  1. beige interior ended in the early 80's I think then in went to black or the silver. I thought the western r700 ended with the superdog or they overlapped for a few years and the eastern one ended in the early 80's as well
  2. never heard of a 53. most older style 44 and 38 had the cone hub cap which means it had a''full foating'' axle shaft. (the axle floated between the hub cap and the hogs head) back in the day 38'swere indestructible. most noticeable difference between 38 and 44 housings is the 44's have a flat ''web' welded on the butt welded flange between the top and bottom half for added strength.
  3. same here. progressing a lot faster than my 15 projects I seem to have going ALL at once
  4. yup, can see the hood hinges. also doesn't appear to have a Mack front axle. doesn't have the U shaped dip in the middle
  5. I think they are the same part number as the steel set but probably an extre number or a or b or something on the end. I assume this is a single axle?
  6. something tells me that truck is still around
  7. I don't think the outside to outside spring measurement matters. more center pin to center pin. you could always put spacer plates under the u bolts on the side of the springs. most light b421's I have seen had 1/2 narrower spring packs than most B models and had 1/4 spacer plates on each side of the spring pack to take up the gap between the U bolts
  8. shouldnt be a problem but as we all know you never know whats lurking til you dive in. some studs need the surrounding cast to be heated a bit before they can be threaded out, others are held in with a cotter pin. if you do need to heat the spoke, only heat a little, put a stud extractor or small pipe wrench on and turn it to loosen. don't turn it all the way out while the spoke is hot as you can easily tear the threads out. I usually heat it, break it free, then let it cool and soak it with blaster and thread it out.
  9. those clips were replaced or superceeded by Mack also. they started using a washer and clip all in on with a tab that went over the stud
  10. Mack usually had different U bolt spacing. I know Matt Pfahl put I think a superdog front axle in his B and had to redrill the holes as they were half a hole off or something.
  11. yea, price tag hurts my ass just lookin at it....
  12. don't have facebook but the wife does and I want one!!
  13. what he said. Jakes were less common on 237's and Dynatards were about useless except for shifting gears
  14. most all Macks with 20 and 22 inch wheels back in the day had 3 5/8 spacers. if the wedges are loose, you probably need new spacers. everyone always screwed them up with 4'' to run say 11 20's instead of 10 20's or just didn't know what they were doing. the spacers get mushed down after years and years of tire changes. well worth the investment to buy two new ones, THEN if you have issues with the wedges go from there
  15. I replaced my spider with modern ones off an 80's U model. direct bolt on and you get rid of the pain in the ass felts and pins and can use a modern buy it anywhere brake shoe.
  16. I'm glad you put the ding ding back on. saw it in the video when the truck was for sale. you can grind a little off the wedges to get them tighter .
  17. I think the garage is still there. think the old man died, not sure if anyone still runs the garage. we bought the red wrecker from Dan Huden who runs the sawmill and snowmobile parts place on rt 12 in Barneveld. I think he bought both trucks from the estate.
  18. was driving a F350 one day in the snow, had it in 4 wheel but wheels not locked in,. anyways got stuck, jump out to lock in the hubs, but never put truck in park, so here I go to lock the hubs in and poof here goes me chasing truck across the field!!!!
  19. big gap between the shell and headlight panel? I have ran into that. usually takes loosening and adjusting. have seen them so tight you had to fight to get the shell on to.
  20. I think that water tanker was done around 1992 or 1994? I remember it being at Macungie the 1st year it was done but cant remember the year
  21. looks like a mix match of parts. usually Mack used the brackets welded to the housing for the X trucks or dump trucks to keep the cans up high and out of the way for rocks. I have one of these housings layin around. they used the big offset slack adjusters and a bushing that was bolted to the bolted on can bracket holes in your picture.
  22. my 711 had been converted to spin on, cant remember where they ran the lines tho. have to take a pic
  23. about a 60 or 61 .those were the only years Mack used those Erie style front hubs and they only used them on the B42's with 505 front axle. never understood why
  24. would love to have the tanker. I think the decimal point in in the wrong spot on the truck or someone mistyped a 1 in front of 2500
