construction a few miles over the speed limit and someone is riding your ass.
  17. I have for sale a 1950's Fruehauf flatbed trailer. I believe by the numbers its around a 53. was an ex Gerosa trailer out of NYC. still has the Gerosa flaps. missin the original landing gear and has some cobbed on. pulls straight down the road, I hauled it about 45 miles home with two flat tires and no lights. needs a total restoration but its solid and all there. its worth at least $800 in scrap but id take offers. doesn't have a title but I have a bill of sale. its definitely restorable.
  18. the shutter side mouldings or the surround around the edge of the hood? Richie Zigmont has a pair of those shutters on ebay right now. I thought the stainless surround was still available from mack.
  19. just curious Vinny,, who are you talking about with the green B model??
  20. yea I love that one, or the one where your going the speed limit and no one is behind you then all of a sudden someone comes out of nowhere, rides your ass and refuses to pass you.
  21. I don't care how much drive the car does for them, at least 3 days out of 7 in a week I have what I call ''stupid people driving days'' idiots on the road everywhere. before I redid my B model, I was gonna buy a Softail Harley, im too scared to get on one now a days! we had the stoplight get hit in the middle of town a few weeks ago, they had to put up a 5 way stopsign. god you should see the people try to figure out who goes first. I hate when I come to a 4 way stop, im in the right, I come to the stop FIRST, I go to take off and so does someone else, never fails. my personal favorite it when you cruising down the highway in the slow lane going the limit, you cant move over cause there is a someone next to you but some asshole feels the need to come on the on ramp doin 75+ wanting to merge with no blinker on but they seem to think those on the highway already need to stop for them. I have a 2004 Silverado and had a 2001 before that, both had the imfamous wheel bearing issues that cause the ABS to come on everytime you hit the brakes. this in turn causes you to NOT be able to use the brakes and almost hit the person in front of you, yea , technology. along with that in the rustbest north we seem to have to replace overpriced wheel bearings every year. god, cars years ago the bearings would last a lifetime. I think all this crap that helps the idiots drive or not have to drive effects the rest of the smart people in the world.
  22. Mack made the early around 1953 B30's and B42's with separate drive shafts for each rear end. think the front rear end had a pinion bearing setup that the back shaft went thru. was called ''Spaghetti Drive ''in blue collar terms..
  23. frames started getting painted black on B models and other Macks in late 1961, early 1962. you could get a colored frame after that but it had to be special ordered. we have a few 1960's and the frames are geen and one 1961 and the frame is red. I have scrapped a few B61sx's with bad triple frames that were 1962's and they had black frames
  24. they were all made in Allentown regardless if it said New York, New York, Plainfield Nj or Montvale Nj on the door. believe this is just where the corporate offices were at the time along with engine and component plants. the cabs were made out west and shipped in and then dressed ad the trucks were assembled in Allentown. ive heard horror stories to of guys ordering B models brand new in company colors and they would be shipped out of Allentown in primer and painted at the dealer. heard some bad stuff about paintjobs out of East Syracuse Ny Mack sales lol.
  25. most ALL Macks except the bigger ones came with 3 5/8 spacers from the factory. this included B61's B42's etc single and tandem axles. I think when you got in the 44 and 55 rears they went to wider spacers because of the wider tires but the smaller trucks all came with 3 5/8. use to piss me off to take a tire off a mack and find the wrong spacers and all different wedges. it amazes me how someone can take a set of duals off and lose all the parts and replace them with something else. but they are right, 24.5's with bolt right in where you have you 22's now. you can reuse your wedges but after all these years its probably a good idea to get new spacers and nuts if they are worn.
