does anyone happen to know what issue of Double Clutch the article on Sears Oil in Rome,NY was in? been lookin for the issue for some time now. im sure i have it just dont know what to look for. thanks,Matt

does anyone know where i can get a chrome extension tube for the air cleaner on my B61? my air cleaner has the ''top hat'' style bonnet instead of the round ''bowl'' style that Barry sells. I like the looks of the tophate syle better but when you open the door with the vent window open, the window hits the air cleaner top. id like to put an extension on it but cannot find one. Tidewater mack use to sell them years ago but havent seen one lately and Barry doesnt have one in the B model store. thanks, matt

that rectangle plate you are referring to is a Radio delete plate that was in all b models from 53-55. also the choke, throttle and windshield wiper knobs were higher on the dash from 53-55. that is also when that type of front wheel brake control valve was used under the dash with the knob. after 55 Mack got rid of the radio delete option and moved the ash tray and choke throttle down on the dash and also started using the flipper style levers for front wheel brakes and truck tractor protection valves. the reason no one has seen them is that there arent many 53-55 b models left anymore.

most of the en401's and en402's had the option of an oil cooler. only main difference was 2 more added head bolts on the en402's on the outside left corners, front and back. as someone else said, barely enough power to drive a truck around empty let alone loaded, and if you got 80,000 miles out of one, you were doing good. ~Matt -
pulled the Sears tractor (65 B61LT) we bought at the auction in the garage to get it running and founf the transmission was a TRDL722 10 speed direct. was just figuring this was a TRDL72 Transmission as the truck is a B61LT but dont know what the second 2 is for. Does this transmission have a deep low?

you could get a 2 speed rear in a B model. most of them were in B20 and B30's and had juice breaks and a Timkin rear end housing. We had a B30 that had a 2 speed rear in a standard Mack housing that had the Mack script also. Have also seen a few B42's with a 2 speed rears. Somtimes i think they just grabbed whatever parts were handy on the assembly line and put them together. Everytime i think i know it all about B models, Mack stumps me.... ~Matt

Farmall or International Red is a lot darker than Mack Red. i painted my B model International red just because i wanted a deeper red with no orange in it. ~Matt

Most EN401's ive seen were the blue-gray Mack color, same as the 673's. Some of the early ones had a black oil pan and timing cover. Most of the transmissions in the late 50's into the 60's were the same blue-gray color. and most of the transmissions in the early 50's were black also. Hope this makes it confusing enough for you, Mack never usually made anything cut and dry. ~Matt

Well i dont know about the rest of you but i get tired of the ''someone buy it before i scrap it'' bull*&%#. As we've all seen prerfectly good sheetmetal and trucks not just Macks being scraped over the past few years just because it doesnt sell or because someone doesnt wanna wait the time to sell it. I seen a whole junkyard here in upstate ny go to albany 2 years ago with some rare b models and other trucks in it. Only problem was the guy wouldnt sell you anything, he was waiting for the long dollar. well he got ripped cuz he sold everything off to this buig scrapper for like $80 a ton then the following year the scrap prices went up. not only that up here they might say its worth 1500 for scrap but you end up getting about half that when they take their share out of it.As for the rest of you, id love to have that truck or some of the sheetmetal here at my house cause everything up here if it isnt junk, it will be in the winter if you run it with the liquid battery acid New York State Dot seems to feel the need to put on the road so they are bare, always. Thats my rant for today, dont scrap it, hang onto it or part it out. youd prolly make more on parts anyways, then scrap the junk parts. ~Matt -

i believe all B models had the frosted glass marker lights. They were even carried over into the early R models and were put in the headlite panels. I always thought the plastic amber and white ones were replacements. could be wrong tho, i have seen some red lights also. you never know with Mack, seems they liked to use up some parts every now and a again also. once you think you have them figured out, you find out something you didnt know. Also the same for shutters, ive seen some late 50's B models with the smooth slat shutters and no bracket in the bottom to bolt the shell to. the older b models that hadthe bolt together headlite panels and radiator shell. After 50 years, you never know if it was built that way with left over parts or someone changed it along the way. Matt -
We have a B613T that was repowered with a 413 and a 5 and a 3 speed aux tranny. truck came from Tar Asphalt corp, Utica,NY and New Brunswick Nj. think they bought the truck wrecked and trucked it to Utica and put the Chrysler in it. they also built a sister truck with the same power but i think it got scraped. We have the 413 chrysler , 5 and 3 speed auxilary if interested. this engine is brand new with less than 200 miles on it. driver blew the ranny out of it and they brought it back, fixed the tranny and parked it. This engine was a factory option from Mack to repower a B42 to get rid of the tired 401 continental. Matt

