definately sounds like the shoes are glazed over as the 'drum' style parking brake in a b model will usuauly skid the back tires or lock on so tightley you wont be able to move the truck. this was one of the best set ups in the 50's and 60's. a big step up from the 'junk' parking brake style on the 77series transmissions. the 67 and 72 series parkin brakes would hold the truck ona hill with good lining. anyone else notice the different radiator shell on that red Lj tractor with the cummins engine in it? doesnt have the center strip in the shutters and looks flat on top and fron kinda like a B model shell? Matt

dont seen any fender entensions. isnt that a B615 not a B75? jw. either way i love the Kentucky radiator as we call em up north . would love a B75/ tried to buy one last year, single axle, 673 turbo with triplex singlke axle tractor. offered the guy $2000, he wanted $5500. it was well worth 2000 as it needed a cab but nowhere near 5500. went by there recently where it sat along side a steel nosed Dm and a few big Cat scrapers. looks like he scrapped everything. all that was left was a pile of tires. he probably got $1800 tops for junk. some people amaze me. matt

I 88 in New york State from Binghamton to oneonta, othewise known as the thump thump road. they are repaving it now but you use to have to to change lanes from side to side to find a good piece of pavement. matt

heard many stories of upstate ny winter in Long lake Ny hauling logs with B62SX Macks. my great grandfather would leave them running all night long cause they would never start in the morning and they would have to start a fire under the rear end housings to get the trucks to move in the moring cause all that was warm was the engine and transmission gear oil, Matt

speaking of the extension pipe. anyone have an original b model air cleaner extension tube? thanks, Matt

seen the ''turbo'' air cleaner on mostly trucks with 711's in them. either that or the 711 trucks had a air cleaner similar to the gas job air cleaner but was a little bigger in diameter. usually the turbo trucks had stops in the passenger door hinge so the mirror bracket wouldnt hit the air cleaner top. also the older b's seemed to have the smaller air cleaner bonnet on top while 59 and up or so had the ''top hat'' as i call it cover like my B613 has. they are the same from case. someone probably split the case and bought one from Mack or had one laying around. my B613 had a cracked case and we stripped out a worn out quadbox and put the duplex gears in it and the duplex back half on it.the aluminum thing i have never figured out. have sen B61LT's with half case aluminum, both cases aluminum front and back and some just the top cover. also seen some aluminum top covers front and rear on quadboxes and triplexes that werent even in Lt trucks. sometimes i think Mack used whatever was handy lol. by looking at the fuel tank brackets, where the signal lights are on the fenders and the dash guages id guess that truck is early to mif 50's. Mack changed the fuel tank brackets in late 58 early 59 to the style with the bolts out twards the end more and the shorter straps. also moved the air horn to the side and off the pedestal and any b model before 1960 would have a fuel guage that read 1/4 1/2 and 3/4. after around 1960 they just read e 1/2 and f. you can also tell by the cab mount crossmenber. the older ones 53 to around late 58 had the two holes on top of each other for air lines to pass thru. after that they changed them to the middle hole with spots to mount air line clamps to. one other thing is the bumper brackets were changed around same time. earlier ones had a short piece of pipe for a spacer for the big tow hook boltm later ones Mack had a piece of angle iron welded in for a spacer. one other thing was any b model before late 1959 would have glass fuses in the glovebox and later ones had circuit breakers. of course a lot of this could be changed over the years, just a few things ive notived. ppg/ditzler code for Mack green is 40496 last i checked. has been that since the 70's or 80's. it may end up with one more letter or number on the end depending on what brand paint you cross reference it to, Matt

anyone have a source for 4'' exaust pipe? im lookin to put a straight pipe on an r model and would like to find a 4'' straight pipe with a slash cut on top roughly 80'' long? seems as long as i can find is just a top piece for a stack about 36'' with a slash cut. everyone has bullhorns but cant seem to find a slash cut. thanks, Matt

as long as it is a TRQ77 series and not a TRQ72 series it will bolt right in. might even be the same shifting levers. cannot remember if the auxiliary is the same length under the bolt pod from duplex to quad. i know the smaller TRD77 9 speeds had a different auxiliary shifting lever. should be a direct bolt in, just have the shorten the driveshaft. also some 18 and 20 speed quadboxes in the b models had an extra support that bolted to the back gas tank bracket bolts and a cradle that went under and bolted the the flange between the auxiliary and main boxes. some also had a leaf spring that bolted to the center to support the back of the bigger transmission. all depends on the year. they did away with the leaf spring and used the cradle in the early 60's. , Matt

we had four brand new R400's in 1965. three were 402's with ten speed mudsticks and one was a 413 Chrysler industrial with an 18 speed double over small quadbox behind it. ill have to dig but i know i have the serial numbers to a few of them somewhere. Matt

i dont know, theres just something about a Superdog with floaters on the front and the angled bumper that looks badass. not that i have a Superdog(we all can dream) but was there a special order deal for the angled bumper on a Superdog? jw thanks, Matt

friend of mine here in upstate ny has a 51 A20 someone put on a 90's dodge dually frame and painted it hotrod black with pinstipes. looks badass and he uses and drives it. probably a lot more than he would if it had the original underpowered flathead and obsolete axles in it that you cannot get brake parts for.
