B model hinge rebuild
Maddog13407 replied to Shawn Barrett's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
most b models with the turbo air cleaner had 1/4 inch blocks welded in the backside of the hinge to stop the mirror from hittin the air cleaner. could be someone changed the hinges out over the years or added a turbo style cleaner? my B61 has the blocks but had the bigger tophat style bonnet on the cleaner and if you open the door with the vent window open the window hits the air cleaner top. been lookin for an original extension tube for it. also rebuilt my hinges with GM generic pins and bushins from the parts store. just reamed them out with a reamer and used new pins. triplex or quadbox shifting lever pictures?
Maddog13407 replied to Maddog13407's topic in Engine and Transmission
yeah with 4.00 gears and m y duplex with 711 i was pullin a little lowboy with another b model on it this past november. could never find the right gear and was never right. honestly the 10 speed direct was never right for the 711 period. never could get it in the powerband. think someone put an overdrive gear or two in the back half of the 10 speed. it never shifted right. now with the triplex, took it for a ride the other day when the roads were bare here in Ny and could pull away and keep with traffic between stoplights. really made a difference. of course the speedometer is all screwy now. had to get a new end put on the cable to fit the triplex as it had a smaller shaft on the drivegear, now the speedometer is off about 10-15 MPH. anyone know if i can just change the small drive gear? the duplex had 14 teeth on the small drivegear and the triplex has 13. was just gonna swap but didnt know if it would mesh with the big drive on the back of the tranny? its Matt Pfahl. he has lots of old Mack parts...

nothing at all. im a firm believer in saving them. my fiancee' almost hates takin rides cause she knows i will sniff and old truck out of the woodwork on some back road but i refuse to pay too much for an old b model and totally get pissed off when i get the ''if you dont wanna pay this ill scrap'' it line haha. i heard about these trucks last spring but after hearing the price was not interested. it would take all the sheetmetal off that B42 to get that b61 looking pretty again and the B66 although rare is not my cup of tea with the smaller cab plus would need the tranny and rears changed to even make road speed. for that price let them cut them up or export them. i dont know about you guys but cant stand when someone goes'' if someone does not buy it im gonna scrap it.'' boy that makes me wanna buy it even more. if it means that much to you to junk it for shit rates then junk it. just makes my b models worth more. i figure for all there they are worth about 4-5 grand and no more. a B66 or B67 no matter who owned it is not appealing to me because my beer gut wont fit behind the sterring wheel anyways haha. had a friend of mine send me picture of these truck early this spring as im about an hour away from them and then saw them posted on CL. i think whoever owns them is dreaming, 10,000 is way off the beaten path for the three of them as all of them need a full restoration and the B42 is probably only good for sheetmetal as the 401 is about good for a boat anchor and around town driving. sorry for my rant but just hate when people try to move along their sale by sayin if someone doesn not buy it im gonna scrap it or export it. triplex or quadbox shifting lever pictures?
Maddog13407 replied to Maddog13407's topic in Engine and Transmission
thanks for the pics guys. i love the straight out of the floor look but they kept crossing each other. guess thats what you get for piecing different trucks together ha. so far it has a 59 frame and cab, 60 b42 front sheet metal, 65 air cleaner,63 fuel tanks, 66 transmission, 75 engine, 1980 rear end out of an r model and front axle and spring from a B61SX . definately a two stick mutt... triplex or quadbox shifting lever pictures?
Maddog13407 replied to Maddog13407's topic in Engine and Transmission
thanks for the pics Larry. i have seen them bent at the floor and to the left and right and have also seen them bent to the left and right about half way up the stick. same with aluminum components in a B model. does not seem to be an rhyme or reason, every truck seems to be different. took my truck for a ride sunday since we seem to have spring type weather here in upstate NY, cruises alone really well and is more in the power band of the 711 with the triplex behind it rather than a duplex. with 4.00 gears it will do about 60 at 1300 r's. should be good for about 80 doesn the New York Stat thruway haha. dont even have the use overdrive/high split if you dont wanna and the triplex i got ahold of seems to be the quietest Mack tanny ive ever hear. dont think i ever drove one that didnt whine or whimper in low range haha. this one is dead silent. A B C R
Maddog13407 replied to Green Dash's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
was a BCR outside Boonville Ny by the Chevy dealer for years. was a tandem axle dump truck the guy was sellin parts off of. i knew it was a BCR because it had the old 673 with the single belt pulley on the engine and the front axle was narrower. the early R models still used a 505 and 517 front axle but were about 2'' wider than a B model i believe. truck might even still sit there. he also had a few B models that were on craigslist for outrageously high prices in the past year. Matt -
anyone have any pictures of what the levers looks like originally in a B model? recently replaced the duplex in my B613 with a triplex, used the same 5 speed stick and the two sticks were hitting and crossing each other. i heated them up and bent them apart but dont like the looks of them. have seen some sticks bent from the factory low and some auxillary levers bent high? would just like a pic of some original ones that have not been heated up and bent 100 different directions in the past 50 years.thanks, Matt

Truckpaper Macks
Maddog13407 replied to umodelnut's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
not a valueliner. they were a cheaper detuned r600 version in the 80's and 90's. thats actually a single axle R700LT. pretty rare and sharp truck actually. but i do agree could do without the paccar grille slats. prolly has an ETAZ673 300+ engine in it also. Matt -