Tried buying a B-50P from a scrapyard in Ny a few years back. Truck had sat for about 25 years but was solid, long wheelbase with a winch and dumping flatbed, all original. had all aluminum compenents like air tank, steering column spring hangers and everything, was very restorable. Guys father ran the scrap yard and died. and the kid scraped everything. Had a big company come in and the crushed this poor B50 down to the frame with a trackhoe, loaded all on trucks and headed to Albany with them. Guy scrapped about 8 B models, various R models, a few L models and some heavy rare 4x4 50's ford and plow trucks. His prices were outragious but the scrappers ended up giving him $40 a ton for everything. he thought he was king, joke was on him last year when scrap prices went through the roof. I did mandage to save some trinkets and a good B61 Lt drivetrain. cant save em all and cant ecven being to try when the junkyard people think their stuff is gold, or are just plain dumb. Btw, i did hear many people have stopped at his yard lookin for old Mack parts over the past year or so since. go figure ~Matt

recently purchased a B61LT from the Sears Oil auction this past month in Rome, Ny. Was wondering if anyone has any pictures of the Sears Oil B-Models. The truck # we have is A-12 which i believe was out of the Albany Ny Sears terminal.There seems to be pictures of the Sears Brockways out there but none of the B models. Would also be interested in purchasing the Double clutch that had the aritcle on Sears oil in it. Also would like info or pictures of the Schwerman B-models that were ordered with Roadrangers in them, thank, Matt

if your up for the task, gut both boxes, use the main off the duplex with the back off the triplex and put it back together. when i cleaned 45yrs of grime off my duplex i found someone exploded it at one time and brazed the piece back in. i didnt like it so i gutted a quadbox that was junk anyways and used just the case from the quad and the back half from the duplex with all the duplex main internals, Matt

looking for a water pump for an En401 or 402 Mack gas engine. would consider a really good used one that doesnt leak. would really like a NOS or possibly a rebuild kit? i have several water pumps but none that dont leak and most have bad shafts. I know SOMEWHERE there is one of these on a shelf somewhere haha. thanks, Matt

we run lead additive in our B-42, En402, seems to make it run and perform a lot better. pretty good and make the exhaust a little rich to, helps keep the tailgators off your back end to.. , Matt -
just finishing up a B-613T that someone repowered with a 413 chrysler back in the 70's. Took the motor and tranny out and turned it into a diesel again. Still have the Chrysler if anyone is interested. its brand new with only about 100 miles on it, truck was never ran after the repower. Will try to see if i have any pics of the truck with the motor still in it.

i guess we werent the only ones dissappointed with the gift shop staff. Everyone i was in line with was bitching and complaining and i stood in line for around 10 minutes only to have the girl walk away and help the other 'idiot' running the other register. Oh well, did get to see the nice orange graninte all wheel drive and the rasbery red titan which was sweet right down to the dog paw floormat. was a little dissapointed with the short tour and look forward to giving the boy scouts a few bucks for a quick snack at the end which wasnt there this year.

We showed up friday late, bout 3ish and looked around through the swapmeet, glad we did. saturday we left the hotel inthe pouring rain about 8:30 and showed up at the park to a total muddy mess.Most of the venders were packin up around noon and some of the trucks were leavin as early as 9:30 but still was a good turn out. Got to see a nice old Mack R600 wrecker at work pullin Moxley's stuck Superdog out of the mud. Looked like a lot of the trucks were pulling out early while they still could. We left about 2:30ish and headed back to Ny after a quick stop at the Macungie Pub for lunch and a quick brew.

B Model Interior Color

I've seen ,worked on and painted a lot of B-Models over the years and its seems to me that most of the ones built before 1960 or so we about the same color, green metalic. Around 1960 or so some of them were really more metalic than other and seemed to lose some of the green tint, more grayish green. Definately around 1962ish most b-models i have seen lost the metalic all together and were just a shade of light green. Even one 1964 that i have seems to have been more metalic originally but appears that Mack repainted the inside of the cab because of a blemish or something as it is factory paint over factory paint and the new color is much darker and greener than original. Like everyone else has said it is hard to pick out the 'right' color as they were built over so many years and also the color and metalic has a lot to do with the air pressure that was used, same with new paints, you can use a different air pressure even a few poounds and get a totally different color or one with more metalic than another using the same paint code, Matt -

the R model Macks had a totally different color inside than the B models. the R models were more of a 'minty' green color , no metalic at all. ive never even seen 2 b models with the same color inside, they are all a shade off i think, guess it depended on who was painting that day, how much air and how much the paint was mixed. -