FOR SALE real cool aluminum sleeper, crank out windows, perfect for LTL
Maddog13407 replied to turboscan's topic in Parts for Sale
ok, i gotta ask, when putting a 300+ under the hood of a B61 do most of you guys do away with the intercooler and turn it into a 237? have seen a few with a scoop on the hood. kinda think i saw Rons truck before at a show. does it have a scoop and say 300+ on the hood scoop? have seen a few guys run the air tube from the intercooler down and under the bumper to. and have seen it y piped into the air cleaner tube but i dont think your gonna get much power out of a B model 4'' air cleaner intake and y piping a 6'' intercooler pipe and 4'' turbo air intake into it. just askin ha. might be a future project. Aluminum hood
Maddog13407 replied to MACKTRUCKS4's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
also seen a B50P in a scrap yard that had all aluminum spring hangers, steering column, air tanks, valve covers, even the brace under the dash from the firewall to the steering column was aluminum. only one i ever seen. truck was rough but saveable complete with wnch behind cab and original dumping flatbed. have a picture of it somewhere. was a 1954. was in one of those famous scrap yards that you can look at but never get the bastards to sell anything. tried to buy it several times. old man ended up dieing and son in law sold everything to a big scrapper for $80 a ton. last time a saw the truck they pushed the top of cab down to the frame with a 345 CAT trackhoe.i did manage to save the sharp pointed eared bulldog off it. offered the asshole $10 to save his ass. miserable guy said youll never get it off, went in my trunk and took out a hacksaw and cut it off, under the m mount of course and took the bolt stubs out with vise grips. ruined many good trucks, even 53-56 ford customs with nempco conversions, many heavy B61SX dumptrucks along with about 15 B61T's and a few very early 1965 R models. -
Aluminum hood
Maddog13407 replied to MACKTRUCKS4's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
seen a few aluminum hoods on regular b models over the years. one of my great grandfathers B62's had an aluminum hood i believe. Doug Fetterly's B61 integral sleeper has an aluminum hood also. doesnt seem to be any specific truck that it was used on, kinda random but i know most of the B75 series was aluminum. Matt -
D J Smith out near Marcellus Ny had a crap load of those Michigan loaders when i was out there about ten years ago. also had every B model mack n a 150 mile radius in his yard. The old man died in the last few years. think his kids are cleanin up a lot of stuff least thats what Doug Fetterly told me. believe he also had a few M ichigans with Mack engines in them. he loved the Michigans cause he said you could bolt any engine in them pretty easy.

recently took the duplex out of my B613T and replaced it with a Trt722 triplex. this truck had a triplex originally anyways. the duplex i took out was said to be a 10 speed direct but i believe was a mixmatch of gears cause you could Rarely shift the auxillary without clash. i think someone put an overdrive backhalf from a 9 speed or 10 speed overdrive onto a 10 speed direct. anyways with 4.00 gears on 11 24.5's and a 711 it would do 70 against the governor. anyonbe have an idea what it will do now with the triplex or will it be the same? also are all 15 speed Triplex's overdrive and the 13 speeds are double over? Also what was the abreviation for a double overdrive? Trt7220? and the singles were Trt 720? and mine isnt overdrive? just wondering. thanks, Matt

WANT TO BUY Wanted- 1975 U model Air Cleaner Can
Maddog13407 replied to umodelnut's topic in Parts Wanted
does this have the one inlet? if so its still available from Mack for an R model. its made by Fram tho and not Donaldson anymore. was about $180 brand new about a year or so ago. Matt -
youll need the cross shaft from a diesel truck that goes thru the spring hanger for the cluch as the keyway slots are in different spots for the linkage from a b42 to a b61 if you choose to go with the orignal b model clutch pedal.

WANT TO BUY Need six cylinder gas engine and parts
Maddog13407 replied to mack l model's topic in Parts Wanted
108 thousand miles on a en401? thats about the life expectancy for one of those. 401 and 402 was basicaly the same engine. just two more head studs in the corners. -
that sleeper cab b61st is awesome. definately a very early ones. never seen a b model with an aluminum trunnion like that one and you can tell its a 53-56 cause it has the raised crossmember for the rear suspension. definately worth saving but not worth $5000. remember most of us are working stiffs and just wanna have and save as many of these beauties as possible haha.

Western F on Rockford Files
Maddog13407 replied to Doug Maney's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
nice truck, just got all seasons of old Jimmy Rockford for x mas this year. almost thru season 4 haha. nice trucks. definately two of them. one at the end didnt have the light on the bumper they showed 10 times and the bulldogs on the door were painted over in blue. also one truck had quarter fenders and other didnt. still both really nice truck. ANY old Mack steering wheel seems to be rare now a days. Matt -
pretty nice set of parts there, few turbo air cleaners and the single axle truck looks pretty solid. has the old school riker muffler on it by the looks of it. sleeper cab b model is worth it no matter how rough it is, looks to be a 52 54 or 55 truck with the radio delete plate in the dash. also looks like it has a straight 5 with a 3 speed auxillary in it, kinda old fashioned before the ''married'' boxes got popular.the green truck cab looks pretty solid and the red one has some good parts on it even tho it looks pretty rotted, Matt
